I’m completely sold. I can’t believe it. I’ve heard a lot of bad things about these units but I’m convinced that they probably didn’t read the instructions on how to use it. Great video! You did a great presentation. Thanks!

As soon as you said 'I've been draining my battery for 2 1/2 hours' I 'bout near fell off my chair laughing because I knew exactly where you were going. I know this is a couple years old but I just got one of the current ones and I've been showing it to everyone and telling them it will start a car but I have no way to prove it. Now I can just show them this video...Thanks!

Seriously, I bought for half of the price of the NOCO GB30 a Stanley unit. Took it from Walmart directly to a stuck car of mine (I know that I should have charged the Stanley first, but I rolled the dice & gave it a go without a fresh recharge). Here's the real impressive part; my vehicle is a 1982 Mercedes Benz 5 cylinder diesel. Glow plugs are required to begin the 'start' process (Lots of battery power needed), then comes the burden of turning over a high 21:1 compression ratio diesel engine. Obviously both of those steps demand a powerful battery in order to complete the 'start' process, but this Stanley 'Simple Start' right off the shelf (and to my amazement) started the Benz ! Needless to say I recharged the Stanley as soon as I got home because this $45 unit is definitely a keeper...

I also bought the Stanley unit from Walmart on Sale for $25 and it started a dead battery in my 1997 ford E-150 van with a 4.6L in few minutes also without charging it first. I am simply amazed at this little thing, it's worth every single penny.

I bought even a smaller unit called "Stanley Simple start Lithium-Ion jump starter" for $30 on sale from $60 at Walmart and it works every time. I have a 1997 ford E-150 van with a 4.6L and i drained my battery by leaving the lights on overnight i came out in the morning battery was completely dead i plugged in the Stanley jump starter in the cigarette lighter...yes you hear that correctly, you can plug it in to the cigarette lighter or directly to battery and after about 5 minutes to 8 minutes my van started right up. I have used it about 15 times already on my car my girlfriends car and friends cars and it works every time.When you charge it, it holds power for about 12 months and you can jump start a battery about 3 to 5 times out of one charge. I am simply amazed at this little thing. If you go look at reviews every single person is happy with it i have not read a single review where someone said it didn't start their car. The thing is simply amazing.

Only one invention I could think of that's better than this........"Sliced Bread.!" Been searching the net for real world videos on this product but mostly found Manufacturer videos. Amazon has it @ $130.00. I had an old-school jumper pack that lasted several years through all kinds of weather and never failed to jump start a vehicle. I paid about the same so I can't help but wonder a bit about this little jumper performing the same. Thanks for the info.

I was aware of those new device, however, I believe a good set jumper cables is more reliable and durable. I planned to invest $200 or less to make a good set by myself by using #0 or #1 AWG welding cable from Flex-A-Prene or CarolPrene plus pure copper heavy duty mechanic jaws like the commercial grade 14-300 Goodall Booster Cables 1000 Amp Full Power Jaw Clamps 20-foot 1/0 Gauge which was selling for $336.95, plus shipping and tax.

If your battery fails to start your car, then either your battery is very close to needing a replacement OR your alternator is f**ked...... If you pay attention it's easy to spot when a battery is nearing it's end of life. Replace the battery or fix your car before it becomes a problem, don't just keep jumping it. Your not saving money by continuously jumping your dead battery, your just delaying the inevitable and exposing yourself to the possibility of winding up stranded 200 miles from home in the middle of nowhere.

Don't throw your jumper cables away! I have one of those booster-battery/capacitor type starters ( 200/400 peak ampere ) and it does work as long as you remember to keep it charged. I used mine successfully several times on my own cars over a couple years, but then when a damsel in distress needed a jump, I ran over with my little booster-battery only to realize I hadn't charged it in several months and it didn't have enough juice to get her car started. I ran back, got my truck and jumper cables, and for whatever reason her little Toyota took more than ten seconds of cranking to finally start with the jumper cables attached. Point is that if the persons' car is in excellent condition except that the battery is dead, then fine, a fully charged little booster-battery will work, but if the sick car needs a little more than a quick jolt to get it started you are going to need the continuous supply of a strong battery and quality jumper cables to get it started. I believe that the trick with the small booster-battery jumpers is that they are half battery and half capacitor bank which can provide a lot of power for a short time, but capacitors will not hold their charge reliably over time, so they have to be recharged more often. My booster-battery claims to have 7 seconds max of starting time with most motors, but warns it is not for large diesel motors. I think it is safest to have both: cables and a booster-battery. If your car is stranded and you are isolated, then ( if charged ) the booster-batteries are a life saver, but if you are trying to start your car or someone else's that is being a bit stubborn, you are going to need two cars and jumper cables to get the job done!

11.5-12 volt's is NOT "dead as a door nail" to be fair. It might also be fair to state that the PCM in that vehicle automatically kills the headlights if the battery goes below 12 volt's. I could be wrong on that last statement but I highly doubt it.These products may boost a low amp draw 4 cylinder car with a low battery, but a vehicle with a truly dead battery, I would have to see to believe.The 400 amp claim is horribly false.

Oh if you do buy jumper cables make sure you have a good gauge of wire on those cables. The smaller the number the better2/4/6 no larger. The number two is best. Gauge is very important when it comes to jumper cables. Also make sure you have a good clamp nothing flimsy. 😁

I like this guys videos !! Most modern cars today turn lights and all electrical accessories OFF automatically after exiting the vehicle in a pre-determined amount of time, so a 2 1/2 hour drain on an automobile battery is a practically inconceivable OR a poor scenario to put this device to the test ! With that said, automobile batteries do die AND the most plausible scenario of electrical depletion on car batteries is COLD WEATHER !! I would like to see this device operate and work in a -35*C to -50*C environment with the device being left in the glove compartment exposed to these kind of temperatures !! That's the true test for me to consider investing in such a device !! Not Cheap and I can get a CAA (Canadian Automobile Association) membership for this kind of money where they come out to service your vehicle wherever you are ! Nice Video as usual carquestions !!

The biggest problem is keeping these things (Noco Genius Boost, Car Rover, and similar) charged, ready for the rare occasions when a battery dies. No battery (in a booster or whatever) holds a charge forever and, without a charged battery, these things are useless. That's why I'll sick to easier, maintenance free, jumper cables. The exception might be short duration trips where other vehicles might not be around, but, even then, I'd rather carry a larger, more capable, battery booster/starter - or just keep the vehicle battery in top condition so it doesn't need to be jumped.

That's really slick, but the cost is prohibitive. At Harbor Freight, on sale, you can get a portable jumper, that can also be used as a 12v power supply for other things, and keep it in your trunk, pulling out occasionally for charging, for only $40 on sale.

You can completely disconnect the battery from the truck, and put the booster in bypass and start the truck, so you know this thing is powerful, just be sure to have the cables connected correctly because it also overrides the cross connect safety.

I used a GB30 for nearly 3 Years now, and i started a lot of engines with it. Of course, the rating (here 400A for the GB30) is bulls*it, or maybe it means the peak-power for an split second, but it works for small and medium engines (~ 3-4 liters) very well. Even without a working battery in the car. (if you have a dead battery with nearly 0 Volts, you better disconnect it before using a booster - but dont forget to disconnect the booster immediately after the car runs, otherwise the alternator/generator from the engine will make damage to the booster-battery)
@stanleytolle416

Yes this is a better booster, jumper. It's Li technology. Most other boosters will go bad on you because they are lead-acid technology. They will slowly drain out on you in a month or two. Unless they are regularly charged, they will be dead when you need to use them. Worse yet, they will freeze and kill them selves if they get discharged in the winter. Li will be about 70% after two years. Only need to recharge once a year or after a use. May cost more but will be ready to use when you need it. A person may go through three or four other jump-boxs, may not work when needed before problems develop with a Li-ion jump-box. The Li box will be worth it because it will be there when one needs it.

This sure beats those BIG booster packs you got a few years ago, that looks more like a briefcase, and weighs like your toolbox. Can you get one that fits in your wallet? I don't carry a purse! Ha ha ... I'd keep it under the passenger seat and charge it occasionally, along with all the other stuff I have to charge "occasionally"... :( How long does it last if you don't use it? I have never needed to boost my car, so mine just sits in the boot for the winter or on the shelf in the summer...

It's a good idea I just doubt this thing would hold a charge without continuously charging during the winter time. I live in one of the coldest places in Canada and my phone with a lithium battery the same as what's in here goes dead from a full charge after about 8-10 hours in -35C so I doubt this thing would hold a charge for weeks or months in the glove box.

have yet to see video of these things tested on a cold morning with a cold motor (sub zero) which is the most common condition when you get a dead battery. The kind of situation when even putting jumpers on wont start the car right away...you have to wait for the car jumping yours to charge up your battery a bit before your car will start. These jumper boxes use the same type of batteries RC hobby grade cars/trucks use. Given the units size, the most it could have is 3s 11.1v (nominal, 12.4v fully charged) and maybe 10,000mah-12,000mah...though I would bet it is more like 6k-8kmah. That would be enough to run a 540 sized brushless motor in a rc car weighing 5-8 pounds at 50mph for an hour or so.

Yep; these reviewers always seem to be out in the warm weather and do not tell you what the temperature of the engine is or the temperature of the booster. Consumer Reports testing found that some units are able to start a cold engine but almost all have problems if the booster is cold (ex: if you leave booster in cold vehicle).

I have a powerpack I bought on Ebay, and it started my pickup (3.9l Dakota) when it was in the teens and the battery was dead as a doornail. These things fit in your glove box or console, and they save your arse. I was a mechanic for 35 years and I admit I was skeptical until I saw a guy actually use one in a parking lot to start his car with a dead battery. This thing is not much bigger than a 2.5 in hard drive enclosure, and the cables are bigger than the powerpack itself, but it got me out of a pickle a few times already.

Another consideration is your potential to need a "jump." Living in Florida I have never found a "jump" to be helpful. The last four vehicle batteries (on several vehicles) that died were not rechargeable. They also died suddenly without warning, fortunately most were parked at home. My wife had a battery die while driving her Toyota. I was concerned it was a faulty alternator but it was the battery. I guess with extreme cold weather or someone inadvertently draining the battery a jump/boost would be nice.

"Throw away your booster cables" - Absolutely NOT! I don't care how well a portable battery may work, it can fail. If that wasn't the case, every car would come equipped with the never fail battery setup. Yes, some gadgets, on the market today, can be useful. However, IMO, it's always best to have a good backup plan. In this case, a quality set of cables "to jump start a truck", when the gadget fails.

The one thing I would not do is killing a perfectly good battery. The battery life will be cut shorter. All auto batteries have a memory built in to them. So you could have 1/2 life in this case.

No they don't. If you drain a battery too many time they will not charge to full any more. You need to do a little more research on this subject. You will find that I am right.
@charleysturbos7320
@charleysturbos7320 8 жыл бұрын
think it just depends on few things. I've had batteries that were old and ive killed them a bunch of times and they lasted years and years. Then ive had one recently that i killed once and it never came back at all and was very very new. Then i had a battery i tested yesterday for neigbor and it was bad and tripple a also tested it bad. I added epsom salt and some water and it's good to go and worked without even a charge on her honda. I'm going to exchange my crappy battery for hers and put it in my car to see how long epson salt works for.

Oh. Strange then. All the major KZfaqrs have the links to what they just reviewed as well as affiliate links of all sorts along with Patreon accounts, etc. YT seems to promote those accounts even more. YT even calls them on the phone asking them why they are late getting a video uploaded. I have never seen these peoples' videos being removed or any mention of penalization because of links.

that's all fine and good but the real question is... Will it still be able to start you car after it's been sitting in the trunk or glove box for couple years.... all of these portable jumpers will start a car when fully charged. But when you're stranded on the side of the road and have no charging outlet and this thing has been in your trunk for couple years because you simply haven't had a need to use it and forgot all about it. Will it still start a V8 truck.

Same with that booster of yours. I rather keep my car battery well charged than ALWAYS feeling the need of a charged back up booster in the glove box. And 100 or more dollar is far too expensive. Spend it on a new fresh car battery instead and a set of jumper cables.
