I am absolutely disgusted with the behavior of the lawyer yelling and almost growling while questioning Anna (Valerie Bertinelli) I'm also disgusted with the behavior of the family lying and slandering just to protect one of their own family members and friends; who were 100% guilty. However overall, this was a phenomenal movie. 👍👍👍👍👍 👌👌👌👌👌

I’m glad her husband did the right thing in the end. They were both put in a very difficult situation by the brother. He didn’t just traumatize the poor girl they raped but he also traumatized his brother and sister in law. I’m glad they both ended up telling the truth.

When Kevin asked his wife, why she felt she had to testify, her reply should have been, "what would you do if it was me on that pool table?" That would have meant an early end to the movie. In the end, Kevin confronts his toxic family & sticks up for his wife. He waited until the bitter end to speak up for his wife; which shows you how strong the "family ties, that bind & gag us", (EB book title), really are!

It’s truly sad because this is based off of a true story, the woman was going to the bar for a drink so that she could have a break from her kids. She was raped and the small town in Pennsylvania blamed her for it. Shortly afterwards the guys who raped her got a few years in prison but she sadly died in a car accident a few years later. Netflix did a documentary about it.

It happens! If one is silent...you have to have courage and conviction to speak out against the worst of the worst offense, however, if you bring it out into the open, you'll be shunned and persecuted by family members and others with a vested interest in the victim and the other side, who want you just to shut up and keep those wicked things hush hush so no-one gets into trouble with the law. Yucky 😥😥😥😥 Unfortunately, it gives the Offender/Offenders the freedom / license to act it out again. Keep in mind, He'll lie to save himself from consequences of his actions. Don't be Silent, or a Coward, Kia Kaha ! Be Strong! speak out for all parties concerned, first of all the innocent life's, then for the offender/s who have a conscience. Thanks for airing this upsetting yet pertinent episode of rape, exposing those who watched it yet did nothing to assist the lady in trouble and distress, except for one very brave Lady, who, against her husband's wishes came forward publically into the glare of the tabloid media, and was hammered by the opposing Lawyers within the Justice System, and a support person, pulling her character to pieces, shame on them. Deus abençoe, there is still hope for the perpetrator/s if the wrongdoing is acknowledged first to God, ( who sees everything) then to the respective authorities, he/they will be set free. That's what the majority of the sexual abuse victims actually have to deal with, unfortunately: not only the traumatizing act itself and the humiliation by the triumphant agressor - but also the cowardice, ignorance and even reality shifts displayed by the social environment (not believing/helping the victim, culpalizing the victim, excusing/protecting the agressor etc.). It's a sick world.

After watching Law and Order- SVU for so many years, I couldn't believe so many people witnessed the rape, couldn't stop it, tried to ignore it and blamed the victim. Every time someone said something like why was she in there, it was over already, etc., I thought if you had not raped her you wouldn't be in trouble. I was very proud of Mr. Dunn telling the truth at the end. They didn't want to believe another woman but when his own brother told the truth, no one could dispute it. Also it showed how much he loved Anna. Even after her old flame seduced her with his lies, her husband could see clearly that she was tricked.

She then, proceeded to watch me getting r*ped in this guy's car, as if I asked for all of it and she was just there to support me! I was threatened not to talk to cops or else..mind you, this was the 90s ,post soviet union ,when there were many outlaws, creating their own laws(mafia and such) and his daddy was a part of it, who knew every cop, judge ,lawyer in town...I was followed, afterwards, for awhile and threatened continuesly...I was terrified for my grandparents, as they were all I had! So I kept quiet and just suppressed it all .. The guy, realized what he's done, several weeks later and attempted to seek validation for his bad behavior through trying to explain to me why he did what he did, calling it "my apology"(I rejected him and thats why he r*ped me) lmfaoooo several months later, he was killed in a car accident 😏 this is what karma is all about, friends! The names of people who attend AA meetings are not recorded. What they say at a meeting is not recorded. That's why it it is called AA. So producing a transcript what the girl of what the girl said at a meeting is absurd.

Is it a version of The Accused with Jodie Foster? The woman real life was attacked in a bar. The men found guilty and she died in a crash a few years after. They only got a few years. Disgusting. Grapists should hang high. They're shameless and evil. That woman must have been disgusted of her husband. How could she be near him after? He's potentially one too just like his brother

She played the part of a woman whose conscience ate away at her after she did nothing and a young woman committed suicide because of it. Not what I would call courageous. Just severely guilt ridden. But unfortunately, very few people are courageous these days, and even fewer do the right thing. Absolutely anybody could call the police anonymously if they're concerned with being inconvenienced. Very few will even do that.

The defense lawyer was so sleazy, the way he kept touching women, smiling inappropriately, battering the witness, etc. It's just ridiculous to assume that consent is possible when someone is drunk, sleeping, sedated, etc. As a matter of fact, someone being out of their right mind equals greater vulnerability and likelihood of nonconsensual abuse, manipulation, and/or assault.

The man who played as the husband of the witness is the most loving, kindest and supportive husband. Despite what his wife did (make love with other man), he still supported her and came back to her. What judge allows an attorney to badger a witness like that?
@jivanvasant
@jivanvasant Жыл бұрын
Yes, the defense counsel definitely badgered the woman with his loud voice and repetitive questions. But every presiding judge in a court trial has a very wide discretion in sustaining or denying any objection made to such badgering. This judge seemed biased. Badgering the witness is an objection that counsel can make during a cross-examination of a witness where opposing counsel becomes hostile or asks argumentative questions. If an attorney begins repeatedly asking a witness about the same thing, asks many rudely phrased questions, becomes very loud, or other uses other unnecessary, distracting tactics, the opposing counsel will object, hoping the judge will find the tactics to be disruptive or in-conducive to eliciting facts from the witness.

This is why women should carry guns… I don’t understand why nobody helped her while she was screaming being raped by a group of men.. what a bunch of cowards.. …….it can not be acceptable for women to go through this.. next time arm yourself so you don’t get attacked.. even the bystanders could have been carrying something for defense.. they could have protected that lady.. I guarantee the rapists would have taken off running.. I’ve been in that woman’s shoes more than I like to talk about, so if I heard that happening to another woman, I guarantee I would run in and try to stop it……but it’s infuriating that people just stood still and did nothing while listening to her scream….

What happened to her was beyond a nightmare. That being said, when should she have showed her gun? After she walked into the bar, after a man sat next to her, when should someone get trigger happy? It is frustrating, but everyone carrying guns should not be the answer. The bar tender should have thrown them all out and called the cops immediately. What good happens in bars?

This was the toughest, rawest, and most bothersome movie I recall ever seeing. I ask myself if I could be like Valerie's character and tell what I witnessed. Right now I can only answer "I don't know." There is the old adage "The truth shall set us free." Yet, truth can also be burdensome, painful to carry, perplexing and disturbing. The family in this example struggled to keep their kin accused of the crime safe, even if they perjured themselves, hurt other peoples' reputations, or even at the cost of losing their souls. The movie presents many moral, ethical and substantive issues to ponder.

Good grief, this is the most simple situation in the world. You aren't sure what you would do??? This isn't some complex grey area of a moral dilema. They should have called the cops IMMEDIATELY. They should have hit the guys with drinks/a pan or whatever to stop them and been screaming at them to stop. If scared....call cops anonomously. I mean it is absurd and gross that they didn't do the OBVIOUS right thing immediately. Grow soke courage. You shouldn't have to think twice about this. If you do waver, you already need to rethink your whole life and learn basic morality. 😢
