Unfortunately you cant do that here in New Zealand, instant reef and lose your lure. These Fish head straight for the nearest sharp bits so the only way to catch them off the rocks is full lock up. Trust me, it took me about 5 years to figure this out

@@JEWildsFishing Yep, Kingfish are notoriously known as dirty fighters, once hooked in shallow waters they head straight for the bottom/kelp and tie you up. Having some elevation helps a lot but when fishing for Kingies from the side you need to rethink your tackle completely.

@@OBCBTTB I have had double hookups on my boat and had to sit the second hookup in the rodholder and they just gently swim and dont really fight until you pick the rod up and start pulling against them .... strange creature.

Those are called Amberjack here in the United States.Years ago back in the 1970's they would come in the beach surf and chase down the huge schools of roe mullet during the winter. Some of them would weigh upwards of 100 pounds. My biggest was 97 lbs that I got 6 years ago about 60 miles out in the ocean. Great video...Take care.

Insane moments man, kings from a kayak must be something! Great footage as always. Boiling water always brings chills down the spine of any angler, even more with big fish. I'm glad you get to experience moments like those. But a beast coming from the depts is always a beast, nobody can change that and everybody wants to see and testify such moments! And it is for those moments that we live for...those amazing fish!

If you are referring to the amazing take at position 4:21 of this video I would say Yes and No with regards to the actual cast. Ideally you want to get over them and pull through them, not in front of them. Its possible that the thick nylon these guys use limits the casting range here. That shoal was so keen you could of cast on top of them they would have still eaten you. The size of those fish is simply ridiculous, we can only gloat here from ZA.

9:55 In my opinion Kingfish would shy away from large hooks before a thick leader would become an issue. When the Kingfish are unkeen rather scale down on hook and/or lure size and a different lure action or colour. That been said, never fished NZ, I'm from ZA, different strokes.

Hey Joe, Good stuff mate thanks for making these videos, I'm keen to come to NZ for a Kingy and a snapper one day. When I'm spending a day on the water especially in the kayak I chuck on a pair of leggings, cause they are tight on the skin they are cool especially if you wet them every so often, it's no fun at the end of the day and your legs are cooked.
