Absolutely exactly what I was looking for, and maybe some help for others. I have a 2015 GLI which uses the same connectors and 3 wire system with these plugs. Surprisingly difficult to find info on repairs for my car like this. If anyone tells you that your trim line of your Jetta is the same across the board for parts, I have run into hard times trying to source the correct part or "kit" or whatnot for the GLI. The taillights are definitely have been my latest endeavor. Besides having different wiring altogether, I used your video to learn how to repin the correct harness kit to my GLI. I bought a $12 pin tool off Amazon (fit for the female end but too short for the female receiver) but never thought about grinding off material of a staple. Brilliant. saves me a trip to the autoparts store tomorrow.

Thanks for taking the time to post this. The most important part of the video - for me - was too dark to actually see...I won't belabor the lighting issues...but the narration gave me some sense of what you were up to. I have to do the same repair once the new connector arrives...I guess someone could make some side money making pigtails for VWs, since they are hard to find in the US and the problem is more rampant than I would have thought. And thanks for the well placed Caddyshack reference.

Thanks man. Was getting frustrated as my blind self was certain there was no pink lock. As for tools, I had miscellaneous pin pushers that did the trick.

Thanks for the video. I too am surprised that I couldn't just change the bulb but have to replace the whole connector and housing. I bought my 2015 Tiguan second hand with 30,000 km for about $20 grand. So far the computer/stereo/back-up camera has gone kaput, I just had an airbag error that stopped my steering commands and horn from functioning also, and now this. The airbag was warrantied luckily. The stereo unit/back-up camera/hands free thing is not covered and apparently is about $2000 to repair and not guaranteed to be any better. And now this, you say it's underbuilt for the current drawn. The connector is definitely corroded. Not very impressed with VW so far.

Very helpful but needs better camera work. Should've turn the corner around the film the sunlight so we could see better.

Is there a better view of the de-pinning? Couldn't see what happened after pushing the pin through the front
