Everybody knows about the chip shot that went in, but they forgot that he hit a God awful tee shot to put himself in that position in the first place. It was only an 8 iron and he must have missed where he was aiming by I’d say 30 yards.

It's funny to think that I watched the Tiger phenomenon unfold in real time. And now there's a generation too young to really appreciate just how brilliant, how dominant, how game changing he was. For a decade it was Tiger v everyone else. Either Tiger won or "someone else" won and it seemed about 50/50.

Wasn’t quite 50/50 for regular tournaments, but definitely was for majors. In fact, around the turn of the century, it was probably more like 75/25 in his favor.

Tiger Woods really was the Michael Jordan of golf. On the tour today we have golfers that make spectacular shots, but it’s only so often they are clutch when they need it the most. Tiger Woods was so electric to watch because he did it over and over again.

From the rough, up a huge hill, blind shot to the hole (can’t see the flag). He had to pick just the right club to get the ball high enough and far enough

My favorite golfer of all time. Saw him at cog hill cc outside Chicago during a practice round during the pga championship. Was awesome, got to take pictures and also walked the course with him. Hitting a couple or few balls on every hole, him, not me. Lol. So much golf that day by the best ever to play the game. I'll never forget it.

I mean, not really. When your ball is sitting up nicely in the rough, a flyer is all but guaranteed. All the pros know that. What's amazing is being able to get a 7 iron there even with a flyer.

I am a 20 handicap player. I watched this video before I played this 6th hole at Pebble Beach. I drove to the left side of the fairway. I then used 4 iron to hit neat to the green. A short chip to the green. Finally, two putts made a par on this hole. I did not play well that day. But being able to make a par on this hole is a memory that I will never forget 😊

I think it’s his second best shot. The hole out chip where the ball takes almost a 90 degree turn to get across the green then trickles into the hole is #1 for me. That shot was pure sorcery.

Total hindsight, but I wonder how/if Tiger’s career would have been different if Dimarco made that birdie putt on 18 that year. It would have been interesting to see how Tiger would have responded to losing on 18 with a bogey to an opponent’s birdie. Would it have focused him a bit more? Stopped him doing military drills? Would he have fallen apart? Who knows.

Tiger changed the game forever. Especially for juniors and the way they were taught. Aside from time on the course, many juniors put hours of time in the gym building strength and flexibility. My local club had to seriously consider lengthening the course as par 4's were being reached from the tee. I personally loved the technical approach he took to developing his swing.

That 2000 era Butch Harmon swing was the greatest in the history of golf. He won 9 times in 2000 and then 4 majors in a row with that swing but then foolishly decided to change it. I still can't believe he did that. Sometimes in the pursuit of perfection you don't realize that you're already as good as you can possibly get.

@@matt7iron It wasn’t the tree, because I could cleared the tree with the 7 iron. It was the distance, the wind, the uphill lie, the depth of the rough and the angle to the pin. It was all of it. And even though I’m a +2.7 handicap, I was 54 years old when I tried it and I don’t have it in me anymore to hit the ball that far. I could reach the green from that distance with a longer club from a fairway lie, but not from that spot, not from that rough, and certainly not with a 7-iron.

@@tntkop I started playing in 1985 and spent thousands on flea market golf clubs and putters, used Ebay drivers and shafts, hundreds of rounds of golf and thousands of dollars on buckets of range balls, and green fees, $6 bucks average on Buckets of balls 3 times a week for 38 years minimum, ok 6 x12 times a month =$84 a month X12 months =roughly $1,000 a yr on balls X 38 years= $38,000 dollars on range balls alone, and my handicap and game just improved drastically and now I'm shooting 78-83 on 5,900-6,250 yd courses, its OK for a bad back and 230-250 yd drives, Johnny Miller said years ago get that damm short game better and mines is now better and I'm saving more pars, this game called golf is an addictive monstrous summagunn but I'm gonna enjoy it as long as I can.

I was lucky enough to play Pebble once a couple of years ago. People don't understand how long that hole is and that 2nd shot is so far uphill. To hit a 7 iron on the green from there blows my mind. TV doesn't do 6, 7, 8, and 9 justice. They are unbelievably beautiful. I hope to get back there again 1 day.

This is the man that made Golf cool. He was nice looking, he had charisma, he was black and in those days black golfers were rare and the ones that were around didnt dominate. He is exactly what the sport needed and he alone changed everything about the game. People didnt want to like him, but like him they did, he ended up winning everyone over and the rest is history. He’s far far more than just The Goat…he was a game changer, he flipped the sport on its head. I think most young people don’t realize this.

@@Flowgolf I don’t know, I’m not sure that it’s possible to have another Tiger Woods. Whose to say that he will even like golf enough to compete a few years from now. What the world wants may be completely different than what Charlie wants. Whatever he does, I bet his Dad thinks it’s awesome.

@Frontninefridays I don't know. I think he still has the skills, but I don't think he can practice enought to be consistant enough to be able to do it when he needs to. If he catches lightning sure, he can probably win again on courses he knows well, but practicing less than like 20 hours a week I don't think it will happen!

As many of us do in sports fandom I always like to root for the underdog/against the juggernaut and during Tiger's run of utter dominance I usually rooted against him for that reason; looking back I wish I would've just sat back and appreciated the greatness more.
