I always love to see how this movie tends to generate similar enthusiastic reactions in first time viewers. I distinctly remember the day I watched Pulp Fiction in 1996 together with one of my closest friends in a small theater for movie enthusiasts in my city. We were in high school at the time and I went in basically 'blind': I didn't know anything about Pulp Fiction in advance nor had I watched any other Tarantino movie before. At the end we were both flabbergasted and we couldn't stop quoting the script of some of the funniest scenes (which also happen to be some of the most violent, since the movie oozes this unforgettable dark humor). The top notch writing, with brilliant and colorful small talks, the non-linear narration and the surreal situations all converge to make the movie almost impossible to forget.

Mia's cancelled TV show "Fox Force Five" is the base for Quentin Tarantino's movie "Kill Bill", also starring Uma Thurman as the lead actress. While Mia said her speciality was knives, in Kill Bill, Uma's character's speciality is swords.

When this movie came out, a friend of mine and I saw it seven times in the theater. We were obsessed, we actually entered an online contest (something new at the time) by answering random questions. My friend got all the answers right and won a VHS that included all the cut scenes. One of them is when Vincent arrives at Mia's house and before she introduces herself, she starts asking him random questions into the microphone. Yes, you got it, they were the same questions that we answered online in the contest, the answers that my friend gave were the same ones that Vincent gave in that scene, that's why he won the prize.

Yeah I love the vhs tape scene. Sometimes they dont know it only in live tv in the few seconds where they have to cut out mia on the floor overdosing and vince finding her half dead. What many don't know is that It was actually her interrogating him without him knowing it. You can tell how she gets to know him by his answers, from the Archie comics she asks him is he likes Betty or Veronica, cute or sexy, and he chose Betty revealing his type of girl, hence her being giggly and kinda bright on her answers through'out the "date", seducing him, testing his loyalty towards marcellus. Pretty genius to me, she's the same as her husband.

So, I actually went to see this movie at the theatre when it came out, and two funny things happened. First off, when Vincent shot Marvin in the face, EVERYONE in the theatre, including my violence-averse girlfriend, burst out laughing... but only for about three seconds. Then we all looked at each other in shock, thought "WTF are we laughing at?" and shut up, almost simutaneously. It was, as they say, a moment... The next day, I went straight out and bought the soundtrack CD. I came home, put it on the player and dragged my mum in to hear it, saying, "Oh my God you have GOT to listen to this amazing theme tune!" Ten seconds in, she turned around to me and said, "heard it." She then explained that, thirty-two years previously, my uncle had rushed into the house, put a record on the player and dragged her in to listen to it, saying, "Oh my God you have GOT to listen to this amazing tune!" Same tune: Misirlou, by Dick Dale and the Del-Tones, 1962...

What I always found interesting, I have no idea how many times I have watched but it's a lot. But to me the storyline actually begins YEARS before what we're seeing. When little Butch gets the gold watch that is the beginning of the storyline. And the actual end happens when Butch and his girlfriend ride off on the motorcycle. Y'all spoke of Kill Bill. OMG, they are insanely good. As we say here in Texas; Y'all be safe!!

The most common belief about the briefcase is that it contained Marcellus’s soul. That’s why it glows. Apparently the soul can be extracted through the back of the neck, hence the bandaid.
@DerpMuse
@DerpMuse Жыл бұрын
I always thought that as well. But after the 100th viewing you start to question that theory. Like, who is the Devil he made a deal with? I later switched the idea to Marcellus Wallace being the Devil people made deals with, and it is Jules soul contract he gets back in the briefcase, he wants out of the killing job and that's why he is spared (the bullet miracle), which makes him follow through with quitting.

You’ve always been The Hoodie Queen since the beginning, Blue. Now, if you wanna experience the best movie Tarantino ever worked on, you seriously gotta checkout True Romance. He only wrote it, he didn’t direct, but IMO it is the very best thing he’s ever done. I know the name “True Romance” sounds kinda cheesy, but trust me, this movie brings it in every way. Oh yeah, but it’s gotta be the Director’s Cut, the background music just flows better, and the extra dialogue really makes better sense of everything. 💙
@TTM9691

True Romance is not the "best movie he ever worked on", that's ridiculous. It's a lot of fun, but the direction is nowhere near as good as his own style. Get some taste. The fact that you find the title "cheesy" just shows what a limited person you are, holy fuck.

The briefcase was a textbook "MacGuffin", added by the writers Roger Avary and Tarantino. The giveaway that it is Not Marsellus' soul (as some guess) is at the end when 'Pumpkin' (Tim Roth) sees it and says, "Is that what I think it is?" Additionally, about the briefcase, Pulp Fiction writer Avary said this: *"Originally the briefcase contained diamonds. But that just seemed too boring and predictable. So it was decided that the contents of the briefcase were never to be seen. This way each audience member would fill in the blank with their own ultimate contents. All you were supposed to know was that it was "so beautiful." No prop master can come up with something better than each individual's imagination. At least that was the original idea. Then somebody had the bright idea (which I think was a mistake) of putting an orange lightbulb in there."* So clearly (as done by Many artists of many mediums), the audience / fan / viewer, is given the opportunity to use their imagination- so the "object" is not anything but your own imagination. So let it be whatever you want it to be, but I have add that if it is something that a random little crook (like Pumpkin) can see and recognize, it wasn't a soul pulled from Marsellus' neck. ✌🏼

The Restaurant where the holdup happens is very close to my house. It's an old diner attatched to an old motel that was popular until they put in Interstate 5 which redirected traffic away from HISTORIC ROUTE 99 where the hotel is located in Sun Valley, CA. I remeber it before they closed it and a production company purchased the whole property and it is now a permanet movie set were they film all the time. The pool at THE PINK MOTEL is featured in a very famous Tony Hawk video when he was very young. The amount of All time best movies with a scene filmed there would be too numerous to list. Also, right across The Tujunga Wash (Seasonal River) there is an abandoned rock quarry that I recently found out is a movie set purchased for Star Wars productions. Pink Motel is somewhat acessable (They often block part of the street during exterior shots), however the quarry site is WAY TOO DEEP to see any filming..

Film school is just a way to keep people out of the industry. I was an editor I never had film school. Film school doesn’t get you a job its how much coke you do with the right people. There are probably a ton of Tarantino out there and will never get that opportunity. I watched an editor create the biggest trailer house in Hollywood. How did he do it? He stabbed his friends in the back did coke with the right people, stole clients and now he owns Buddha Jones and produced Fall. I called him a selfish piece of white sh*t. Which is the reason why I don’t work for him or in Hollywood anymore. But those don’t make interesting stories people like smiles and coke induced “enthusiasm.” Like I said lots of Tarantinos out there…lot of ‘em that will never get that opportunity.

This was a GREAT reaction! (Except - this is not an "old movie". Film has been around for over 110 years at this point. Something less than thirty years old is not remotely "old". Especially since the style and sensibility of nineties filmmaking is so close to today's, especially when compared to, say, the 1950s vs. the 1970s. Film changes much less over a few years than, say, music does. It's almost shocking how long ago it is, but it is not "old".) The last few minutes really do remind me of my own reaction on first seeing Pulp. There were probably three films (maybe four) which I saw while at college which truly blew my mind, left me in awe and spinning (mentally and possibly physically). And this one - seen in its release year, in my campus theater; I must have been twenty years old - was the most impactful of all. Trixie, your post-viewing reaction - including "because - this is like the best movie I've ever seen, honestly!" - takes me right back there. Thank you, and welcome to the club : )
