I just got a non-displaced lateral impact fracture. No surgery needed, but boy, sitting around for 6 weeks is hard work!

4th of July I fell off a chair and was diagnosed with an impacted tibial plateau fracture. The surgery was the 5th and I am home with a walker. Laying with the leg elevated isn’t too bad, but sitting with it down is miserable. I can’t wait for this to heal, doc says 6 to 8 weeks.

I’m cleared for weight bearing and I can’t put weight on my leg 3 weeks after cast removal. Didn’t have surgery. I can’t get past 50%, this is so frightening

Was told a torn MCL or Meniscus from a ski accident, was on crutches for 10 days and knee brace.. felt better, was told I’d be fine walking around & hiking but still pain in my knee. 2.5 months later an MRI showed it was a nondisplaced fractured tibia plateau the entire time. Doctor is telling me to keep doing what I am doing and start PT. But it’s terribly painful & I can barely walk now. Man… what a bummer! This has been the longest injury ever

Thank you for taking the time in making this video! It is an injury people think is only a " broken leg" 😢. It's a long recovery and there are FB support groups surgical and non surgical to help understand the recovery.

I broke my TP in three places after running into a trip wire at a spook house around Halloween 2023. Thanks for helping me understand better. I was pretty doped up when everything was explained to me. I am non weight bearing for the next two months. Pt is going good twice a week. Hope start trying to walk in March 2024.

Geeat video. I’m 5 months post-surgery tibial fracture. Two plates and 11 screws. I was hit by a pick up truck while walking in a crosswalk. I don’t feel pain but do feel numbness and feel the plate on the side of my knee. I’m back to walking a few miles at the local park and back to working out at the gym. My surgeon is pleased with my progress. I went to physical therapy for 3 months and finished last week. When I was non weight bearing for two months, I admit I was worried if I’d ever walk again. My limping has really diminished as well. I’m feeling like myself again. Best wishes to everyone dealing with this type of injury.

I have lateral and medial fractures (and lateral maleol fracture), and the doctor who made the operation didnt explained me anything. Just sait that will put plates, do exercise and dont put weight on it... it's all what he said. So when i get all note about surdgery then i was studying by meself what kind of fractures i have and there was written dont put full weight for 4 months. So i went to other doctor to check how is healing and now after 2,5 months i am in rehabilitation. It's very hard when you dont know whats going on.

Hi Doctor,

Hello, Dr. Geier. Thank you very much for this video explaining not only the actual TP fracture but also some potential outcomes in the future. 2 weeks ago, I injured myself with TP fracture and grade 1 MCL sprain on my left knee from skiing. I was not doing anything crazy, but the visibility was bad from snowing (at Mammoth, CA) and in rather heavy wet snow, I hit a crud and got myself ejected out from both skis. As I heard the pop with an immediate pain, I thought I dislocated my knee first. A long story short, I have never injured myself from skiing this bad even with years of alpine ski racing background. Now, I'm hoping to recover correctly and looking forward to the next ski seasons. Meanwhile, I am still in pain and can only dream of skiing,,,,,

I sustained a tibial plateau fracture in September 2022 after falling from a Wheelie Bin . It was corrected in surgery and I couldn’t weight bare for 10 weeks . Nearly 18 months down the track my knee joint is fine , I have no pain in it but the stiffness and numbness in my leg drives me insane . I do my physio exercises , plus yoga every day and walk short distances . My walking is still quite unsteady and I feel quite unbalanced. This injury has changed my life

Hello @DrDavidGeier. Thank you for your great content. I'm 17 years removed from a tibial plateau fracture and have a plate and some screws holding everything together. My knee felt great up until about three years ago when I overdid it with running and other sports. I've tried PRP but that does not see to help me. I'm in my 40s and I exercise daily. What options, surgical or non, do I have at this point to get me back to pain free? My goal is to be able to play at least one competitive sport, Pickleball ideally, from here on out. Thank you!
