@@thubprint THAT is how I ended up with a crap load of stuff that I am still sifting through. I am OCD, a rabid environmentalist, and ended up in a household where the person who had the lease in his name "lost it". I inherited a share of the "crap karma" on the way out, and the process of breaking it down for maximum efficiency is a sort of cathartic therapy for me. I am going to write it out as a cautionary note about the "balance of scrapping", or so that people can recognize a slight tendency in themselves and by imagining it run amok can feel gratitude for such sanity as they have. The guy: Bad relationship after horror show childhood (details not needed) = neurological triggers switched, breakers blown Permanent drive towards distraction and rejection of responsibility or completion of anything (completion is a sort of responsibility to the mind set in question, because you never have to say "I didn't do it" if you are never done anything). This manifested as novelty seeking behaviour, "Curious George" to the power of "Ooh what's this?"; I would bet that anyone reading this can relate at least a little to that because it is a natural part of how a scrapper's perception/action cycle operates, but THIS was the extreme. The damage done to the guy at a developmental age, and which had "come back" with a vengeance was the same as what lies behind some compulsive gamblers, or even some cases of pyromaniacs or worse. More, more, more, forget, more, repeat. He filled a 5 bedroom house with 7 people and two living rooms, plus backyard and carport. It was slow at first, and nine of us really understood what was happening, he just started bringing stuff home. At first, it was interesting, a lot of it was vintage or almost antique tech, and of course a lot of it was metal that he claimed he was going to recycle for cash. None of us really could grasp that the way that stuff was coming but not leaving was IT, the only setting that the process had. The relationship that was what drove the connection between "now" and the "way back when" that short circuited the guy? She was understandably NOT happy about the rapidly filling house, and that just spurred it on (obviously). The fellow kept on coming up with plans to make what he was doing rational, few of them realistic and none of them complete. Collection of cigarette foils was one. THAT is NOT a viable cottage industry. Eventually he discovered that he could raid electronics that were dumped in front of a local recyclers. He would drag stuff home, take it apart just far enough that it would be irreparable, and then forget it while hunting back alleys for the next "fix of acquisition". I started dismantling stuff and sorting it I order to try to get ahead of him, hoping that maybe he would at least pick up the habit. Nope, every space that was opened up was just another place to fill. The thrill of "scoring" something. The indulgence of curiosity. The satisfaction of bringing something ridiculously large and heavy back to one's layer (vestigial hunters instinct, I suspect ) Projects of organization started, but never completed. We can all relate, but this was a matter of sheer VOLUME. Not only was he filling the house and environs with enough mixed metals and sundry crsp that the house wifi signal was beginning to attenuate from scattering effects, he threw off the local "street ecology by grabbing so much stuff that "legitimate " scavengers couldn't find anything of worth. This is, again, just something to consider and a mild caution if anyone ever notices their own behaviour shifting in certain ways as a reaction to stress. I knew things were not going to end well at the point where life started to turn into a bad movie. That was the day that he proudly came home with an enormous Chinese shrine, complete with porcelain figurines, a vase, and scraps of paper that someone had apparently been writing on and then burning (judging from the tiny pile of paper ashes). He cut it apart to make shelving for above his bed. Fast forwarding to months later once I was safely free from the deteriorating situation and talking with someone else who would visit the house occasionally. I learned the "final facepalm" (on top of the reports of "being touched while sleeping" by house guests who found no one when they woke up, the one wandering monk type who turned pale and almost bolted from the house while describing something above the roof laughing (not the only account), and a host of other events including the arrival of a bumbling Italian gangster named (of course) ' Tony'). The insane guy at the centre of all of that had not just turned the shrine into a piece of bedroom furniture. He had also been using the ashes that he found in what was not a case, but an urn(!), to clean out his meth pipe (he got into that about halfway through the decaying spiral). Cherish your sanity.

I wish I could do that..I'm trying to keep it basic but some things must be sold or salvaged but it cuts into scraportunities.

@@thubprint It wasn't super profitable. More work than it was worth, but fun. I made some attempts at sales at labs, but the stuff was pretty obsolete. I damaged my shoulder getting one of the decomposers out of the car.

I have a good proper respirator, yes! I doubt the mesh was precious but probably high heat resistant. I’m hoping to keep the balance tbh, it’s pretty crazy how accurate it can be even to a tiny degree! In hindsight I wish I had filmed this more carefully and shown the balance and the grinder and the ultrasonic all working, not to mention the cases of glassware I got too. I was going through it hastily, and I guess that behaviour affected my video as well. It still took three weeks to make because I was stalled out waiting for the replies! That’s why it might feel like there’s a pt1 and a pt2 stuck together, because there is 😅

That sounds like a great system you’ve put together! 😁 I grew up in a small town and the dump we had was pretty much the same, the big city is a totally different scenario though. If that was allowed here I imagine the piles would be crawling with scavengers all the time, it would be impossible for them to work! Leave it better than you found it 😉

A person can sell whatever they like of course! My problem with these is I don’t have the time or the space to just hold all of it, so that sort of forced the tone of this video. Quick decisions, quick turnover, quick quick quick! Sort of an unfortunate way to end it with backpedaling on all that 😅

Hi again. If you think of cleaning the lab tools use isopropanol or ethanol and try it on a hidden part. No acetone please, because it makes things dull and blind ;-)

Simple green huh? I have a different ultrasonic cleaner but I wasn’t sure what to use in it. That laundry net idea is an easy excellent tip!

I should’ve been more descriptive about using Silver Tarnex cleaner. After you clean your parts in the sonic cleaner simple green solution.Rinse and dry.Then give it the Tarn x dip.After the job is done rinse thoroughly so you don’t get the tarn X crusty’s Dry it with a hairdryer. Another subject I saw you, that you don’t like coax cable. Note some high-end coax cable has silver braiding and center conductor instead of being copper. Silver has many property’s it’s 20% less resistive than copper for running voltage through it. Not to mention anti-corrosive benefits don’t know if that electrolysis comes into play with electronic components. Electrolysis happens with two different metals with voltage. Another bunny trail with silver having to do with electricity. During World War II the Manhattan project building the nuke bomb had to go to the coinage mint and have a bunch of coins melted so they can have the wire for their project. It is quite interesting you should look it up I forget if it was on the history channel or on KZfaq or whatever it was a decade or two ago but it is an interesting piece of history. I know I know TMI (too much information).😁 A commodities commentary save your silver because it is far too cheap especially because there’s more paper silver in the market to be sold than actual above ground silver. But the criminals in the industry won’t say the King has no clothing. This is my perspective.

I tried the counter offer and they wouldn’t go for it, but I had the same concerns. The market for this specialized stuff might very well be focused on new equipment and used ‘as is’ condition stuff could be quite difficult to find a buyer for. We’ll see!

@@thubprint I'll trade ya. Found a medical laboratory sterilizer that I think works. If not the wash tub has to be at least 25 pounds of stainless steel. Was my best find of the week. Since you made me envious of your find the other week had to pick up a dryer for a customer and he payed me with 100 pounds of copper flashing. Not sure if he knew what it was worth but didn't argue.

@@thubprint I deleted the Instagram account but you did message me back. It took me 2 years but I'm finally getting a mini transfer station up and going. It'll be insane like with 6 dumpsters at least 2000 lbs in steel and we have over 100 lbs in copper wire😱

@@thubprint I have lanes in my shop or the "storage unit" as I affectionately call it. I work in a school district and we're surplusing schools as we go, so I ahem "liberate" scrap/nuts/bolts/old crap as we go through them to clean them up for demo.
