ThunderCats 1985 HD Opening
I started with the best source I could find for the show which turned out to be the original DVD release from 2005. Here's basically what I did in order...
- Used MakeMKV to rip the episode to my computer.
- Used Handbrake to convert it to MP4 (filters: Yadif, UnSharp)
- Used After Effects to increase it's size from 100% to 104% with the Detial-preserving Upscale effect (this get's rid of the crappy edges on the left and right)
- Used Topaz Video Enhance to increase it to HD (1440x1080 or 206%) with these settings: Artemis Dehalo v1, grain amount .2 and grain size of .2 and exported to uncompressed PNGs.
- I went through all 2305 PNGs/frames and cleaned up the scratches with the clone stamp tool in Photoshop and used the smart blur filter to smooth out the main characters, and blurred all the clouds/gradients... one frame at a time.
- Finally I used Adobe Premiere to stich all the PNGs back together and synced it up with the music.
It's not perfect but I think it looks a better than I have ever seen it before!
