Tashi Delek!
Butter Lamp Festival is one of the important Tibetan religious festivals. It is held every year on October 25 of the Tibetan calendar. In the last year, it was the 10th day of December in the Gregorian calendar.
On that day, all Tibetans, no matter we are at the monastery or home, will light a butter lamp to memorize Master Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism.
Last year, I spent the day touring Ganden Monastery and participating in events with my Tibetan friends.
Here, I will show you two highlights of the Ganden Monastery Butter Lamp Festival. One is the display of the huge Thangka painting of Master Tsongkhapa, which has a history of 612 years. The other is the ritual of numerous butter lamps lighted up at night at Ganden Monastery.
Hope you will enjoy this video as much as I do.

It touches us to no end to see the Mother Monastery of Ganden ... our Root Lama, the 100th Ganden Tri Rinpoche's embalmed holy body, the "Mar-Dung", currently enshrined at the upper chambers of the main prayer hall of Drepung Loseling Monastery in-exile in India, would be brought back to Tibet, when conditions become favorable, in accordance to the holy wishes and advice of His Holiness. :):)

Dear Jamyang, thank you so much for your precious videos! We enjoy them very much. Could you kindly consider visit and showing us Riwoche monastery and Larung Gar? It was so good to watch your visit to Metok County in Pemako. Would it be possible if from Metok you could climb up to Rinchen Pong? From there if ever possible you could go through the forest to a sacred place called Taphag, and from there you could continue going to the sacred lake of Dorje Sempa, known as Kundu Dorsem Phodrang. It is a very very sacred place, it would be wonderful to make a video so everyone can connect to this sacred place. I have been enjoying your trips very much, accompanying your adventures getting your car in Chengdu, meeting Namkhe Nyingpo, the sacred lake of Guru Rinpoche etc., all the way back to Lhasa. I have visited Konpo and Pemako etc in the fifties, so I know these places and it is incredible to see the amazing changes. Thank you for what you do and wish you the best!

Ganden Monastery was once the largest Monastery in history! Lama Tsongkhapa's whole biography has been translated into English last year. Lama Tsongkhapa displayed impermanence 602 years ago, so if the Thangka is 612 years old that means Lama Tsongkhapa himself saw it!
