Thanks, as always. RE: can't sleep, can't turn off the brain. Ha. Sounds much too familiar. Lovely work on the speedo mount. Usually when I have to make multiple identical parts I weld the corners of the parent stock, then rough profile them on the bandsaw leaving one corner attached. Then I can belt sand the parts together, then cut the last corner off and finish each part individually.

The "can't sleep, brain won't stop" problem ? Totally solved by "chanting". Yeah, I know, hippy dippy sh#t right ? But if it works.................... You have to learn how to do it properly though, otherwise you just end up learning to chant and think at the same time ! gotta empty that brain and concentrate on chanting.

As usual, another excellent video, thank you. I pick up at least two or three new techniques every episode. The “CAD” design section on the exhaust just spooled me up in regards to my little Yamaha 100cc twin! I was working on my GPz550 the other day, the rear wheel, brakes(caliper and rear master cylinder rebuild, EBC pads, stainless brake line, plus all the bric a brac that goes along with this stuff), and it occurred to me that I havent seen you pass this particular TTP on to your viewers. When it comes to using the stock hardware on a restoration or just a mild one, the wire wheel has always been the go to. About 6-7 years ago I tried a vibratory tumbler with some corncob and walnut shell media, that had some dry polishing compound mixed in too. I wish I could show some before and after pictures, totally mindblowing. I will toss pretty much anything metal in there now, spokes, spoke nipples, springs, nuts, bolts, spacers, etc etc etc. The results of a day or two of tumbling are just incredible. Theres a guy on Ebay that sells the media, the stuff is absolute magic. You may already be doing this, but if not, I highly recommend it. It takes a bit longer but the results are so much better than a wire wheel.
@paulbrodie
@paulbrodie 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Glen. I do not have a tumbler. I'm sure with the right tumbler and correct media you can get great results. I also never use a wire wheel. Something to consider; I just don't know where the tumbler would go in my crowded shop!

When you silver solder what alloy are you using? Also, I noticed you still use flux even though you have an in-line gas fluxer...is that the "belt and suspenders" approach?
@paulbrodie
@paulbrodie 2 жыл бұрын
I believe the silver solder is 45%. It takes a while for the inline fluxer to deposit a layer of flux, that's why the paste flux goes on first, and the inline fluxer adds to that layer. It really does work very well. Not a "belt and suspenders" approach.
