Hi Paul what a lovely video thank you for sharing and what serendipity. I have a similar knife to the one you shared in this video. I wanted to ask you if you will be willing to part with the same I would like to buy him from you in-order to have a companion to my current knife. The knife I am referring to is the one with 1997 on its blade it is the first knife you talk about. I cannot attach an image for my knife here but i would love to send you the image and incase you could share your email if with me i will surely share the image. the third one is not a dagger, it simply does not have the dimensions or the shape to be a small sized bladed weapon. its still a utility tool. 7:28, I have in my collection such ones as well. I can confirm that it is not a blood grove for blood to drain away, its more of a tradition to put that ding there. It originates from the days when the Tibetans used to split a yak bone from between and sharpen the two halves to turn them into knives, the part that formed the insides of the bone had that characteristic dent from the hollow part of the bone where the bone marrow would be. Hence, when Tibetans started to make knives from metal, they put that dent in there to replicate their bone knives from the past.

Thanks for your videos! Have you informations about how the kinves or phurba "work"? I mean, they are material objects that may affect spirit that have no body. How come? How come a knife keep at bay a spirit? Does an object emits its own sort of "vibration"/frequency that can be sensed by spirits?

the first knife you show with the date 1997 is not form nepal or tibetian.... its a newly made knife from the chinese hybrid ethno group called boanan or "bo'nan".. they are a muslim group of ethnically chinese metal workers originating probably .. based on genetics from around fujian.. with a percent of arab and persian male dna (10-25 percent) but little or no mongol or tibetian intermarriage .. probably due to religion. .. , their origins are from the mongol period, arab and persians the mongols brought to administer the chinese.. at some point they formed a knife and sword making ethnic group the mongols then settled them in metal working villages .. like a whole armory in one village... their profession was once only making knives, metal products ect.. the belt knives were traded with nomads and still are.. . they live only in two villages.. one in north west tibet around lake khokonor..and one it central western china. the pommel represents a peacock.. many items also there will be islamic inscriptions on the blades or a hand with raised finger declaring there is one god ect.. many boanan were aligned or controlled by chinese sunni muslim warlords in the interwar period. and supplied them with metal products and knives.. they also made homemade firearms and other items common at the time. they still make their knives in a traditional manner and sell good quantities to nomadic groups.. the quality is high, due to Chinese government oppression in the cultural revolution sword making is now unknown among them (they made swords or blades of swords to sell to nomads.. mongols, kazakhs ect) .. as oppose to tibet where sword makers are still numerous..

There is no 'f' sound in the Tibetan language 'phurba' is pronounced 'purba' the 'h' after the 'p' is aspirated. The phurba itself is not a knife but a peg to 'pin down'.
