Chip did our son's car in 2006. on Overhaulin. It was and still is a masterpiece.! They arranged a theft of his 1969 Mustang convertible from his home with the help and knowledge of the local police department, his wife, brother mother and myself. The car design was taken from what my son had aways told me he wished he could do to his car...Chip nailed it. Our son still has the car and re-runs of the show and a Foose Special can be seen once in a while (Mustang Sting). Thanks Chip for making a dream come true. Your are a true gentleman and artist. The drama was worth it to see my son's reaction to seeing his car recovered and his dream come true. If you ever see thepisode you will know what. I mean. Many workers on Chip's team were volunteers who had the own cars on the show..

@@sungear Not all the cars were "pretended to be stolen" and they dropped the concept of the pranks in the later seasons. Why deadlines? I mean, how else would could they keep the prank running for? How many episodes a season did the network need them to make? That's a more nuanced question.

Seen Chip around Huntington Beach every once in a while. Never talked to him even though we probably have a lot in common...figured he would prefer not to be hit up by a fan boy while at DelTaco. To answer the question posed I can honestly say that I take comfort in the fact that my herd of unrestored original/ rust free/ issue free Mustangs are resting comfortably in another undisclosed state now. I could see my friends watching Overhaulin and thinking that turning to him to restomod one of them would help me out. Needless to say, as much respect as I have for Foose, if that happened I would have a total cow. Folks collect cars for different reasons...I actually enjoy the challenge of restoration and the patience it instills in me especially in this new world of instant bolt-on gratification.

I never met Chip. But I stood with my wife 25' from him for about 45 minutes while attending Corvettes at Carlisle. He came out of a tent to a podium where he met a large crowd with a warm greeting. In a 2 hour line up waiting to obtain his autograph was a boy with a homemade model of a car. He was about 10 years old. Everyone in the line got to take a photo with Chip and get his autograph. When it was the boys turn, Chip took the model into his hands and started asking the young man questions about it. The boy explained how he had made the model and why. While others got 30 seconds with Chip, the boy got 5 minutes. Chip wanted to know everything about the kid's car. He was truly engaged and encouraging to the young man and both their eye contact and expressions had us blown away. The sincerity and the time allotment he gave to this creative young and future auto designer was over the top. But was it? Of course. This is the man Chip Foose. A talent extraordinaire and a gentleman.

It was a fun show... but the part I really didnt like is the "mark" got their ride overhauled, while not having any say or input in the process. How would you like to have an old car, and a binder full of plans for that car and then POOF! "look! we did it for you, and we didnt ask about what you wanted to do!" Sure, it would be exciting to have the car done, but also disappointing to miss the whole transformation.

You can't compare a dream car that wins the Riddler award to an Overhaulin project done in a week. If I won the Powerball, Chip building a car for me is one of the first things I would do with the money. 56 T-Bird restomod that will be candy red, with a completely new chassis, IRS, pushrod suspension, Voodoo engine and 6 speed. Let Chip decide the body modifications.

Overhauling was good early on, but that Johny Depp episode shows the problem that killed it. Early on the impression was most, if not, all the early "marks" were every day people, who could use a hand finishing the car. Johny Depp is worth 10s, 100s of millions. He didn't need help
