Thuy Trang (1973 - 2001)
This was taped on December 5th, 1994 at the West Oaks Mall in Houston, Texas. Thuy Trang (who played 'Trini' - The Yellow Power Ranger on "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers") was making an appearance and signing autographs to promote the show. I waited in line (with mostly kids and parents) to get an autograph.
Forgive the mediocre shots, I tried not to stand there staring at people through the viewfinder.

Sorry that the video quality is kind of poor, I taped this in the 90's with a 90's camcorder (auto focus, no stabilization, etc...). I ran it through a stabilizer filter so that the picture wouldn't shake, so you will see the borders move a bit.

I've seen this video many times and the thing that makes me smile is when Thuy lets the cameraman know that he isn't the "biggest kid." I'm sure if Thuy were still alive, she'd be at all of the conventions and Morphicons. I think she'd be happy that Power Rangers is still alive and well.

I was there!! You can very briefly see me in line at 0:39 in the blue shirt and ponytail dancing around a little because I was so excited. She had to have recently announced her departure from PR because I remember telling her I was sad she was leaving. She gently explained that she wanted to pursue other acting opportunites, but seemed touched and gave me a hug. She was incredibly sweet. That's obvious in this video. So sad that she wasn't alive much longer to pursue those dreams.

Thanks for sharing this. She did appear in the Crow sequel which, despite it being made after Brandon Lee’s accident and everything, was a pretty solid gig after PR. Being the music fanatic I am, it’s surreal that she got to share the screen with Iggy Pop and Ian Dury.

She would've loved going to all the Comic Cons. Can you imagine? She would've been with all the fans and would've been at the 2017 Power Ranger movie premiere with the rest of the original cast. R.I.P. Thuy!!!

I really wish she was still with us. I would of liked to have met her at one of these conventions and gotten to know more about her and what she could of become after her time with Power Rangers. It's really sad that the crew on set wasn't fair to any of then. Austin St. John, Walter Emanuel Jones...and Thuy left because of contract disagreements ....and David Yost ended up calling it quits eventually because of homophobia; he was treated terribly because.he is gay :(

She is beautiful in the inside and outside. Amazing human being. Has patience, calm, coolness, I was shocked to hear that she died in a car accident. She had so much more to accomplish in life. I would have loved to see her in any Power Morphicon convention.

Me too, strange how her passing eight days before September 11 2001, the attack on the world trade center. It's just horrible year. horrible loss. I went back to watch The Power Transfer part 2 MMPR, made me cry, then watched, Circuit Unsure Time Force Power Rangers, as it was a episode dedicated to her. makes me sad. :(

While this is not the first time I heard Trinity Kwan's voice off screen, it marks the first time I noticed how cozy and warm and friendly she was with kids. I give immense commendation to her because it shows she was so down to earth with people; she stood up to Ha'im Saban with Jason Lee Scott and Zachary Taylor because she saw something was just screwed up.🟡

I was really attached to all 6 of the original Rangers as a kid. Believe it or not I still am, because they remind of how I get along with most of my real friends. But Kim and Trini were my favorite. When Thuy left, I missed her...and it was bothersome that behind the scenes the cast along fine, but the crew wasn't fair :( Now with the MMPR reboot on the way...that's also sad.. It won't be the same without any of the original cast. Not to mention, the padding of Thuy and nothing will bring her back :'(

Thuy was the main reason I watched the Power Rangers . I had always thought she was cute, but after I saw this video I really appreciate the kind of person she was. She was so sweet and natural with those kids and at the end when she was reassuring you that it was okay to be an older fan (I'm not sure how old you were when you filmed that) well that made me love her even more.

Thuy Trang was hot 🔥. When she and the other power rangers fought the putties and played various sports, they were workouts. Sometimes when they did those stuff, Thuy Trang and Amy Jo Johnson said they were working out. I loved to hear Thuy Trang say hiyh-yuh when she fought the putties. Thuy Trang had an excellent butt. When she fought the putties and played sports and did other workouts, I said buns. 👍 She also had excellent legs, 👌 excellent thighs, and good hair. 🔥 She and Amy Jo Johnson were my favorite power rangers. They were also the main reason I watched Power Rangers. I hated the episodes that. Thuy Trang and Amy Jo Johnson weren't on the last segments; and I hated the episode Zedd's Monster Mash that Thuy Trang was only seen fighting the monsters; and I hated the episode A Monster Of Global Proportions that Thuy Trang was only seen in the viewing globe in the command center and fighting the monster; and I was so mad when she left the show! I missed her so much!

Do you remember the exact date you met her? Did you tell Thuy Trang she was very pretty? Did your mom say Thuy Trang was a nice girl? Do you still have their autographs? How old were you that day? Do you remember what Austin St. John, Walter Jones, and Thuy Trang were wearing? Old ladies that were behind the line and didn't get to get autographs said Thuy Trang's gorgeous and they said Thuy and she looked at them and smiled and they took her picture.

I'm currently watching the Power Rangers Marathon on Twitch. She is the true yellow ranger. She was pretty and had a beautiful smile and a great personality. Why did she have to leave us? This is unjust. I must cry when I think that such a great person had to go. Rest in peace. God bless you.

I met Amy Jo Johnson at South Texas comic con. She didn't interact with the fans. It was just pictures with fans and then photo op. You couldn't talk with her. I didn't pay $50 for an autograph so she was sarcastic with my sister and me. Thuy Trang on the other hand shows that she's very generous and takes her time to get to know the fans. I miss her. RIP Thuy Trang.

I think Amy has anxiety disorder she said in the beginning whenever she worked on mmpr. I think it was too much pressure and her first gig , so she's trying to come back. Idk I do agree $50 and ignoring your fans is a shame.

Interesting that this was filmed shortly after she had left the show, she seemed so sweet and caring towards fans, despite not "officially" being a ranger anymore. Would've been amazing to see her go to Power Morphicon and other conventions with all the other Yellow Rangers that followed her, quite a legacy. 💛

She died in a car accident, year 2001, it is said that her internal organs are damaged because of that accident, i can't believe that she is gone, i just find out this day, she was My favorite back then, i really admire her a lot, she's really good when it comes to actions, because of her skills in martial arts, condolence to her Family, and for our idol, we will miss you! She seems very humble. Sitting on the table to greet the Children & people. I don't think there's many celebrities (no matter how popular) that would do that. A TV/Movie person dies and there's no connection to them, we're more connected to their on-air persona, but to see this different side to it is when you can see the real tragedy; A very good person is lost, and we can only learn from the example she has set. She will not be able to enlighten us with new things again. RIP

I didn't know she's been gone this whole time I loved her character so much she was like Billy's big sister, the episode where she had to overcome her fear of heights to rescue Billy taught me that you didn't have to have big muscles or do fancy flip kicks to be strong I will always love her for that episode I can't believe I still remember that, I miss you so much Big sister Big Love from New Zealand R.I.P 💖🙏🇳🇿

10 years ago and we still miss you, Thuy. I didn't find out until a year later while I was surfing the web and I found out that Thuy had passed. You know I saw an interview that Walter Emanuel Jones did with someone around 2009 at an Expo. When Walter was asked about an MMPR reunion, he said he'd love to do it but obviously it won't be the same without Thuy :(

In a way, this video is both poetic & beautifully ironic. XD The first Power Ranger to permanently leave us in real life was already one of the first to embrace the fandom & legacy she left with her beloved character before many of her other co-stars/friends would do so years later AND on the same year she left PR too. It’s just a shame that Thuy didn’t live long enough to embrace the long lasting legacy and experience she began with her co-stars, successors and friends as one big happy PR family like Austin St. John, Walter Jones & her replacement Karan Ashly do frequently now. Of course I and many others would’ve loved to have met Miss Trang ourselves in person, but I think it’s safe to say this video fulfills that wish at least a little bit. It’s hard to believe that it’s already been 20 years since she left us.... Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this recording with us and of course, RIP to Thuy.

I was 2 when thuy did this. My family was nowhere near Texas so I never got the chance to meet her. She was my mom's favorite on MMPR. Watching this video I honestly believe besides being a actress in movies and TV shows Thuy would've been a great mom.

I'm still love her, I am 35 , and I said that I am her since the first time I saw the serie! I am big fan of MM Power Rangees! I never never liked Aisha, when was the change I feel 😥 and 😠 with change of Zack, Jason my first crush ❤😍😘 with Tommy and her! Thuy "Trini Kwan " Trang was a former actress on power rangers and she passed away at the age of twenty seven years old in California and she was so gorgeous and kind to anyone and I still miss her so much as a power rangers fan could and she would have achieved those goals in life but she was taken way too soon because she would have been in more TV roles and movies roles

I just went to wikipedia to see what happened to the original Power Rangers (I grew up watching them, after all) and just found out about her. I am shocked and very saddened to hear this. She was a very beautiful woman and a talented one at that. We actually named our cat after her character, Trini.

Nowadays, West Oaks Mall looks a bit run down with hardly anything interesting there. Nonetheless, (even though I was only a year old when she was here, however) it was nice that Thuy came to good old H-town. Too bad she couldn't live for me to meet her years later...

I wish I could've met Thuy too :( I remember meeting Austin St. John in 1994 ...and I've corresponded with Jason David Frank on Facebook. That was very cool :) But I didn't know Thuy had died until much later and needless to say, it was surprisingly devastating news. I would have met her...if she hadn't died :'( So...bottom line is...this is a nice clip to see

man i loved her, i had a crush on her and i was like 8 or 9 at the time :P now i still miss her ALOT and i wish just for one moment that i could have seen her at least once... that time has passed now and im in agony knowing that i cant ever see her except for the power rangers or the other movies she was in :(

I loved how she sat on the table and invited kids to sit up with her for pictures. If she was still alive, she, Walter, Austin and David would have crazy long lines at conventions like Morphicon.

Thuy was such a special human being. She was the sweetest. We lost her and the famous musician Aaliyah in 2001. 2001 was definitely a tragic year.

Thanks for the upload of this signing. It is so nice to see how sweet she was with the kids and the fans there. i was in my early 20's when the show first aired, so I was not in the target audience range of the show, but I did watch it mostly because i had a bit of a crush on Thuy. I was so sad when I learned about her death (sadly i didn't know about it until years after it had happened). i pretty much stopped watching the show after she had left the series, but a few years later i worked as an extra on Power Rangers in Space which was a pretty cool experience.
