Perhaps not. Chopin didn't compose it, Robert Schumann did, and Chopin did not care much for Schumann or his music. Chopin didn't really care much for Franz Liszt, who made this gorgeous piano arrangement of Schuman's most beautiful love song dedicated to Clara, with whom he was deeply in love and whom he later married. Chopin said of Liszt "I wish he'd leave other people's music alone." But it didn't stop Liszt from arranging many of Chopin's pieces! I think part of Chopin's problem was disgruntlement with life. He had been a child prodigy, but contracted TB. According to accounts of his life, he wanted to marry, but just about everyone knew he had TB and I'm sure this is why his lady friends avoided becoming involved. He must have been envious of Robert Schumann. As for Schumann, tragically, his life became blighted by very severe headaches, which drove him to attempt suicide, and he eventually signed himself into an asylum, where he ended is life. Franz Liszt, lived into his seventies, and left a huge legacy of wonderful piano arrangements, and lots of original compositions of his own, including piano concertos and orchestral works. I won't go into detail here, because this is all very well documented and you can read it for yourselves, but I can tell you that Liszt's works alone occupy over twenty pages of fine print. The lives of the composers were mostly well documented and give a marvellous insight into how society both rich and poor lived and behaved in those days.

Jallil In 1838 Chopin wintered with Sand and her two children on the island of Majorca. There he wrote pieces that included his celebrated Preludes, Op. 28, and the Nocturnes, Op. 37. Back in Paris they lived next door to each other, and spent the next eight summers in Nohant, her country home in central France, where Chopin composed some of his greatest music. Musical herself, Sand both advised Chopin and inspired him, though he never dedicated a composition to her. The relationship came to a bitter end in 1847 after Chopin sided with Sand’s daughter, Solange, in a quarrel. Devastated, Chopin felt his health quickly deteriorate. They saw each other for the last time 17 months before Chopin’s death-a chance encounter that Sand described in her autobiography: “I pressed his trembling and icy hand. I wished to speak to him, he slipped away.”

First off, this is a very famous piece and has been played by the likes of Rubinstein and countless other front-rank pianists. Since it is very familiar to more than the average classical listener, there is bound to be comparison to the established versions out there. Hers is a very solid academic version but there are variations in speed and attack that are noticeable when compared to the many other versions.

That might be the problem: Why be jealous in the first place? Why not instead be happy for her and look to her as a model for inspiration - instead of making it about yourself and your jealousy? I know one reason people may feel jealous from seeing something like this is because it makes your insecurities, flaws, and short-comings that much more transparent, and forces you to face them. However, the problem is with you - not her; and jealousy is a way of projecting that onto others in a negative way so you can feel better about yourself. As such, you should view her as a paradigm for inspiration and interpret her, not as a threat to you, but as an impetus for improvement and success. You can admire and support people without making it about jealousy and your insecurities.

yep, and the trick is the beauty you hear when tiffany moves from one note to another.. or plays one chord, one arpeggio maybe... if you see what I mean? that beauty can be listened for and felt and reproduced from the very very beginning.... with the very, very simplest tunes, sequences of notes, chords.. i.e it is not a case of practising, learning, for years and years and years before you can 'play' and 'understand'. No. It is a case of make a sound and enjoy it, then explore the making of more..

Do it...

People always get the timing on this wrong. Even the greats misinterpret this piece. This is my absolute favorite interpretation of my favorite classical piano piece. Technically flawless. So hard to play right and time right and not speed up or slow down or overly dress it up. This is subdued and brilliantly done. Watched this video of Tiffany’s dozens of times.

Wow...this piece just never gets old. I still play it for pleasure after every practice session. I've never heard of Tiffany Poon before I must say. I was watching an unrelated youtube video which had this piece playing in the background. It was probably as close to a perfect performance as I've heard so I tried to find the name of the performer with no luck. The uploader of the video didn't even remember where he got it, so I decided to do a search. The first piece at the top of the search results was WAY too fast. Couldn't understand how that survived the performer's "ear test". I saw that it was about 4 minutes long so I thought "why don't I try something closer to 5 minutes, at least I'll know the tempo won't be an issue." Tiffany's performance was my next attempt and I must say I think this might even be better than the one I was looking for initially. Perfect interpretation. My only criticism would be the appx. 5 seconds bringing us back to tonic, the 'coda' if you will, between 4:26 & 4:31. I don't know why she rushed that section, but maybe my ears are the problem. But enough of my nit-picking, I'm going to buy anything and everything I see from Ms Poon and hopefully upgrade some of my favorite performances. I'll be starting with Chopin Nocturne in Eb Major. :) Thanks again Tiffany, this is what God put you on the Earth for. Shant D

Niko Lagman Its not that old, it's from 2013, just because it was 4 years ago (even know its not recent) It doesn't mean it would be considered an old video.

Well she played that absolutely perfectly. Seems there are some people who have a problem with it being played by a woman and then there are others who don't like it because she is Asian. lol. Maybe they should have just never showed the video and just pasted a picture of an old gray haired man and say he did it then he would get compliment after compliment.

Uhhh what???!!!?!? Where did you get the idea that was happening?! Enjoy the song instead of saying we should not see her. Go be a sexist somewhere else we have to many that need to be shooed of the internet anyway.

It's about the music, and that's what people seem to forget. The beauty of the music is what we should enjoy, no matter who, or WHAT is playing it. Debates over music make me sad. Music is almost all a matter of opinion. My opinion, and apparently yours, was that this was a beautifully performed, beautiful piece. I would've enjoyed it just the same if it had been an alien playing it. (But maybe a bit more distracted...)

***** So you don't like it because you think she is ugly. So if that's your basis for liking something that's pretty funny if you like Chopin's original. Chopin is totally sexy, lol. Clearly you can't see the beauty (in) the woman also.

I must be the odd man out here...she played it beautifully, but I would have liked it to be a bit faster (even though that sabotages the mood of piece to an extent)

Federico Risicaris IMO tempo is nice here and within the indicated speed on the sheet, but it's of course something subjective and you got a manoeuvre margin in which you can play it a bit more slowly if wished.
