This exhibition displays the thangkas collected by the Tsinghua University Art Museum from the 17th to the 20th century, as well as the golden and bronze Buddha statues collected by the Capital Museum. The exhibition is divided into six units: "Thangka Drawing", "Patriarch and Guru", "Secret Buddha and Prajna Buddha", "Bodhisattva", "Female Sovereign" and "Dharma Protector" to help visitors understand the process, rituals, and experience of Thangka drawing. The beauty of thangka and statue art.
Buddhism was introduced to Tibet in the middle of the 7th century and merged with the native Bon religion and culture to form Tibetan Buddhism. "Thangka" is a Tibetan transliteration, referring to scroll paintings mounted on colored satin and hanging for worship. It is a unique painting art form in Tibetan culture. The Thangka uses exquisite materials, natural colors, complicated drawings, strict rules, beautiful frames, and a wide range of subjects. It can be called an "encyclopedia" of Tibetan religion and secular life.
The Thangka themes collected by the Tsinghua University Art Museum include the Great Wealth King Kong reflecting the theme of the deity, the auspicious Tianmu full of iconographic meanings, the Treasure Heaven King of the Dark Tang technique, and the Dragon Manjusri donated by Mr. Shen Congwen.
The Capital Museum has a collection of nearly 20,000 ancient gold and bronze statues. The statues on display not only reflect the characteristics of the development of Buddhism in Beijing, but also show the full picture of the evolution of Chinese and Tibetan Buddhist art.
