Have you ever had trouble Tig Welding a gap..? Well today I give myself the BIGGEST headache contending with the most absurd gap I could come up with... My apologies for the foul language in this one.... Spoiler alert...it did not go well....But I DID have a ton of fun, and I'm actually pretty happy that I pulled it off. So, I hope you can have a laugh with me, and don't take this one too seriously, as I said in the episode, I'm all about having fun and goofing around on this channel.
Check out my friend Max's KZfaq channel and show him some love!

As a fitter that is also my own welder i can tell you. When i tack something up with any gap what so ever its because the blue print was wrong. And i had to leave the gap to make sure the end result is the right size. I also enjoy the challenge of welding up a gap so it's fine.

Other than for the impurities coming out, it’s really fine for the gap, I’ve seen, and done worse. I’m wondering whether the impurities are just on the surface. If so, a little sanding and maybe only polishing will get rid of it. It won’t affect the weld quality.
@PacificArcTigWelding

I have had luck wire brushing a weld like that and then running back over it at about 40 Hz with just a little more filler to get some freeze lines back into it. Pedal pulsing can give slight freeze lines, but not really enough to make it look "good".

First off awesome job! That’s a sick challenge, I’ll have to try that myself. It would have been cool to see what the underpart of the weld looked like on each pass! Also, what if you were to pulse the large gap and use a thicker filler rod? Do you think your weave would have turned out nicer?
@PacificArcTigWelding

Hmmmmm maybe a bittttt...? It’s tough. The arc jumps everywhere due to not being directly aimed at a surface, maybe next time!

If you had to do this again, would you have a different approach on the larger gap? Also is there a better way to clean the bigger gap of contaminants? I don’t have access to anything for backpurge but I’m working with 10ga 3x1-1/2 aluminum tubing and those gaps can be tricky
