Paul Greenlee... Michael Steele here north of Milton Florida. I'm a career pipe welder from 1978-2004. Stopped for 15 years to build drag cars. I fell in love with pipe welding when I first started. Welded in a few fab shops, refineries, etc... Stainless, chrome, boiler tubes. Uphill roots , downhill pipe line. I loved it all. Going back on the road this year when I get these cars finished. I'm 62 so I hope my health hold up long enough to put a few more years in that pipe rack, or where ever they put me. Did you work on that Brown and Root Chevron job in Pascagoula, Ms? in 1982-83? Was a good job for me. Plenty of pipe.

@@Godeseternal1 Good to hear from you Michael, I live in Theodore Alabama, I have worked at Chevron for Brown & Root but I can't remember the dates. I worked several shut downs at Chevron during those years and it was a lot of pipe and good money for the day and time. When I was young and working out of town I thought I was rich the first time I brought home over $200 on my check. That was a long time ago. I'm 67 and will be 68 this coming April. I always wanted to work and weld on race cars, a lot to learn setting one up. I bet you had some beautiful welds going on. I covered a lot of territory during my 40 years of work. I truly enjoyed pipe welding just like you. Sounds like we have a lot in common it would be great to meet up and have some coffee sometime. Be safe on the road and I hope who ever you work for will treat you good. The last job I worked was as a Boilermaker in Marissa, Illinois for 17 or 18 months. They treated me great but I had asked that the Lord grant me favor with all the Hands that I worked with. Take care and let me know how the next job works out.

بالفعل يا أخ عبدالعزيز هذا شرح قمة في الوضوح والاحترافية ، صراحة انا كنت متهيب من لحام Tig ومخاطر الاشعة ، اما بعد هذا الدرس اصبح لدي قناعة انه لابد ان اتخطى Mig واتحول الى TIG لتعدد استخداماته وجمال نتائجه .

Thank you, this was very informative. I was a pipe welder in the Navy many years ago, but we didn’t learn this technique. We would have to use a consumable insert ring for the root pass, and them weld multiple overlapping beads to fill up the gap and for the cover bead. I heard about walking the cup technique after I got out of the service, but never saw it done. Great video!

Say what?? 🤣😂 dude you haven't been around much pipe welding if you haven't seen excellent quality Tig welds here in America. I've been welding since 2009. I'm not the best but I've produced and seen some great welds in my time. This guy in the video did great but he's welding in the most comfortable position and plus he's doing it on an automatic roll-out machine. I've produced and seen better welds while performing them or being done in awkward STATIONARY Positions out in the field or in pipe racks where everything around you is working AGAINST you to make a quality weld and to make it look great and uniform. Especially in the Southern part of the USA we have awesome welders
