Thyroid hormone synthesis is a complex process involving both intracellular and extracellular components. This 7 min, 43 s video utilizes custom-designed animations and ADA-compliant closed captioning to helps students gain knowledge of this challenging topic. The video was designed to help students visualize the steps in thyroid hormone synthesis, including: 1. Iodide trapping 2. Oxidation of iodide 3. Synthesis of thyroglobulin 4. Iodination of tyrosine 5. Conjugation of T1 and T2 6. Endocytosis and digestion of colloid 7. Secretion of thyroid hormones 8. Conversion of T4 to T3 at target tissues 9.Binding of T3 to nuclear receptors

Honestly you have the best video online for this! Thanks :) I only wish you would have gone into more detail about why the T3 and T4 need to be processed in the colloid space (as the reaction is very nasty and produces a lot of free radicals and need hydrogen peroxide which would wreak havoc on the cell). It would just help put the vid in perspective as why the rxn does not simply take place in the intracellular space and instead is done extracellularly. But really the vid is perfect thanks! Helped with my tutoring

very good video but oxidation of iodine occurs in the lumen as the thyroid peroxidase enzyme present on the apical membrane... iodine is carried to the lumen by the transporter ''pendrin''...then after peroxidase enzyme oxideses the iodine to hypoiodous acid or iodinium.....

Pendrin transporter transport iodide in to colloid where oxidation of iodide happens by thyroid peroxidase. And thyroid peroxidase also does iodination of thyroglobulin

Great video! However, the thyroid receptor binds to DNA in the absence of the hormone and leads to transcriptional repression. Once T3 is bound, it causes a conformational change and becomes active, thus, causing transcription to occur.

It can also bind as an heretodimere with the activated rxr-rezeptor to initiate transscription
