The sheer incompetence amongst GP's and so called specialists regarding Hashimoto's / Hypothyroidism is truly staggering. So many people being kept sick and poor QOL ... and often leading to depression too. For many, Levothyroxine simple does NOT work .. leaving people in constant fatigue & illness.

To be fair with the pharmaceuticals.... The synthetic hormones are not actually intended to work. Their role is to divert people from the natural substance and, on the side, induce some other insideous diagnosis, for which more synthetics could be prescribed.

I've been there too, confused by the divide between holistic doctors, but the evidence presented by Dr. Brownstein in favor of adding iodine makes a lot more sense to me than what Dr. Child's and Dr. Christianson's weak arguments. I recently checked tested and I am deficient and I do get much better with iodine, it's just that you need to be weary of detox symptoms. My theory is that their whole practice would fall under if they can't compete with a low cost mineral. Childs, Christianson, Wentz, they all have a line of supplements that would be unnecesary with proper iodine uptake. It's hard to admit and accept a change that will destroy your years of building a specific business model that has benefitted them. I highly recommend all Brownsteins interviews. I even bought Lugol's solution in bulk to give to my family.

Please, please, watch Dr. Brownstein. I bought iodine in bulk for sharing with my family. I too was confused but I tested myself with a 24 hour urine loading test and as a hashimoto's patient, I confirmed I am iodine deficient just as I suspected. I think that the reason why Childs and Christianson are stuck with iodophobia is because it would mean their whole business model would be turned upside down and they would require a 180° on years of practicing and selling a lot of supplements that would fall short if iodine were a bigger part of the solution.

This information is opposite what David Brownstein MD (near Detroit, MI, part of the goiter belt) talks about along with his research in Dr. Abraham's lab on 1,000 patients in California. They were using 24hr urine excretion but also measured bromine and fluorine toxicity that were displaced off of the receptors by the iodine. Dr Brownstein has seen almost 9,000 patients and stopped thyroid medication in 3/4th by using higher doses of iodine (12-25mg not mcg) He reduced thyroid medication in the final 1/4 from 2 grains to 0.5 grain on average. So what is a patient to do? 🙄 Dr. Childs would you interview him too and help us with this great discrepancy?

My hairloss halts with iodine supplementation, my fatigue is gone, mood is exponentially better, no need for naps, heavy periods turned super ligh and painless, breast tenderness gone. It was a 24 hour loading urine test, not a blood test that confirmed my deficiency.

Thank you both for sharing your wisdom. I am currently helping my dad of 88 years, wean off the levothyroxine he's been on for years. We started by cutting the pill in 1/2 for 1 week, then that same 1/2 pill skip every other day for 1 week, then same 1/2 a pill, skipping every 2 to 3 days for 1 week, now, cut pill in half again, skipping it every 2 to 3 days, for another 1 week, cut it in 1/2 again and so on up to 2 to three months, then stop. This was recommended by an older couple who was on thyroid meds. for 15 years. My dad is into his 2nd week of weaning. I am also helping him wean off of clonidine, 1 pill for 7 days then, 3/4th's for 3 days, then 1/2, 3 days, then 1/4 for 3 days, then an 1/8th for the last 3 days. If I'm doing any of this wrong, please let me know. 🙏 Thank you. He is supplementing with chelated multi minerals and an herbal supplement: Dan Shen Wan (a safe alternative for blood pressure). I will have him cut back on salt as well. Also, he is taking 2,500 mcg. of B-12, sublingual, just today, he increased to 2 tabs, he complained about about low energy.

I had no thyroid problems at all. I became pregnant, 4 months in, I became very ill. Developed a lump on my neck. Went to my gynecologist same day lump showed up, heart rate was so rapid, I went from her office to hospital for 10 days. Dx with Graves. It was horrible with the pregnancy. The doctor had checked my t3, t4, tsh 2 months prior, and all were completely normal. The pregnancy started it. Now, I've heard a lot about post pregnancy thyroid problems, but getting Graves 4 month into a pregnancy? At the time, my endocrinologist said my case was very 'atypical.' I was his first patient he'd had or heard of, having it as bad as I did. He even wrote a published research paper on my case. Is this still considered not typical, or rare? I am very curious about this. BTW, I suffered greatly due to this during pregnancy, as I couldn't take much propylthouracyl (sp?) I had to stay hyper until after the birth of my son. My resting pulse before I got out of bed was 130. Nightmarish, I needed 4 doses of RAI after. That was a nightmare, too. Thank you for reading this. I'm glad I found this channel. ❤

Now that I'm hyperactive again, due to too much synthroid, I'm interviewing new doctors. It's not easy finding one who will work with you. I had a really excellent endocrinologist 10 years ago. Then he went into research. So, haven't found a good replacement since. Hyperactive feels so much worse than hypo, to me. @@kathyerb3134 My doctor checks T3, T4, TSH, Reverse T3, pituitary gland, and also B12, Vit D, and Iron. My hair falls out really bad when my TSH is low, like less than 0. It usually means my synthroid needs to be lowered. If my TSH is in the middle, I feel terrible, and have the symptoms you describe really bad, too. Normal is different for everyone. I feel the best when the TSH level is near the lower range. Like 1.00-2.00 Even then, I don't feel great. Yes, thank you, my niece was born with something, as well. Can't remember what the name of it right now. So far, my son is doing OK. I hope your doctor will work with you. You should not have all those symptoms if your TSH is normal. Thyroid is a controversial subject. I wish you guys got to more issues that I’ve seen both of you have different views on. One is TSH suppression. I have a TSH of .01 on heavily on t3 with little T4. But a free T4 of .8 and free t3 of 4.0 to 4.2 with no hypodermic symptoms or anything. Yet some still find the low TSH as a concern. I felt like the t3 added was what I needed for my joints and energy. I wish I could take the Tirosint for my T4 combo but Tirosint and Levo brands make me bloat.

The main takeaway is that everyone still needs iodine it's just that some people may be getting too much of it. My personal recommendation is to stick with daily iodine in the 150 to 300mcg dose range while ensuring that you have sufficient selenium to protect the thyroid gland.

Dr. Brownstein argues between 6 to 12 milligrams, not micrograms. I encourage you to look up his protocol, a lot of his recommendations are out in the open and free. They do require a lot of research for personalizing your best dosage to start with because there is a detox process to be aware of. It is highly advisable to start low and slow but with the goal to build up and raise your dose as your body can tolerate it.

Watch Amy Myers KZfaq video or read the book The Thyroid Connection. One root cause of Hashimoto is leaky gut. Avoid gluten and diary or better avoid grain and beans, take care of gut.

Normal T4 and T3 does not mean optimal. Optimal T3 is over 3.2. Normal simply mean a range majority of people nowadays have which is not health at all.

@@mnayak9348 I know what needs to be done, I research everything, have the book, "the thyroid connection " but my Dr won't listen to me. I'm in Canada. Dr thinks he knows everything. He doesn't.

@@wizardatmath my Dr won't do anything I ask him, he is stuck on, "I'm the doc, I know everything" he clearly doesn't. He refuses to even discuss my questions, etc. I have the book, "the thyroid connection". If I mention thyroid, or b12 deficiency again, he won't be my Dr anymore. In Canada we have a huge shortage of Dr's.

sorry...high tolerence logically would be from coast dwellers? Covid slammed my thyroid function and its coming back 3 months later. High intensety workouts and sunlight are really helping. NO whear, little diary no .milk in 35 yrs.

loved the idea iodine wont clear from the body with use of meds cause they remove the bodys need to use iodine to create endogenous T 3 etc. Brilliant!

Iodine still remains required for all humans and I still stand by my previous comments made in other videos. What Dr. C and I were discussing is that some people may be taking too much without realizing it. Hope this clarifies!

I’ve had my thyroid removed due to larger nodules impacting on swallowing. I think I’m not getting enough levothyroxine at 125 mg but the doctor says my levels are OK. IM 82yo. Could iodine be the problem?

Late but. Healthy thyroid makes t4 using iodine. Your medicine is T4. So nope by that logic. Med usually goes by weight and can be lower for the elderly. How’s your heart rate and blood pressure? Good indicator of thyroid med. Too much med heart races & BP can drop.
