Oh the great Tiamat has arrived from the forgotten realms to wreak havoc. You never face Tiamat alone, she always has her possy at all times. This is what I call pimpin’ it. Is this our new signpost Dragon commander, has The Ur-Dragon been unseated? I don’t know, we’ll have to try it out and see.

@@vex_mtg I think Morophon would make alot of sense though, like in any tribal deck, but especially with such high cmc 5 color decks. Easy swap for Golos. You can tutor him with Tiamat and he will save you anything from 1-5 mana per cast, will also help to get the commander back after a wipe. And i would swap Dragonlord's Servant for Urza's Incubator. First two things came to my mind. Wanted to make a Tiamat deck for some time now, guess i will start with this and see where it goes :)

I really like how this deck is built. I run the ur dragon as my commander with Tiamat in the 99 but I’m definitely gonna take some queues from this list like really buffing up the amount of ramp in my deck since a lot of the time I get mana screwed with my current list.

The Ur-Dragon is a sweet commander. Yeah, you need a lot of ramp with big mana value commanders as other decks pop off really quick now-a-days.

I love tribal decks and I kinda lucked or unlucked into tiamat. I had a r/g dragon deck. So I just had to add the other 3 colors XD. Best thing I seen in my fun more causal games is no tiamat deck is ever the same.

I chose this dragon as the commander because I could kind of go Budget on the land base if I'm going to be running so many ramp spells I don't necessarily need all 10 shock lands and fetch lands like ur dragon builds require

A trick with Karrthus is to have 2 or 3 enchantments that make all the player’s creatures dragons, place one on your opponent, then cast Karrthus and take control of all your opponent’s creatures and since they all have haste, you’re gonna cripple them to an oblivion

I like this build. I have a Tiamat deck too, and under play testing, I get some "dead" turns because of slow mana production. I've trimmed the 3 drops down to 2 and refocused on ramp. Trimmed dragons from 25 to 21 as well. Thinking of trimming down further thanks to this vid. Maybe add more instants

If you're planning to run any powerful planeswalkers, it's absolutely worth running _Oath of Teferi_ to blink _Tiamat_ for a double search and double loyalty abilities per turn. _Morophon_ (searchable thanks to Changling status) on the field combined with _Jodah, Archmage Eternal_ gives you free dragons with free +1/+1 just for entering! Combine that with _Dragon Tempest_, _Scion of the Ur-Dragon_ to dump dragons like _Scourge of the Thrones_ and _Hellkite Charger_ for extra combat phases, and _Savage Ventmaw_ along in the mix to keep generating mana and recurring the phases! If you run a couple mana too short to recur the phase again, just use _Scion_ to dump _Teneb, The Harvester_ in your last attack and resummon some of your dragons to trigger more pingers like _Dragon Tempest_ and _Terror of the Peaks._ I'm barely scratching the surface of possibilities but _Tiamat_ can be horrifying if you pair it with the right dragons and enchantments!

Tiamat search only happens when you cast Tiamat so Oath or Blink effects won’t let you do searches.

@@silencia08 fair enough; forgot that portion. Either way, best bet from there is to just keep killing Tiamat with Terror of the Peaks damage, recast Tiamat over and over, then search and play all the dragons. Lol

@@ItWatchesWithoutEyes ya but remember you're already tutoring 5 cards best stick with a combo and win as fast as possible. probably the best 3 cards to get on your Tiamat cast would be 1. Terror of the Peaks 2. Bladewing the Risen 3. Changeling Berserker (shapeshift counts as dragons type). Then have Bladewing and Changeling Berserker infinite loop one another and kill your opponents with Terror of the Peaks ETB. ** also a alternative to Changeling Berserker would be "Moritte of the Frost" just have it come as a copy of Bladewing the Risen and have them Legend-rule and reanimate each other for infinite ETB and Death Triggers.

Indeed, Tiamat is just a cast trigger, but it can find you combos pieces for the instant kill.

wow!!! the deck is amazing... i started to build the deck and my commander i was thinking was ramos... to trigger his ability remove counters and give me 10 mana... what you think… and what about the others dragonlords, atarka, ojutai??

In the 99 of my Tiamat deck I went down to twelve dragons. The rest is filled with a human- legendary- multicolor subtheme. Piru is my secret Commander. Tutor him, play him, sac him, clear the way and gain massive life.

Yeah, Tiamat doesn't need a lot of dragons to function. It's always cool to see people build with secret commanders.

@@vex_mtg The deck definitely does what it is supposed to. It gets a bit repetitive, though. That's what you get from a tutor in the command zone.

I love your take on Tiamat. I'm still torn between The Ur-dragon or Tiamat for my 5 color dragon commander deck. the theme of the deck I'm planning is legendary dragons. AFR and Strixhaven recently gave us some strong legendary dragons.

@Shared Deck, I think if you want to stuff your deck with more dragons I would go with The Ur-Dragon since the discount he give is really nice.

I'd go Tiamat her ETB effect will get you all the value you need, Ur Dragon is often an instant target and hard to stick on the board and while the 1 mana cost reduction is nice, dragonlord's servant and Urza's Incubator do that job just fine. Tutor is one of the most powerful things you can do much less for the 5 best dragons in your whole library, and she also costs two less herself.

after a bunch of testing, I think Tiamat is a far better commander than the Ur-Dragon. Ur-Dragon us only 1 colorless reduction, which typically isn't the issue with 5-color dragons. Tiamat being able to tutor for your 5 most powerful dragons is a major benefit. To reduce having to discard, run Wizard Class/Reliquary Tower or utilize Morophon + Fist of Suns/Jodah Archmage Eternal so you can get those dragons out of your hand faster/easier. Minion of the mighty is relatively decent at dropping a dragon for free, though getting a Kaalia of the Vast is a better choice. Having something like Defense of the Heart is also a big help.

Great deck. I think that you should add morphon the boundless to the deck to make all of your dragons less. You can fetch it with the Tiamat trigger and if you get the ur dragon then it would only be 4 mana

@Tricko11, I actually had Morophon in the deck list but I decided to take it out because it just gives a mana discount and doesn't have another cool ability besides the pumping of the team. I'm ramping so hard in the deck I don't I need it.

@@vex_mtg I disagree, with that you can use that to summon a much larger amount of dragons with Morophon out. You will be drawing a lot of cards be able to summon him and Ur-Dragon right after on the same turn. He will also make scion free then with the saved mana you can use him to tutor more cards and recover them from your graveyard. Also you seem to be ramping wrong, you keep searching for multi color lands when cards specifically say "forest." This doesn't mean any card that produces green mana, it means the specific card named "forest," same with the search shock lands you are sacking. You need to have actual island and mountains in your deck, you can't just search for any color landed. Unless there was a recent ruling change that I can't find, that is the case. If there was a change to that please let me know, I can't find it.

@Joseph Coss, don't get me wrong Morophon is a great card, I just wanted to make room for other cards with neat abilities instead of just a mana discount and lord effect. As for the fetchlands, it doesn't say "basic" when fetching for a "Forest" therefore I can fetch any land that has a land type of "Forest", like a Stomping Ground (Land - Mountain Forest) or a triome.

@@vex_mtg I looked into the actual land cards you were tutoring for and when I saw the land types for the triomes I immediately knew I spoke too soon haha, but couldn’t find the post to add a reply. That’s a great tip didn’t realize those lands were so good. However without Morophon available for tutor your Tiamat deck will probably remain a step behind the others. Though you have a lot of cool and expensive cards that just may be the case. Who knows though maybe you’re right.

Have you thought about and changeling creatures with champion for infinite loop? You can use another dragon with a sac ability or just shoot the champion to kill it self. Terror or the peaks/bladewing/champion

Scion of draco only counts basic land types so the most you could reduce it by is 4

Scion is 2 less for every basic land type among lands you control. Basic land types are Plains, Island, Sawmp, Mountain and Forest. 5 types, 2 mana each for a total of 10 colorless reduction.

Iceman is correct. You only have a basic mountain and basic forest in your deck so would’ve had to pay 6 at the time you casted it instead of for free. The other lands you had on battlefield were not basics.

Wonderful take on my favorite tribe! Tiamat definitely offers up a different way of playing than just running The Ur-Daddy. I'd love to see what you think of Jeweled Lotus being in there, in the long run. My goal with Ur-Dragon is to abuse Hellkite-Courser as much as possible, because the commander tax will never increase. But having to 'cast' Tiamat is tricky.... Does Scion of Draco work with the Triomes because of the land types? Or does it actually have to be 'basic lands'?

@Lv5SuperTuba, I love dragons too, I remember when Shivan Dragon was the IT card back in the day, I've always wanted one. Hellkite Courser is definitely a sweet plan with your 9 mana value Ur-Dragon. This is the first casual deck I'm using Jeweled Lotus for. I believe it's really powerful in the deck, but more fair because Tiamat is 5 colors and if cast Tiamat early you'll have too many cards in hand and have to discard. Indeed Scion Of Draco works with Triomes and Shocklands, just basic land types, even from non-basic lands.

@Tank9er, Scion of Draco works with lands that have basic land types. A Triome has 3 basic land types and therefore can provide a 6 mana discount. It doesn't matter if the land types are attached to basic or non-basic lands.

should consider Fist of suns/Jodah archmage eternal + Morophon the boundless to make your dragons free to play. I've won so many games using that combo, even using Scion as Morophon for the turn, tutoring out Tiamat, filling my hand with Old Gnawbone, Karrthus, Ur-Dragon, Atarka, and Bladewing (to get Morophon back) and then just playing them all, drawing cards for attacking with all from Ur-Dragon, playing another permanent, and typically 20+ treasures from Old Gnawbone, all in one turn.

@TrueSpartan Gaming, that does seem like a sweet combo. I did consider Morophon but I didn't want to include it because I wanted pure Dragons for theme purposes.

@@vex_mtg for sure, if the theme is important, then stick to it. I have also used Vanquisher's Banner to great effect, especially after being boardwiped and I used Forever Young to take all my dead dragons and put them on top of my library in any order, draw Morophon off the top with Forever Young, then just replay every dragon since I keep drawing into them with the Banner, combo with dragon tempest and it's an easy win.

Yes it's good and then there is the dragons that have multi combat steps. You most of the time kill everyone when that happens.

I’m confused. It says “if you cast it”. Doesn’t that mean it has to come from your hand? Or would that be “if you cast it from your hand”?

@bruno vilelas, I had it in the original deck list, but didn't have room, I wanted to play more generic ramp for the rest of the deck. It's still a great card for the deck.

Lathlis is a 6cmc removal magnet.... She is not bad. But her ability is to slow in most cases. I know that argument could be said for any big dragon. BUT, if you put dragons that do something if they hit or do something on ETB. Then, even if they get removed. Atleast you got something from your cast. Lathlis oftens needs you to wait until tour next turn to profit which isn't very likely since she almost ALWAYS dies😢

I'm surprised as well that he didn't put oldgnaw bone and hellkite charger in you will effectively always kill a player that turn if not multiple on top of second main phase playing any dragons left over in your hand

I love a lot of your ideas but if you could take a couple more seconds instead of just like 3 seconds on some of the cards even though they're just ramp it'd be much appreciated, some people like myself arent aware of a lot of cards in existence and going back to pause on every card is kinda annoying especially when the blur cuts out the card text
