Hi there mate, I’m the driver of gassa, unfortunately my skier luke Wentworth was the guy who lost his life. I was wondering if you happened to have any footage of the boat at all over the weekend.

Very sorry for your loss from the USA. Ski racing is a great sport, unfortunately not without danger. I know it is a tired cliche but that doesn't mean it isn't true to say he died doing something he loved. Gone much too soon. RIP Luke

Hey Nathan. I had you as a friend on Facebook before I deleted my account. I saw the sacrifices you made as a small team on a tight budget and I am gutted to read that you have had to pass this kind of a cross road. I am so sorry this happened to you. You are a gentleman and I hope that you don't stop getting after it. Cheers. Luke from South Africa.

You want to slow the speeds down?' It's hands out front racing. Put the outcome of the race in the hands of the athlete instead of the engine builder. Reduce costs of racing because you won't need 2200 hp anymore. Just my 2 cents. Very very sorry to learn of the passing of another ski racer. It is just so sad and tragic. Old Ski racer in the USA
@pezomatic1

At this point I'm not sure slowing them down would help either, they seem reasnobly comfortable at these speeds, but I'm also just leaning about this sport now and it's intricacies

@pezomatic1 I raced here in the states back in the 70s. Speeds were maybe around 100mph give or take but tapered off as the race progressed. Hands out front. The winners were usually the skier in the best physical condition and not necessarily the guy with the fastest boat. It was still dangerous but not as dangerous as today with racing speeds in the 200 kilometers per hour range. If my math is correct that is around 120 to 125 mph. I have seen videos from this race where the GPS speedometer was touching 135mph. Major racing organizations of all sorts have taken steps in the past to slow speeds to make racing safer but I hate the idea of putting speed limiters on boats. To me, that is not racing. Hands out front racing, the speeds will come down but racers will still be doing all they can to go as fast as they can. One other thing also, we almost never got the chance to race on water as smooth as that river.
@pezomatic1
@pezomatic1 4 ай бұрын
While I agree it could always be safer, 100mph is easily fast enough to get hurt, and hands out front if the athlete is more tired won't they be more prone to making mistakes? Just my 2c I appreciate your views and reguardless more safety in the sport is a good thing
@jerrycoggin9434
@jerrycoggin9434 4 ай бұрын
@pezomatic1 yes, more prone to mistakes so they must slow down. Conditioning is key, which also helps when crashing. 100 mph still fast enough to get hurt for sure, but injuries became more severe when racers started wrapping up (Ausie style). Hands out front racing to me just makes more sense but I never raced any other way.. I know getting pulled from the waist makes it easier to go fast(once you get accustomed to it) but I really feel it HOF is safer and maybe more exciting. Probably never happen.

The owner / driver of the boat superman is a tosser. Doesn't know his stuff. If he believes his boat run so fairly easy at 260 km per hour is a joke and 2,200 hp is also a joke. Fastest ever actual race boat in Australia has reached 151 mph
@pezomatic1
@pezomatic1 4 ай бұрын
Darren was actually super knowledgeable, both about his boat and the sport. They capped the boat speeds at 120mph during race conditions to help improve safety in the sport. Also why is 2,200hp a joke? A big block car can do that and roll around the streets, why can't a boat with unlimited cooling?
