Don’t forget if you have a throwing knife equip you can get a 1 hit panic melee! It’s certainly saved me multiple times in a pinch! I run them purely for this reason alone!

One part you didn’t mention, hitting a player with a throwing star disables their sprint and causes a big flinch/screen whitening effect. Not super helpful if they’re already shooting you, but very useful if they weren’t already looking at you

Another problem with the throwing stars is that for whatever reason, throwing star kills DO NOT reset dead silence which makes it kind of pointless.

They're a fun addition for sure and I think both are good. If I'm using a melee class, I use the throwing stars. If i was using a shotgun, I'd also use the stars. But most of the time, the throwing knife is the best choice since it also gives you the traditional melee.

I was not happy when I unlocked and found out they weren't the same damage as a knife. Kinda fun killing with them but pointless choosing them over the throwing knife.

Helping hand here.. around 1:40, you can pick up your throwing stars, but only if you hit and kill the target with them.

Seems to me like the only necessary change for the throwing stars is to make its OHK zones bigger. At the very least you should be able to kill with one to the neck and upper chest. If you wanted to get weird with it you could make it so the first one thrown takes the standard 200ms (I would drop that down to around 150ms though) but the subsequent ones only take like 50-100ms per throw.

You should be able to pick your throwing stars back up but only if you successfully hit an enemy with it.

Personally as someone who runs both, I wish the throwing stars had the one hit melee replacement like the throwing knife. And also you could pickup if you kill

What about the wounding effect on the throwing stars? I noticed from using them briefly that hitting one seems to disable sprint or do something to their mobility that makes them easier to hit, that could be of use especially in warzone, where you throw one immediately to cripple a target for the gunfight Also, agreed with the sentiment of picking them up again, but otherwise I think I prefer the stars easily over the knives

I think a good balance for throwing stars would be you can pick them up if they land on a player. So you can pick them up off of bodies but not anywhere else. Also, the throwing knives also have the benefit of giving you a one hit melee since you'll melee them with the knife instead of blunting them to death, correct?

Throwing Knife also gives you 1 hit melee kill as passive which Throwing Stars do not. But I can see Throwing Stars having value in DMZ if the stars can 1 hit kill lvl 2 enemies like the Knife can, there is value in having 7 of them instead of 2 which does allow you to clear a nice group of enemies fast especially with fast hands while making 0 sound. They also could useful to quickly finish a downed player, assuming they can 1 hit a bleeding player.

I wanna mention if you did or didn’t do testing with them equipped alongside the riot shield? Because a while back the throwing knife use time got slowed when using a riot shield and I would love to know if that change was applied to the stars also?

I think the throwing stars are fun to use. I just think you should start with more(like 6) and have a bigger reserve(like 12) since they're mostly going to be a two(or more) hit kill it seems weird to have an odd number of them. Either that or expand the one hit kill area to include the upper chest.

I think stars would be perfect for infected over throwing knives, they'd stop those random one hit knife bounce kills, and reward really good infected players for being able to hit the head with a star

Seems like a lot of you are unaware of the disabling effect that the throwing stars have. Surprised you missed that Ace, it’s an extremely important factor to include. It literally throws your aim off, flashbangs you, and delays your heal. Seems really good for warzone/dmz

One thing I don't see mentioned is the melee. Melee when holding a throwing knife one shots people since you use the knife instead of the gun... But I guess that's minor lol

I actually like using it first and hitting them with a single round. Helps with weaker guns and shields if you're still working on it. I like softening an enemy and hitting them with a shotgun at range. Also, helps with the tec9 if you land one and have to deal with multiple players. Especially if using the base mag size.

Do you still get the classic melee with the Throwing Star, or is that exclusive to the Throwing Knife?

It would be cool if you can pick the throwing starts up from a dead enemy but they disappear if you miss. Or vice versa where you can pick up throwing stars if they hit a wall but not if they hit a player.

I heard other youtubers saying that throwing stars in hardcore are still 2 shots and not 1 shot, which would be weird with the 90 damage. Have you tested this @exclusiveace? Or could you maybe test this as a follow up?

MW2 has been full of blunders this year. However, I do want to give it to them for adding the ninja stars which play differently from the throwing knife. Even though the ninja stars are hard to use effectively, I think it would be better if they increased the 1 hit kill range to the upper torso area. That way the ninja stars can more reliably get a 1 hit kill if your aim is decent/good. I think then it could rival the throwing knife.

If you get some downtime i would love to see the differences between the aim assist types and the the aim response curves.

Maybe they could add a way to throw 3 throwing stars in a small cone like a shotgun. The ability to 1-throw-kill someone would be like a throwing knife, except closer range because of the spread, but with faster projectile speed and a little bit more forgiveness at super close range. Primary fire to throw one at a time, in rapid succession like it is now, and the ADS button to throw 3 at a similar rate to a throwing knife.

Ace, Have you looked at how the new lethal interacts in hardcore mode? There appears to be a damage clamp mechanic at play regarding the throwing stars; players can survive a throwing star to the body in hardcore. There's been some confusion in the community!

Riot shield + throwing stars + scavenger sounds pretty powerful

I've found that the best use of the throwing star (where it's better than the throw knife) is finishing off hurt enemies; whether it's someone who's downed using last stand, when you do damage but run out of ammo in the clip, or comboing it with one shot weapons for when u get a hitmarker (best for pump shotguns or bolt action snipers/marksman rifles)

I feel like it'd be interesting if they had the throwing stars act more like a burst fire weapon, where the player can throw 2 stars simultaneously but with a slight delay between stars. Think something like Genji's throwing stars in Overwatch, how each one is thrown sequentially in quick succession. There would be an interesting interaction with that where it trains players to rely more on tracking their target to make sure that both stars connect, and I think this also pairs better with the quicker velocity. It's clear that they must've had a similar idea to this considering the time to release when throwing multiple stars, but with their method it feels like it doesn't encourage players to take an advantage of that. Plus, it's in the lethal slot, people naturally will treat this as a one-and-done weapon where a single click should do the job for them.

Tbh with this and the full auto dessert eagle it just seems like they wanted to add some fun more silly kinda things. I'm literally smiling the whole time running around using akimbo full auto d-eagles.

One thing that has made this equipment far more fun for me is using a pistol for just that little bit of damage and then whipping the throwing star to make it a one hit kill. Is it the most effective way, no probably not but this is a very strange piece of equipment & I've been having fun using it cause it's a new non explosive lethal which we don't ever get in a cod game.

I think a good change for the throwing star would be if it hits a person you can pick it back up but it breaks if you miss and cant pick it back up.

I love the throwing stars, but they totally fucked up the balance for Warzone. Takes three hits and you can only carry TWO!! Like wtf is that?! They need to vastly increase the capacity for Warzone.

I use knifes for sniper/dmr loadouts, and stars for smg/ar loadouts. Not sure which ne I should use for lmg/br though.

Throwing stars defently need a buff or two: - They should be recoverable - They should have half or less the restoc time. - They should 1 tap head/neck/upper chest in multiplayer and minimum head/neck in warzone and also 2 tap shoulders/stomach in warzone. Ideally i would love them to 1 tap upper chest in warzone as well. And then also we need a bloody ballistic knife xD or if they by rules have to w8 for treyarch to implement that they should at least at a harpoon or smt meanwhile xD Can you so such a stat video for warzone?

I have a quick scope class with the new machine gun pistol and I prefer throwing stars. Its being able to beat a person with a regular gun to the punch and throwing on the run that makes it really good. Just looking at stats will kind of throw you off here.

I don’t understand if the throwing stars were available in the game for a while (I’m talking about warzone here) then why they didn’t update the kill feed icon it’s like they are not even bothered about this game anymore. The kill feed icon still says that you are killed by throwing knife instead of throwing star.

I wish they would improve the kill area to the neck and maybe the heart, that would be fun. And make them recoverable. Otherwise I think they are neat!

How does the damage work against enemies with armor? Sometimes I've downed a player in DMZ with the throwing knife and other times not so seems inconsistent but then could just not have had as much health to begin with etc. I've seen the same sort of inconsistency with the tier 3 AI as well.

I think they should add like an upper torso one hit kill inside of say like 20 meters, make them much more attractive to use as well imo

In order for the throwing stars to compete with the throwing knife, they would need a much faster time to throw for the first one. Maybe that is actually the raise weapon time, I don't know. Otherwise, I have no reason to pick them. Time to throw is the reason that semtex can still be useful and hasn't just been fully replaced by drill charges.

I recommend running Scavenger instead of Resuply. Scavenger gives you 2 stars per scav pack whereas Resuply gives you 1 star like every 30 seconds.

The unlock challenge to extract them in DMZ is bugged You need to get the 50 kills with throwing knives which in MP isn’t that hard especially on shipment but in DMZ is a pain since you need to both down and kill the enemy with the throwing knife

I would personally use the throwing star more because I use marksman rifles and such at medium distances as a preference, so the advantages outweigh the costs in my opinion, and I mean strictly as a finisher or something. If you run out of ammo with a SA-B08 and are getting the run around, that little amount of damage and stun is the difference between life and death and while sure a knife is instant kill, what if you miss?

the throwing knife is a high tier meta equipment for warzone/dmz/plundre, since you can instantly kill downed players. Does the throwing star do the same with a body shot? If so it definitely has its place in class setups

The ease of hitting targets is less important when you consider that the knife is the same as the knife in the last mw and the tomahawk all the way back in bo3 plus some other games as well we’ve all been practicing with this thing since like 2016 years of practice with knife > better travel time with star

My primary use of throwing knives is on clunky LMG and sniper builds where I have no close-range options. Based on the fact the stars have better range, no pickup, and the wounding effect of frangible rounds they seem to be designed for players who want to extend their long-range damage. Reducing a target to a weakened state so that any stray bullet kills. I'd personally pair throwing stars with an SMG and a launcher. allowing me to build a hyper fast and squat SMG while still being lethal at range.. as well as take out any UAVs I may cause by peaking a sniper with a shuriken.

It’s primarily a filled for out of ammo, with enemy nearby.. faster than reload and weapon swap

So throwing star is more like a finishing tool to use when you need to reload and the throwing knife is juat another backup weapon for close combat, since it lets you quick melee with the knife and because is a one shot

If they really wanna get wacky, they should have a charge feature to where the longer you hold, the more stars come out at once. Rn they are just too weak and slow to use consistently, it needs a change.

They are slept on. With scavenger you can get like 5 super quick. If you can slip one in a gun fight it guarantees you a win. Also they are silent so I like to slip them into any situation where I have the drop on the enemy.

Throwing star gets style points but the knife is undoubtedly better

Yeah Throwing Knives > Stars but I might use them in some weird "niche loadouts" like double tap mod, M16, etc...any burst weapon or akimbo pistols? The ONLY REASON I'd use them over Knives is b/c Stars are super accurate at "mid ranges" compared to knives so yeah, pretty niche lethal.

When I was younger my cousin bought a ninja star from a garage sale and sharpened it. He ended up throwing it at one of the kids that played with us and the kid didn’t instantly fall over dead. All this to say I like that they made them realistic in COD and not one shot
