There are a few industries you'll actually want near residental. Besides food, the more luxurious homes will demand pottery directly from the folk kiln. Additionally, there is no penalty to having forges, textile, and jade near houses.

the issue was that you assinged them to cut wood outside of a range they can reach (the cant pass the water). if you cancel that all should be good. they stand arround like dat because they search for a path, which obviously doesnt exist on an island

Yeah I am going to install it right now. But holy smokes your roads makes my eyes bleed. And you are keeping the plebs way to close to the nobility. They should not be allowed to stink up the area near them.
