I've been driving around with 5% on all of my vehicles for the last 20 years. I have had no issues seeing at night. It's hilarious how CA cops stop people for vehicle modifications but there are groups of people going around breaking into so many cars that people just leave them open so they don't have to replace windows all the time.

I had my windows tinted, went strait to the police department and asked them to check it to see if it was legal . The officer said “it’s legal ,mine is darker.” A week later I got a ticket for illegal tint.

I did see removable window tint. It was almost like you shaped it and put it on your windows. It could be dark. If an officer tells you to remove it. You can just pull it off and put it back on.

Nothing is allowed to be fixed to the front windows in California. Technically not even the stuff that is completely see through and only blocks UV rays, however; if you don’t get greedy and go super dark, and just go with maybe a 70% or 50% tint, most California Highway Patrol and city cops definitely won’t bother with you. Put 5% limo like you had, straight to jail. Or just a fix it ticket. lol Sorry T. I know the frustration. Just go with 70% ceramic, even your windshield and they won’t even notice it. It’ll look like a lot of the factory Mercedes glass, with a smidge of color.

Medical exemption works if you are allergic to sun exposure but it’s a the discretion of the cop if he wishes to honor it … in your case and most cases they will have the judge say if it’s ok or not

Illinois has a specific license plate for tinted windows which requires medical exemption. Which makes the car illegal to drive at night.
