They mimic the pipevine swallowtail and are really hard to tell the difference when in flight. It is possible that you are seeing the pipevine swallowtail 😀

We don’t have butterflies as large as that in Britain but I always wanted to see a swallowtail because they were under the “migratory” section in this wildlife of Britain book I had when I was young. I wen tho Croatia a couple of years ago for a holiday and finally saw a swallowtail. It came from the corner of my vision and I DUCKED I thought some sort of Pterodactyl was blotting out the sun

One time when me and my older sister where like, 5-7, found a swallowtail caterpillar in our yard. Every day it would still be on the plant we had in our backyard, until we found a chrysalis where it usually was. We actually saw it as a butterfly the next day, letting it’s wings dry. We ended up naming it star :). It was beautiful.
