One of the really big, persistent problems with American roots music is the different talent levels between the musicians and the promoters. The musicians deliver the goods time and again. The people off stage who are trying to profit are, not always, but often, second rate. They don't know who is good and who is not, who needs help and who doesn't. All they know is that if you can find what people like then you can make money off it. They tend to be very short-sighted, and capable only of attempting to meet simplistic financial goals.
