Angels Landing is a crazy trail in Zion National Park that features a steep chains section with large drop-offs on both sides. The trail is only 4.5 miles round trip but the last half mile is along the spine of a rock ledge and should not be undertaken without preparation. This video provides an introduction to this trail and what you will see if you go on it. Let me know what questions you have in the comments.

I did the climb several years ago. Believe it or not, there was an older couple - he was 81 and she was 73 - at the summit. They were there for their anniversary and they shared with the group while at the summit that every year for their anniversary they would travel to a destination with some of the tallest high rise buildings in the world. He had been a pilot so they traveled widely. Each anniversary they would go to the roof tops of the buildings and dance. Obviously there was no music on the top of Angel's Landing, so me and another guy (complete stranger) decided we would sing 'Let Me Call You Sweetheart' so the couple could embrace for one more sky-high dance. We didn't know all the words, but we did the best we could and the older couple held one another tightly and danced away. It was really one of those moments that make you feel so human, and so alive.

I was raised in a nearby town, St. George, and now live in Hurricane. I have spent my how life exploring and enjoying Zions. However, I've never gone past Scouts Landing due to my fear of heights. Thank you for taking me to the top as I've always wanted to go! It is breathtakingly beautiful! I feel like I finally got to hike it through you!

I needed a trip to get away from the city and we will be leaving Utah in a few hours. Zion is so majestic and beautiful and it just saddens me that I'm leaving this afternoon. Anyway, I'm staying in La Verkin and I loved the scenic drive. See you next time, Utah!

I last hiked Angel's Landing in 2012. I hate heights (especially when there is a 1200 drop six feet away), but once I am able to put the fear in the back of my mind, I can concentrate on carefully moving forward. Incredible views.

I did this hike back in 2016, in August. We went to Zion without knowing anything about it, and we had only one day to spend there. We chose Angels Landing based on the lenght, because the promised 4-5 hours was a good fit in our time schedule. We started 6 of us, but 4 of us stopped at the lookout. Me and my buddy went on the top. It was one of the best decision that I ever made in my life. For me Angel's Landing deff triumphed Horseshoe, grand canyon or any other beautiful hike.

My experience was similar. Wasn't really familiar with Zion at all. Thus I didn't come prepared to do the narrows. I did do Angels landing. It was scary going up, because I was a little worried about getting back down those narrow slippery paths, but it was actually a breeze coming down as it turned out.. I think it only took 45 min to descend. That was back in 2007 ish. I considered turning around at the Lookout, but glad I pushed on. It was a highlight of my trip.

Great video. I did this hike all the way to the top with my three sons in Oct 2021 and again in March 2022. It was fantastic. Definitely was a bucket list must do. The hike looks much more scary than it was. The chains helped provide a sense of security. The view from the very top is breath taking.

It's actually not that bad. The spine is wide enough for 1 person to go through even without holding the chains. The chain lengths are fixed, people stop from point to point to let people pass.

I love this video. You did such a great job of capturing the hike and the amazing scenery. I went several years ago with my brother, sis-in-law and then 11 year old nephew. Sis-in-law and I waited at Scout Overlook, while brother and nephew continued up. I tried to work up the courage to go to the top, but just got a few feet along the chains and turned around. We got there early, so not too many people, but I realized that by the time we were coming back down, crowds would probably be headed up, and I'd have to share that narrow trail with passing hikers. That was all it took for me to make the decision stop. As you mention, Scout Overlook is amazing on it's own, with spectacular views, and totally worth the hike, even if you don't plan to go all the way to Angels Landing.

Thankful to say I had the opportunity to complete this trail last summer. It is dangerous forsure, but with common sense and solid physical health it is completely safe. Not for those with a fear of heights or out of shape. Zion park instituted a permit system this year for hikers on this trail. Trail is not as scary as wide angle cameras on KZfaq make it seem.

Welcome to Utah. I live here!! I hiked Angel's Landing many years ago. We also did the West Rim trail on another trip. I highly recommend it to you and Pops. It's a one way hike where we paid somebody to pick us up at the campground and drive us all the way to the start of the trail (1 hr drive). It was such a stunning hike and you get views that you would never get normally in Zion. Thanks for giving Utah a nod. We have so many amazing trails, parks here. (FYI: Bryce is a favorite.. in the winter. They have an annual Pres Weekend family festival. Come back). Cheers

There's a reason this looks so scary - because it is. I did in back in the mid 90's and you didn't have to have a permit. I'm going in June and now you need a permit which is a bummer, but the National parks have just gotten so crowded they have to do this. EDIT: Went back last week and won the lottery! It was just as scary the 2nd time. The part you cover with the selfie stick @ the 8:08 mark is definitely the most terrifying. I didn't think the vertical section was as bad. There isn't anything too technical about the trail, but it is very mentally challenging.

I have done this trail multiple times, including running it first thing in the morning. I have a fear of heights but had no problem doing this hike at 59 years old; however, my wife turned around after the first 5 minutes. I was surprised at how few hikers were going up. I wore bike gloves and they worked GREAT. My Suunto watch had trouble triangulating in the canyon and my end graph was way off for mileage and elevation. Also, we both really enjoyed the Observation Point hike from the East Mesa Trail. Thanks!

My sister and I did this hike in the middle 1990s. It was pretty different. There was almost no one else int he park and we parked at the base of the cliff. The trail was longer and no pavement that i recall and the chains were on he other side. Neither of us normally has a fear of heights, but one of us froze up and the way up and the other on the way down. What broke me out of my panic attack was a Dad and his 12 year old son who just sort of skipped around us as I clung to the chain for dear life unable to move for a few minutes. I cannot imagine how you would do this holding a camera the whole way. Not a chance I would do that. Next go do the Subway trail top down. It is a more exciting trail, not as scary but harder.
