He's not a complete player, does not have ( pure) point guard skills,and one of the reasons the thunder have failed in the past is because he has never learned to make plays that force defenders to play honestly and which enables the Thunder to get the most out of each possession, especially when the outcome of the game is on the line. No matter what he says, the Thunder have failed miserably since he's become their captain, and although losing Durant was a major blow to the team's chances for success, three straight opening-round playoff losses speaks for itself.

His just so arrogant and full of himself, in the way he talks and plays. Since copping slack for the way he cries during interviews, u can tell his making an enormous effort now. Otherwise he would of had a hissy fit with a lot of the questions that were asked. Russ is full of shit, as much he is a greedy ball-hog and overrated. OKC is regretting his 4year max contract, and Paul George is kicking himself for staying

When Durant,Westbrook and Harden were together I was a Bulls fan, thinking they'd meet in the finals. Harden was traded, Rose got hurt (and was traded by Chicago) and Durant knew he'd win in Golden State so he left. The league would have been a lot more competitive - and exciting- if these things hadn't happened, but they did. OKC is one of the biggest casualties. Westbrook isn't a genuine leader because he doesn't know how to adjust to the circumstances that have produced the changes around him,, which for a ten-year veteran is puzzling. It take a certain formula to win a title, and all he had to do to realize it was study the old San Antonio or even the Lakers teams which the Thunder eventually beat. They shared the ball, played solid defense, and when the game was on the line,made smart, unselfish decisions with the ball, not bail the defense out like Westbrook does. The ball is in his hands at the end of games , but he's failed too many times to justify it.

I'm not a fan of Westbrook at all, but I kind of get where he's coming from here. He has life's priorities sorted out. He has a lot of tools and performs at a high level. What he needs to improve further is to be more controlled and calm on the court when it's called for. That's his main flaw as a player.

The star goes out slowly. It is quite remarkable that the speech is a lot about himself, what he is proud of, which he is sure of, effort, leadership, that he gives his best, etc. Not a single word to the fans who have hoped every night, that the game is changing. Not a single critical word about what they could have done better in the play-offs. The reason why the team lost 4-1 and so many other important things. Nothing like that, just unimportant stuff about yourself and his satisfaction with life. The guy understands only well what professional basketball is when he comes to cash in the millions. That the fans (those who pay the whole amount) expect much more from him and the team (not only in the field, but also at every public appearance), it doesn't matter to him and the organization. Self-promotion don't helps to win playoffs games, on the contrary.
@Simon_Sez
@Simon_Sez 4 жыл бұрын
Der blinde Sánchez Agreed. It’s a lot of arrogance that I notice professional athletes try to disguise as some type of humility. I don’t understand how that really works as those words seem rather contradictory so maybe I’m just confused on the phrasing but it’s really unfortunate Russ is seemingly unwilling to change regardless. Maybe even unaware that changes should be made in order to win after getting embarrassed by Ricky Rubio and a rookie Donovan Mitchell. It really shows when a lot of people expected the 6 seed thunder to handle to blazers but Dame Lillard has shown vast improvements. He had a similar embarrassing playoff loss to the Pelicans but came back and made it a point to be better at splitting those aggressive traps up top and even launching from 30+ before the defense can swarm him. Russ has been the same old Russ on the other hand and hasn’t shown much of any improvements since a similar low point in the playoffs

Prime Derrick Rose never got a ring. Lillard is not better than him. He will never be bigger than Westbrook either. He spoke a lot of real shit in this interview, when you’re successful and do everything you possibly can (yes he missed a lot of shots in this series) but he had rebounds and assists like crazy. Adams got outplayed by Kanter. PG played like he didn’t have a fucking pulse until game 5. The man did everything he possibly could. People always gonna hate when you’re giving your best.

He has improved but he isn't a legit shooter yet. There is only one on the team and that's PG 13. Russ shot 1% lower than his average this year so why all the talk about his shooting? David Morrison if his shooting percentages were only 1% lower than usual and people still had a problem with it, don’t you think that could mean there’s something wrong with his career averages? Lol. A career 30% 3point shooter does not need to be taking 5 threes a game and that is the point people were making. Not that this one season is so astronomically low that he needs to stop shooting. It’s that he’s always shot this low percentage and has never learned to take smarter shots. People are just re-emphasizing that yet again because it’s the same story every year.

Thanks for being positive, Willy Santana. Russ is right... hater's gonna hate - nothin' he can do about that. The Thunder's owner/management didn't hang onto good players they should have, who've continued to play well elsewhere. If I had given as much as Russ has, to play this game at a high enough level to compete, then got treated this way after Harden left, Ibaka went same year KD bailed and other players left (owner avoiding luxury taxes), I'd chew my gum for some of this interview, if it kept me even. He was honest, yet he's STILL criticized. He doesn't deserve the blame for OKC not making it into the next round. He's 1 player out of 4 more on the court at any given time. He expects so much from himself and doesn't make excuses. He doesn't blame his teammates or his coaches. When OKC lost Asst Coach Monty Williams (his wife died in a car crash/he's raising their kids alone now), Williams abruptly left. The Phoenix Suns just hired him as their Head Coach... he's good and had great repore with every OKC player. That off season, with KD and Ibaka no longer on the Thunder, the team lost a lot, and it's not the 1st time they've had hardship like that. Russ hangs in and stays loyal - he's consistent with his strong work ethic, making things look easy that many of his peers don't do as well as he does (great players tend to do that). Criticizing him so freely, then comparing him to players on teams where they're surrounded by teammates with many more years of experience, when half of Russ's teammates are quite young, is simply unfair. And let's get real - the dude has set fashion standards with panache. He wears a nice pair of sweats, and now he's not dressed appropriately?!? Get off his case and admire what he HAS accomplished and how much he cares about his teammates and his coaches. Disappointments happen... but you should realize that this Thunder team has suffered their share, and then some. You can't blame Russ just because he stayed with his team when others did not, for whatever reason. Consider some of these things before you put down the answers he's giving here as he tries to make up with the media. If he loudly smacked his gum every interview, it would be different. He doesn't. He's a human being at the end of the day, and deserves to be treated with respect- we would want to be, if we were lucky enough to be in his shoes, which he gives away to a young fan after EVERY game he plays... BECAUSE HE REALLY DOES CARE! As a Thunder fan since my youngest showed me his team, and why he loved KD and Russ so much, I can honestly say that our players are better individually than they are given credit for. Their energy, sportsmanship and uniqueness are amazing. The way our guys click is something else. PG has been a great addition to the team. Looking forward to getting Roberson back into the line up. The younger players will increase their confidence during the off-season and the team will gel more. Go, Thunder!!!

UB - Even though we may not agree on some things, did you catch the GS loss to Houston? Some fans are hatin' on Curry now. Russ is a talented player with a crazy work ethic... I grew up watching players like him through my childhood (N Y, Detroit, LA, Philly, Cinci, and Portland). The money wasn't in it back then, but the bond those players had was tight, and family's remain close to this day. They played for the love of the game, the high level of competition and because they wanted to win for their coach and fans. Sadly, my Pops (hook shot/excellent passer/shot blocker/rebounder) passed away recently. Unexpected, as he was still so strong and lean. His college coach and Olympic Coach passed away in the late 2000's, a year before his jersey was retired (won the NCAA Jr year, then lost in the NCAA Final the following year). That Olympic Men's Basketball Team was inducted into the Naismith HOF along with the 1992 Dream Team. Both teams had recently lost their head coaches. The comments I've made come from the many things I was privileged to learn during such a unique, unusual childhood. I loved watching Dr. J play... I understand you're not a fan, but I see similarities between him and Russell Westbrook.

His whole attitude and demeanor doesn't give much confidence that he will come back next season any different as a player and leader. At 30 his athleticism is naturally on a decline and he doesn't have the IQ or mentality necessary to compensate.

Greenyuo, been watching this team for years as a big fan. Still am, but at some point we just gotta be honest with ourselves. Like he said, he is going to keep doing the same thing... taking bad shots making bad plays. Dont need to be an expert to see the obvious.

Get this man some shooters! My gosh he would average 13 assist per game if he was surrounded by the shooters harden has . Gosh Sam presti irks me

That would be awesome but nah we can't afford him . But there's some guys out there in front agency this summer . Terrance Ross, Wesley Matthews, Wayne Ellington, tyreke evans. I want to see us sign one of these dudes.

@@JonathanEvans1977 i was over exaggerating a bit. It would atleast be in the upper teens. Better and true hitterz = more assist. Facts

I wish Berry Tramel had asked Russ if the Thunder would have been better off dealing him and keeping Harden and Durant together instead.
