Ticking noise from Dodge Journey RT 2014 tapping noise

Does anyone know about it how to fix it how much it will cost to fix it and if it’s left unattended what serious damage it can to car ? Please provide your valuable advise.

I had the same problem with my 2014 journey RT. I got the noise to go away by using a product called sea foam motor treatment. Haven’t had a problem since it says you should drive it up to 100 miles but I drove maybe 400 to 500 basically into the noise stopped . It really worked for me. I think it is an awesome product.

Nope replace rocker arms or u will need sn engine soon

Ya solucionado por mi lado... ayer comente este mismo problema y desmonte alternador, se envio a cambio de rodamientos y polea... se acabo el sonido muy similar al que se escucha en el video... espero les sirva... saludos

I’m having that same sound problem in a 2017 dodge journey just got the suv from a used car dealer 3 months ago, specified that all their cars certified past inspections. Since the first week I had it I told them this problem 3 times to fix the problem and the car returned back with the same issue! At this point what should I do?

Get a proper diagnosis first since there can be several causes, possibly just a lifter tick or could be a bad rocker arm.

Sue them. They sold to you car with a broken engine. Repairing this can be expensive, as you need to also check camshaft. Not rocker arm.

ah yes the pentastar tick my 14 ram with the 3.6 with just a bit over 130,000 miles is in the shop getting new rollers lifter springs and luckily only one cam was damaged i caught it early the mechanic said he's seen the rollers fail at 80k and some as many as 220,000 miles just depends

Estimados..yo tengo una 2014 sin problemas y comenzó con ese mismo sonido... se agudizó y se fue a falla en modo de ahorro batería... saque el alternador y es un traqueteo ... el problema era ahí... lo saque y lo llevare a mantencion... publicaré que tal me va... saludos

This ticking noise is coming due to rockers are worn and because rockers are worn and they are hitting on the camshaft so both camshaft including rockers are required changing.its gonna cost around $2600 AUD from dealership.

Mine started last night at this point I'm not getting it fixed and I'm getting a new car..I bought this motor less than 2 years ago

@@jessicaeaves1985this noise happens when the oil isn't changed at proper intervals also make sure new oil is used, alot of cheap oil change places used recycled oil

@@pureblood5792 thank you! I use 5w 20 (i think) synthetic and for some reason since I got that motor in 2020 my oil evaporates and no one can tell me where it goes

@@jessicaeaves1985I'll tell you, my bear guess is you have a very common leak comong from oil cooler. The oil cooler sits between both banks and comes connected to thr filter housing. In other words the filter housing and oil cooler are one unit. Apparently the gaskets goes bad quickly and the ppastic filter housing can also crack due to poor construction. Try to inspect on top of your transmission and you might see some engine oil leak comihg from the cooler. Check your oil and coolant levels& reservoir regular because if the oil cooler os leaking it could also mean losing some coolant too because coolant flows through thr unit. There are several modified units sold online, made mostly out of metal instead of plastic.... it's a disgustingly common problem and For some reason Chrysler never cared to fix it/improve on it

@@chitwnyawdman thank you so much! My car has been sitting all of this time, for some reason I can't let it go...I will love to get it fixed within the year so that I can give it to my youngest son once he turns 16! It's still pretty inside and out I just can't let it go!

Just add lucas oil hopefully it will fix the problem .

It’s the air conditioner clutch if AC is on.

I have been having this same issue with my 2014 dodge journey for quite awhile. After a few discussions with my boyfriend and soaking a ton of other money into this car, we just cannot justify spending another 2k on it. its a shame, its been a good car for the past few years, just turning into a money pit. Any advice to put a "band aid" on her to keep her going for as long as I can?????

This should be fixed as soon as possible as it can damage further to engine.So better to get it fixed.

i wouldn't suggest traveling with an aggressive tick, the more miles, especially with your engine running for hours on end, could cause some expensive damage

Just had the same problem. Common in these 3.6 motors. Bad Cam that caused bad rockers. Just replaced my motor. I hate this car. Change those cams quick before it costs you a motor like mine. I kept driving it till I had a bank 1 misfire and my nightmare began

Mines started this almost a year ago I just use Lucas with every oil change it quietens slightly someone told me a lot of these have a lifter tick.

So need to take to the dealership and tell them rockers are worn out which hitting your camshaft it may damage further more so better to get them changed bit expensive
