I have an Accurate Platinum Twin-Drag 130w, an Avet T-RX Quad-drag 130w and the Tiagra. The only best bits about the Tiagra, is the clicker loudness & the handle is a nice shape in the hand, but you must wear gloves for extreme cranking, or else the "Septon" rubber causes blisters. Also don't get any product like sunscreen or corrosion protection spray on the rubber, or it melts & peels off. Also, the parts & service back up is always best with Shimano, in most countries. However the drags are nowhere as powerful as the Accurate or especially an Avet T-RX Quad, but they can be considered extreme overkill unless using over 200lb braid for Bluefin, giant sharks & huge swords. The Avet & Tiagra cost about the same, but the Accurate Platinum is more expensive, but better built with a very handle lettered drag lever system. If money is no object, get the Accurate. If you don't want to spend that much but still want something special, as a one off reel for a recreational owners, or are big into landbased shark fishing, get the Avet T-RX with it's immense drag output and longer handle for cranking. If you want a no nonsense, reliable reel, or you are a professional fisherman, i'd get the Shimano. They're just not very "special" feeling or unique to own. A bit like a Honda motorcycle or outboard engine. Does everything you want in a very reliable fashion. Will never let you down, easy to service & get parts & back up for. Just a bit boring. Depends what you want. Or do what I did and got all three. I wouldn't bother with a Penn unless you live in the USA and love them for some reason. If you live in the USA you may as well get an Avet for the same price. Not if you live elsewhere as there is more parts and service back up for them. Accurate is usually a bit better on that regard, but depends on the exact country you live in. Shimano always dominated in that department. So if it's going to get used hard all the time, that may be a deciding factor. Yes Tiagras are great, but long in the tooth now. Been around since 1993 (with only a handle and a notched drag lever slide, being the only updates in their entire history (also the newer Septon handled 50A model, got a slightly darker gold colour anodizing than the earlier 50A's & all other Tiagras). So I expect there will be a Tiagra generation 2, at some stage in the not too distant future. Or maybe it will be a case of "if it ain't broke, why fix it". There just may be some modern tweaks they can make, like lightening them up with more modern lighter/stronger materials that exist now, or are now more affordable to incorporate into a mass produced reel. Just an honest, well experienced based, non bias opinion, on the three best 130w reels. Same goes for the smaller sizes too. Tight Lines & Kia ora from New Zealand.
