Very saddening... they would have reached the same popularity that SNSD and 2NE1 have today. But at least they are finally regaining attention now thanks to many K-pop reactors :)

@@justinjyeungagree.. All of the members had gone thru really tough times for years.. No matter how hard they worked their ass out, k-netz & the industry would just mocked them and even banned them from doing some shows which means they totally blocked T-ara's path from success.. I still can't get over with their reactions when they were announced as winner for their last & final comeback as T-ara, after the whole truth about 'that issue' was finally revealed..... 😢 It's so heartbreaking....

Yup, T-ara is named like "tiara" and actually, their fandom name is QUEEN'S, so it's very fitting :) They debuted in 2009 with 6 members, added 1 member in 2010, and added another in 2012. But those added members each left in 2012 and 2013, respectively. T-ara was under Core Contents Media (now known as MBK Entertainment) and is often called the "chameleon of K-pop", because they are known for their ever-changing concepts but also an emphasis on catchy songs and electronic dance hooks. "Number 9" marked what I like to call T-ara's "renaissance" as they returned to their original 6-member lineup and it's just an overall great song, has that clear T-ara sound to it. While "Sugar Free" was released to lukewarm success in Korea, due to the 2012 scandal and the public turning their backs on them, I generally see it as the first T-ara song recommended to people nowadays due to its hard EDM sound. "Roly-Poly" was T-ara's 2011 hit that launched them into huge success and made them a household name in Korea. (But their 2009 hit "Bo Peep Bo Peep" is what put their name out there as rookies to keep an eye on.) The mini-album for it, John Travolta Wannabe, was one of the best-selling albums of that year. It was also the first of T-ara's drama MVs, which is thanks to multiple members acting in dramas while as T-ara members (some members were even originally trained as actresses before joining the group!). Oh, and fun fact is that the song was written by Shinsadong Tiger (best-known for producing EXID and several hit songs from 2nd-gen), but he was procrastinating on it. One day, he was called in to meet with the CEO to check his progress on the song, and he literally came up with the title on the spot when he noticed a roly-poly toy on the CEO's desk LOL Hm, when this first came out...yeah, I was showed the entire 12-minute video lol. I didn't really know what I was watching at that time and I didn't know at the time it would become my favourite K-pop song either lol The 6 main members are: -Boram (N9: straight black hair and black/white dress, RP: the girl who gets left with the guy, SF: long brown hair and white beanie) - the oldest member, known as the "fake maknae" due to her short height and youthful looks -Qri "Q-ree" (N9: red hair, RP: the one with twin pigtails, SF: the one with blue in her hair) - second oldest, the current leader and known as the "lucky charm", since she has the 1st line in each of T-ara's most popular songs -Soyeon (N9: long black hair and sings chorus, RP: the one wearing all white, SF: sings most of the chorus) - the main vocalist, her voice has a unique tone and it was well-known that she was originally in the lineup of SNSD, but at one point withdrew because she did not feel ready for debut yet -Eunjung (N9: shortest hair, RP: short black hair, SF: short black hair) - the 1st leader, her specialties are high notes and rapping, and she was originally trained as an actress; currently active as an actress -Hyomin (N9: long hair and raps, RP: the one with the green hat and brown hair, SF: bleached hair) - often a lead vocalist or rapper, she's known to bring the "sexiness" to the group, and has been active as a soloist -Jiyeon (N9: shoulder-length brown hair, RP: the center, SF: long black hair with some rapping) - the maknae, visual, center, she was also originally trained as an actress and has acted in many dramas In "Roly-Poly", you will also see Hwayoung, the rapper added in 2010. Unfortunately, the 2012 scandal occurred due to her and her twin sister Hyoyoung bullying Ahreum (the member added in 2012), and also her not attending practices due to her "leg injury", even though she was mostly faking the severity of it. Due to that, Hyomin posted a tweet about "putting in effort", and netizens misinterpreted it as the members bullying Hwayoung. Hwayoung was shortly kicked from the group by the CEO, but continued to play the victim card all the way until 2017. Then, a former staff member finally revealed the truth about Hwayoung being the bully. As a result, fans are very upset that the MBK CEO never cleared up the misunderstandings for 5 years, only apologizing after the former staff member revealed the truth. And that allowed T-ara to get their 1st win on a music show after 5 years of the Korean public having turned their back on them. I could go on and on about T-ara lol, but I think this is good for a basic introduction, I don't want to overwhelm someone new to them yet XD "Cry Cry" and "Lovey-Dovey" are major hits from them, but other great ones are "Lie", "Bo Peep Bo Peep", "I Go Crazy Because of You"/"You Drive Me Crazy", "Day by Day", "Sexy Love", and "So Crazy".

Thank you 😊 it was a great explanation by the way I love this group from 2009 and even if they've already disbanded i still love them and up until now i listen from time to time to some of their songs. There are a lot of kpop girl groups now and nothing got my interest like how i was so interested in them before.. Though i like 1 girl group now but not as much as i did with T-ara I really miss them.. Their songs are my stress reliever if i may say. I listen to their music even their very first song with only 5 members (jiyeon, eunjung, hyomin, jiwon amd ji ae) titled good person but did not debut because jiwon and ji ae left but replaced by soyeon, qri and boram up until i think their last song with only 4 members (jiyeon, qri, eunjung, hyomin) titled what's my name... I love all of their songs and i miss seeing them perform all together as a 6 member group.. I'm a fan definitely will be a fan forever because i just loved them

You're welcome, I'm the same in that T-ara's songs really are just that good, not just title tracks but all their B-sides too. :) And while Soyeon and Boram have gone separate ways (for now?), the other 4 are not disbanded, just on hiatus :) They still meet together and even performed at the MMTG Chuseok Concert in October! T-ARA had many hits with lovey dovey, cry cry, sexy love, day by day. They were the rival group to SNSD during GG's peak but their bullying scandal from taken out of context videos destroyed their career from 2012-2018 didnt help that their company didnt realy try to clarify it but let the girls get witch hunted. Good news tho is that they have cleared their name finaly in 2017/2018 but they also disbanded after it so it became bitter sweet.

Omg you watched Roly Poly story version. Bless your heart 😂😂 Roly Poly is basically a parody/inspiration from the (very popular) Korean movie “Sunny” where a mother in present time reminisces on her time in the 80’s with her friends and all the shenanigans they got into and then she embarks to gather all them together and meet again. Great movie you should watch it (lol off topic) but basically what you saw in the MV lol

Oh man, T-ara... my first ult gg, love them but their history was so tragic. I don’t know where to begin so first of all thanks for reacting to them, it’s been a long time since I listened to them, it’s bittersweet. There’s a lot of InSomnias that were former Queen’s (fandom name, as in “belonging to the Queen”) and Minx actually covered Roly Poly lol Good choice of songs for first reactions And then I realized how much more bops they had. Personally I think their earlier stuff was the best, Absolute First Album is still one of my favorite kpop albums. Some of my favorite songs are Like the First Time, You Drive Me Crazy (sounds like a B. Spears song lol) and Wae Ireoni (or Why are you like this?). Bo Peep Bo Peep gave them their first win and brought them attention. And if you’re up for another movie (they were known for doing this) Cry Cry and Lovey Dovey are a two part MV drama, as well as Day by Day and Sexy Love. They had multiple versions of their songs and mvs so it can get confusing (like Roly Poly in Copacabana ver lol) They had some catchy songs and dance moves but I do NOT miss their seizure inducing one second cuts in their MVs. Rewatch the MVs again and see how long each scene shows lol They had several lineup changes but the ot6 lineup w/ the 3 original members Eunjung, Hyomin, Jiyeon and added members Boram, Soyeon, and Qri were the most well known. My favorite members were Boram, the shortest member that looks like a kid/granny but she’s the oldest and Hyomin (the one that kinda looks like Jessica, she’s bffs with Sunny) Unfortunately, their bullying scandal made me take a 6 year hiatus from kpop because kpop is really not that serious but omg, Korea crucified them to the point where they had to promote in China/Japan instead. Good thing they were found innocent years later and that non-ot6 member who we lovingly call “the snake” got kicked out. But the damage was done. When DC got me back into kpop, T-ara was still active but I couldn’t get back into them and the events near their disbandment was a whole other issue. Sometimes now when you look at group brand reputation rankings or if you see a random poll you’ll still see T-ara’s name even though they’ve disbanded 3 years ago. There’s still Queen’s out there still trying to redeem their name and that’s freaking dedication. I could go on but i think I’ve been writing this for almost 2 hours now (ended up getting distracted by one of their drama long mvs lol) Yeah, that’s old kpop for you.

T-ARA has some of the most beautiful and emotionally resonance kpop songs every made, yet what is even more amazing is that they consistently combine it with hard hitting rhythmic dance tracks, cuteness and mature sensuality too. I think Number 9 and Roly Poly are great songs and I really like Sugar Free, other favorites are Cry Cry, Day by Day, Holiday, Good Person, Lovey Dovey, Like the First Time, Ma Boo, We Were in Love, Bo Peep and You Drive Me Crazy is sensationally sultry.

Tbh I was shook the first time I heard sugar free 😂 I'm gonna repost a comment about another 2nd Gen Girl group that you problably didn't see ! * Warning this is a very long comment * You recently said that you were trying to get more into 2nd Gen K-pop, so I'm suggesting a girl group for you.. which is 4MINUTE 😁 4MINUTE were a 5 members girl group who debuted in 2009 under Cube Entertainment (like CLC and G(I)DLE ). There is one member named Hyuna who was a member of Wonder Girls before debuting with 4MINUTE. Wonder Girls was the most popular GG back then so the company gave A LOT of lines and screentime to Hyuna, because she had a big fanbase even before 4MINUTE debuted. The debut era was kinda " Hyuna and Friends " In 2010, Hyuna also debuted as a solo artist and her popularity was still getting bigger. (She was the first female soloist to hit 100M views and she is easilly in the top 5 most iconic female soloist in K-pop) In 2012, the company decided to give more lines and screentime to other members, especially Gayoon (main vocalist) and Jiyoon (lead rapper/lead vocalist) Gayoon and Jiyoon debuted as a sub-unit named 2YOON , in 2013 In 2015, 4MINUTE came back with the song " CRAZY ". The line distribution was pretty fair and all the members got their name written on their hats. It was the era where ALL the members could shine and it was the first girl group MV outside the Big 3 to hit 100M views ! Their last comeback was HATE in 2016. They took a risk with this sound (produced by Skrillex). But it didn't sale as good as expected so the group did not renew their contracts. Only Hyuna could renew her contract because she could top the charts alone, but she also ended kicked out of the company because she was dating someone. (Which is pretty lame after 10 years of success and let's not forget she wrote Hobgobelin for CLC, the song who made them popular) 4MINUTE is known for being one of the first girl group to have badass/sexy concepts at a time where K-pop was dominated by cute concepts (Gee Gee Gee baby baby 😗 ) I suggest you to react to CRAZY because it's iconic and they have their names on and VOLUME UP which is also iconic and more vocal oriented 😉 HUH is also a good one ! I hope you are still alive after reading this !

11:35 "i feel like there's going to be an iconic dance" your right plus the song itself becomes iconic 15:20 yes it's a fact! 16:33 another fact! 18:15 you want more cinematic experience? kindly please watch their drama version: cry-cry (Part1) & lovey-dovey (Part2) Day by Day(Part1) & sexy love(Part2) hoping for more T-ARA reactions!

t-ara had SO many memorable songs back then. these days, lots of idol songs chart but they aren't so memorable and the korean public don't actually really know the songs. But for t-ara, so many of them songs are so catchy that many people know their songs, even if they're not as familiar with the group. a lot of their concepts are a bit... questionable a first lol! but then the songs are just so catchy and so are the dances, and they became hits (aka. bo peep & roly poly)

sugar free is my number one fav T-ara song. they actually released the radio edit on an album (as well as a big room version and a ibiza version) and then put out a 16 track album of Sugar Free remixes (8 versions in English, same 8 versions in Korean). i've not seen Roly Poly before but the beginning brought tears to my eyes ....i've spent too many years invested in kpop and k-drama. i know Roly Poly was long but you should watch Sexy Love (drama version) it's 15 minutes long but an essential part of a T-ara journey

Fun fact: Park Soyeon (1:59 to 2:04) almost debuted with SNSD, but she left right before because she felt like it was too easy for her to just debut so soon, so she transferred to a different company to train before debuting with T-ara.

My bias is Soyeon who is the main vocalist and she used to be from SM. Also she was the one of predebute SNSD members. Her classic beautiful voice is so unique! And of course Roly Poly was an iconic song together with SNSD's The Boys and 2NE1's I'm the Best in 2011 era !!!

2:35 yes, that's also why I like 2nd gen and 2.5 gen groups because all of them were born late 80s and early 90s, so they're around the same age as me and when I got into them it was like we were all growing up together. 3rd gen (like EXO and everyone after) are borderline for me to relate to when they debuted, and 3.5 gen (NCT) are definitely too young lol
