I appreciate the experimentation, but I really feel the new ppr format misses what at least I saw as the point of the whole thing: watching these enjoyable people play through a little 8 man prerelease event and get a feel for it before your own prerelease event. As it stands now, it's 1 round of sealed, 3 rounds of draft, and a commander game which does very little to show players what to expect next weekend.

They had to work with what they had. Seems like it wasn't possible to get enough prerelease packs for everyone, so they changed up the format of the show.

This is not the new format going forwards, its mostly a one-off for various reasons, not least that WOTC still hasnt managed to finalize their PPR Contract with LRR. They are still sending them products, but the show isnt sponsored by Wizards currently. So they are kinda trying out some stuff for that reasons. Its the same reason why MKM PPR didnt have any guests.

@@grafikpapst very good point. Do we have any other information on that? Why was it "contracted" for so long but suddenly not? What's the prognosis on getting them back? (I understand if either A) You don't know and/or B) they haven't made all the nitty-gritty details public)

I think this feedback is important to showcase that even if this event wasn’t as intended because of outside circumstances that we as viewers do indeed appreciate the normal format for prerelease and trying to tie in multiple formats didn’t feel as satisfying to watch. I did, however, enjoy the throwback to an onscreen build of a sealed pool 👍👍👍

I don't like Insatiable Avarice here. You're only realistically going to be using it as a tutor here and that means it's going to just add 3 mana to the cost of one of your spells. With the quality of Serge's pool here, he could just play any other card and have it be just as good as one of his best cards with +3 mana cost.

I love the new format with different play formats, but I'm frustrated that I missed it because I was looking for ppr. Maybe a subtitle or tag next time you change the name so we don't get confused.

As a long time fan this was extremely disappointing. Serge's pool was better than a lot of draft decks... That's the match we get to watch felt like a forgone conclusion. Even with him messing up sequencing. Please go back to preprereleases

iirc there is contract shenanigans that didn't get it finalized before otj, so wotc didn't sponsor them this time. I believe that is why they did something different.

How does Preprereleases have anything to do with this? They do Sealed at PPRs too, so that wouldn't change any of this.

@@Aostabec yeah hence the lack of guests. As they didn't have sponsorship for travel or hotels... They still had the product so could have still done a ppr. Even if it was a draft ppr. (The draft portion was better but we still didn't really get to see how cards can effect the board in different matchups) Essentially we've gone from 8 matches to 4 of limited with a added match of precon commander

@@xhambah And again, how would this being a normal PPR make Serge's pool any different? Your comment seems to imply that somehow because of the different format it lead to an imbalance in the decks.
