Great video. I use a T450 at work. I would highly recommend getting one of these Thinkpads for personal use. I would swap out the storage to a modern SSD and be all set.

I got one of these, it has 12gb of ram I took out the stock shitty 500gb hard drive and replaced it with a 1Tb samsung evo solid state drive... all I can say is it's a fast beast and very happy

Picked up one of these from Craigslist for $125 last year. Added a 4gb stick of ram and an m.2 SSD and it's a nice snappy little beast for school work and steam in home streaming. Just be careful, the screens are very fragile. You will see if you take one apart, there is almost nothing behind the display itself.

Nice video. I still use mine. Bought it in 2014. It was back then a beast, i upgraded a few things in setup at the Lenovo online shop. I have upgraded the 4GB to 8GB Ram, CPU is upgraded to the 1.90GHz one, replaced the HDD for a fully SSD one from samsung. From day one i fell in love with its simplicity on the outside but a beast on the inside for what i use it for. Last week i replaced the keyboard, ordered for about $30 out of china, and thats the only issue ive had with it. And that was mostly my own fault by having too many drinks and food disappear under the keys lol. Lenovo did a very good job on the easy way this laptop can be rapaired by yourself without getting confused or stuck with things that are easily be broken along the way. I love that. They sell every part of it seperately for really low prices at Ali Express and you could build one by yourself from scretch with ease, even when youre a total technical noob. The laptop still runs smooth now in 2018 on Windows 10 for my usage and it will last far into 2019 and i think even 2020 will be reached if i dont mess it up myself. A laptop like this can easily get an extended life by changing from Windows to a linux OS or even Chromium OS. If it would break completely, i think with todays prizes i would either buy another one or build one myself. There arent really many electronic devices that make me love using it i as much as this laptop (except my 20 year old Harman Kardon amp which i love so so much) . I like the dual batteries in it. One in the case on on te board. And if thats not enough, there are official batteries with twice as much power, but i dont know if they are much thicker so if the inner battery can be upgraded too i dont know at this moment. So on the question if its still worth buying it in its 5 year after release, i would say with my setup, and knowing you wont be able to play games much newer the GTA san andreas (lol) i would say yes if the price stays below $300. (mine was almost $1500 new) .

4:00 Battery life on the shorter side of the spectrum? This was lauded as one of the longest-lasting devices produced, and still is today! Could it be that yours does not have the internal 3-cell battery?

I bought a refurbed one with a new battery and a Win10 Pro license for 250€. It had a 500GB SSHD so I bought a SSD for 30€ and installed it. Best laptop I ever had, with the SSD it is fast for my basic university stuff and the battery last 5h+.

I just ordered a refurbished 2014 one on eBay with 8 gb, 500 hd, 2.7 ghz, i7 for $299. I'm hoping it will work well for school and everything else. Waiting for it to arrive on Friday to replace my dying MacBook Pro I can't afford to replace with a new one now.

Im using a 3rd Gen x1 carbon, I decided to buy one of these used and its very awesome. A little thicker BUT you can upgrade the memory to 12GB (4gb onboard by default) so its a single 8GB stick, and a full 2.5" SSD rather than mSata. Also has dual batteries, and optionally an addon 6 cell battery -- I think its definately worth it. The typing is thinkpad style, better than the X1 carbon.

Correction: Im using the T440s which has a FHD screen. If you do not like the touchpad without buttons you can buy one for $30 on amazon.

Is the trackpad click mechanism different from current thinkpad models/normal windows machines? I feel like the current ones do not click down the same way in one vertical motion (more directional clicks like most windows trackpads)

I just purchased one with Core i7 4600OU, dual core @ 2.10GHz, 3M, 240GB SSD - Licensed refurbish with 2 year warranty. I'll let you know how it performs. Some have told me the typing isn't so great, though had no trouble with the one I tried. Any helpful comments appreciated.

Every T440 I have seen (including the one I own) has a really annoying high pitched whine to the fan. Can anybody else confirm this? If mine is just in need of replacement id like to know. The noise is annoying enough I am considering selling the machine and grabbing another T430.

The high pitch noise only occurs with certain fan model numbers. Fun fact the t440 has two different fans in different regions. The first is the M60A1 which was used in first generation T440 and the M60A2 which doesn’t have the whine and was used for the second generation which was any thinkpad sold 3 months after launch in the US.

Frustrating getting info on google on this laptop. Just bought one and looking at upgrade options, yet when I type in "T440" I get "T440s" and "T440p" which isn't the same thing. Paid $175cdn ($133us) for mine, has touchscreen 780p, 8gbs and a 500gb hard drive. Only major issue is it has trouble keeping the wifi signal to my router.

I found one for 200 dollars. Is it a good deal or not? I want it to do everyday activities, like wordprocessing and file editing. I want something solid that i can carry everywhere.

It's pretty good, although it does not do well with video editing/gaming because the one that i have has a Nvidia GT 720M and it's a really bad card. But for working and general usage, it's great.

@@grayon5955 The 200$ model he has seen will most likely be a regular (non s/p) model which doesn't have the option for a dedicated graphics card. You can get t440p models with dedicated graphics, however they will probably cost more than 200$ still. For gaming I wouldn't necessarily go with a Thinkpad anyway.

Asus Asus I bought one for 244$ on a auction . T440s , swap the trackpad 1920x1080p IPS Screen , 8gb of ram .16ssd (useless). 500hdd. Mine came with lots of hardware issues as It was used but in mint condition. To be honest right off the bat I noticed there was something wrong because my l430 boots quicker than this newer model. Overall might just be me with my bad luck . I’ll stay away from Slim/portable versions from now on. I will stick to Performance instead of good looks.
