I’m so excited by this and loving getting used to using it. I do all my filming on my phone so if I can use this as a backup for my trusty map and compass that will help me out no end! Great look at the watch! 🥰

I purchased the TicWatch Ultra 3 for the same purpose as you. I've also installed Outdooractive (pro version) and have downloaded the map where I live. I suspect I'm not the only user with this application combo that would appreciate getting an idea of how you use the Outdooractive app on the watch. Please consider a short video of how you use the app, download maps, etc. Much Appreciated - Isle Royal hike planed for August. Best Regards and thanks for posting the video.

You can kind of cheat with outdoor active, and stop the watch app from using location (so it doesn't use watch GPS) but use the watch to control the app on your phone and view the map and data. Saves a shed load of battery. I've got 2, 2.5 days of hiking out of my ticwatch S2 doing this, phone shoved in a hip belt. The "off route" notifications are quite useful in sh*the weather's too.

@@NoviceWildCamper through wearOS; apps, pick outdoor active, permissions, unselect GPS. You can also stop a lot of the tic apps it comes bloated with (I just use googlefit) in there, force stop and turn off I think the option is? Couple of them might relate to the fancy dual-screen I think your one has. I also mostly have the bit of map I'm hiking in on both watch and phone downloaded (saves it transferring to watch via Bluetooth but don't know how effective it is tbh) and the datasaver on my phone is setup so that everything apart from outdoor active (and metoffice, and mountain forecast viewer) can't use background data. That saves a ton of phone battery, just outdoor active pinging my wife breadcrumbs as to where I am every 10 minutes or I have a bit of data signal. Still carry a 20kmah pack though, because paranoia.

A really basic watch face helps battery too. I use a/d watch face with simple hh:mm digital time, battery % and sun up/set time widgets.

Can a topographic map be installed on the watch just like on a Garmin Fénix and used without a data connection? How long does the battery last if you are using the map and GPS? thank you

You can add Google maps onto the watch without data connection but I haven't found anything else. It will download OS maps but I couldn't get it to work. After using it for quite some time now I am finding that if using the GPS constantly you will only get around 48 hours out of it however I hadn't switched off the GPS during overnight stops which probably didn't help.

interesting to see the difference between this and my Ticwatch Pro 3 GPS. Not a huge difference really. Ive found that i can get 3 hours at best with OutdoorActive on so i just use it on my phone for longer walks/runs. Nice review though

Cheers Marc. I think this has a larger battery now, 4100mah. I've had it running 3 days with all notifications on but I reckon probably around 6-7 hours of constant outdooractive based on thr usage on this camp.

I use outdoor active. Works perfectly on this. I can't get os maps to work even though it shows as an app on the watch.

Brilliant video thanks 😎 I've ordered one it should be here tomorrow I've no idea how to work it I can't follow this type of stuff😂 As long as Google maps works I'll be happy I'm hoping you can put in an address and navigate

Cheers buddy. If you put the address in your phone and start directions and then open Google maps on the watch it works from there perfectly but as far as I can see you can't put the address in on the watch. Off road you can use outdoor active if you subscribe to it and download maps and routes to use via GPS 👍

As a person who does not live out of their phone - emails are on my computer, my diary is on the wall, my navigation system is a 25,000 map and compass - I do not think I'd have any use at all for this type of gadget. I go out walking and camping to get away from communicating with other people and being woken up 15 minutes early would really annoy me :)

Ah but that's where this is good. You can switch all those notifications off if you want. And some people need to be in contact for health reasons etc. A friend of mine is diabetic and thus can relay all his vital signs back to his wife to keep an eye on and know where he is if anything happens to him. Plus I don't want to be getting a map out in high winds and rain to see where I'm going. A quick glance and I know if I'm on course or not and a weather warning of an impending storm is always useful. Horses for courses at the end of the day. Won't be everyone's cup of tea. 👍

Great review but please don't export your video at 60p because it slows down KZfaq. 24p or 25p are more than enough unless you're playing a first person shooter.

Thanks mate. My default is 60fps as i often slow down footage and lower fps doesn't work as well.

@@NoviceWildCamper the safety part for one. We are n a security update from 2021, no further updates. They promised the upgrade for all models by end of 2022 and are ignoring the community asking questions about it. It'll never arrive it seems. If you are happy with 2year old security, 0 updates and none of the improvements that wearOS 3 brings, then by all means. For me, i'll never get a mobvoi product ever again. They got your money and give 0 support.

As per other comments, I bought this watch on the understanding that Mobvoi would roll out the Wear OS3 update by the end of 2022, we are now nearly 5 months into 2023 and still no update, when you ask Mobvoi you get either no response or 'we're working on it' that's not good enough for a supposed 'high end' watch and shows that Mobvoi do not respect their customers. At least keep us updated on the progress of or not of Wear OS3 not just hope those complaining will just get fed up and go away. Good watch but very very poor customer service and that's crucial.

Is there any major difference between the 2 and 3? Latest update I've seen is that it will be in Q3 this year.

@@NoviceWildCamper that's not really the point, when you buy a device and are told that it will be supported and receive major OS updates by the end of 2022 then that's what you expect, especially after spending £200+. Less and less developers will be supporting Wear OS2, the Strava app springs to mind. Also you are missing out on faster app loading times, better battery performance and not least security updates, so yes there are major differences. Remember you got your watch free so it wasn't a financial investment therefore you had no expectations, purchasers of the watch do and rightly so.

I was just asking what the major differences are. So for my watch lasts a minimum of three days which according to reviews is as good as the best out there. 🤷🏼‍♂️

@@NoviceWildCamper oddly mine only lasts about 2 days, same watch so that's strange, don't get me wrong it's not a bad watch I, as well as many others, am annoyed at Mobvoi's seeming lack of customer care and information around the OS3 update, great watch, poor after service

@@NoviceWildCamper poor sensors, not working sleep tracker, battery kinda crappy for a watch with a double tb screen, no support from Mobvoi that promised updates since 2021. My old Huawei GT2 was way better, I regret having sold it.

Mmh, will be good to see how this fairs long term. I think they've upgraded quite a bit including the battery on this model. I get three days out of it easily with everything switched on.
