About that argan oil tip; my Ex boyfriend was once on vacation in the Caribbean. He got said coconut oil is enough as sunblock. Well guess who had a 2nd degree burning that eve. I was like „how can you be so stupid? Like you are white…you can use coconut oil as a after treatment after a shower but not as a sunscreen.“ Seriously guys you have two options: cover up in the sun ( like they do in arabica countries) or use a sunscreen a real one. I live in Germany, we don’t have as much sun as in souther Europe, however I wear the whole year 50+ sunscreen. Even in winter when we have like 4 hours of daylight and it is foggy….🤦🏻‍♀️

one small aspect I'd like to add about life expectancy. The main reason the average life span was so low back in the day was due to high child mortality rates, which decreased the average by a lot, so scientifically speaking there were still people over 40, its just that the average is low.

“Skin care is not makeup.” Preach. It grit my teeth when stores have skin care products under “beauty.” It should be under “strength”, if that were a category, or “hygiene” or just plainly “skin care.” This markets skin care as “optional” or “luxurious” when it is a need or should be a serious consideration.
@beardiemom
@beardiemom Жыл бұрын
I don't think skin care is a necessity for everybody (aside from sunscreen. Everybody should use sunscreen). I have naturally unproblematic skin, just some texture and redness that annoy me, but no acne, eczema or other real skin issues and before I tried to weaponize my ADHD's hyperfocus to create a consistant day and night routine of skin and oral care, the only skin care product I used was sunscreen. Am I seeing results? Yes, absolutely, the texture has been reduced, the pores on my nose look smaller and the redness has gone down. But I wouldn't have a significantly worse quality of life if I was only using sunscreen.

This was so informative, and being from the Caribbean, I agree completely, that any type of oils or too much oils will make your skin burn.... Just sunscream it. And done. Like you said get a uva/uvb sunscream that protect against both rays and use it. Even if you have darker skin, it doesn't mean you can't get burn or skin cancer, can still get this even if you're black. Whatever skin colour and type you have, putting on sunscream will keep your skin protected and keep you looking youthful for longer.

I mean, if people really cared about the coral reefs, they would stop consuming so much and stopping throwing their fish and corals on the sea. Part of Brazilian coral reef is dying because people decided to start an aquarium and didn't do the research. After a few months, they realized that it's expensive and time consuming maintain an aquarium, so what's the solution they have? Throwing the animals in the ocean. But lion fish are not from here, so it kills every other fish/coral. There's a type of coral that's basically a plague, because it doesn't need sun light or some minerals, so, it's growing and killing the others. And on top of that, there's pollution, because, yeah, the government should be better, but you shouldn't throw you beer can at the water, darling -.-. So, yeah, the reefs are dying but sunscreen are the least responsible.

These are horrific. But I just have to point out an important caveat: the sun is not the same as the simulated sunlight via UV lamps used in a lab to determine the SPF of a sunscreen. So it is dangerous to say that the SPF determines how long you can stay in the sun safely. The UVB fluctuates during the day, so where it may take 10 minutes to burn in the morning, by midday you may burn in a couple of minutes. You may still burn with your SPF 50+ if you are out during peak UV times. In Australia they recommend using SPF 30-50+ applied properly (1/4 tsp for the face, 1/4 tsp for the neck and ears and 1 tsp for each limb) just for incidental sun exposure (driving, running errands), reapplied every 2 hrs because the "shield" may have been rubbed off/cracked. For activities in the sun or if you work in the sun, other sun protective measures should be used: hats, clothing, UPF clothing and staying out of the sun wherever possible during the peak UV times. You can also still get UV damage without burning.

I've never heard about sun damage being cumulative! (Time stamp 11:17-11:44) This is hugely important info. Sun damage doesn't just fade away when we can't see it. It accumulates and can be even more damaging over time. I'd love to learn more about this. Thank you for the education.

My grandpa died from carcinoma. He was 90+ when he died and suffered for 30+ years. He was diagnosed one year after retirement. Carcinoma is usually not strong enough to kill you, like the other cancers, but it would make you wish you were dead instead. I think an equivalent description of the pain would be the phrase 'burning in hell'. His first lesion came on the back of his left palm. It looked like a cystic acne bump, but dead. It was a dead bump. No puss, just black, and painless. Doctors said that it wasn't cancerous. But we knew that there was something wrong. Because the skin looked dead. It was black. And how can something that big not hurt. It wasn't something inside the skin like a cystic acne. It was just a dead bump sitting on the top of his skin.The removal went well. Then it came on the back of one of his ears. We realized that it was a part of our life now. Then it came on his collar bone region. Palms, neck and back of ears has the least skin. Even operating here is difficult. Please protect them at all times. The last time my grandpa underwent a surgery, they removed 16 lesions. Skin cancer is not a joke. We were prepared for a lot, but we weren't prepared to see someone we love in so much pain. When he was still lucid, he would complain why God is not killing him instead. People who are still joking about skin cancer, believe me, you are not prepared for it. No one is.

Wow, I’m so so sorry to hear that. I can’t imagine living with the constant anxiety of wondering where cancer could show up on my body next and if I would survive the next lesion… or being a family member and helplessly watching this happen because there was nothing you could do. I’m glad he’s no longer in pain, at the very least. RIP ❤️

I'm an aspiring herbalist, and it always makes me worried when I see people trying to create their own skincare without understanding how and why things work. I make lipbalm, am working on formulating deodorant and cleanser, body products, salves, etc. Sunscreen is something I do not feel comfortable touching yet. And don't forsee myself feeling comfortable with it for years to come. I am going to school to be an esthetician, and I'm currently trying to learn more about the chemistry of skin and the things we put on it. Thank you for sharing why sunscreen isn't safe to make at home without a true understanding of chemistry and skin.

As soon as i was hired by this brand, they made me do a lot of training and learning in order to be able to sell the most suitable products for costumers. However i gotta say i’ve learned so much by watching your videos that now i’m the best vendor of the shop. I share all your tips, suggestions and information with all my costumers and i see that by explaining all the ingredients and how they work, people trust me and they text me or come back to the store just to tell me they got amazing results. I also translated your “turn and learn” in the italian equivalent “GIRA E IMPARA”. Thank you! PROUD TO BE A SKINTELLIGENT

For highlight without or with makeup. I first use a broad spectrum spf all over the face (min. Spf 30) Wait like 10 or 20 minutes. (Add foundation optional) Use a small amount extra to the high parts of face before going in with your blush, bronzer, and/or contour ... finish off with a tiny amount of coconut oil on my brows and cheek bones and bam! Natural looking glowy summer face.

I use various tinted glowy spf's to highlight (for example, the Saie slip tint and Supergoop glow screen), but I do it over my main spf that I put everywhere. It ends providing even more protection in the high points of my face, which is great because those spots are more susceptible to burns.

I'm trying to teach my child to wear SPF and start using skincare as they're almost 14 and the only thing my abusive mother did right was getting me to use skincare back when I was 13 and I became interested in it and makeup and through that SPF as well. I just my child would listen to me on this and stop coming home with a literal bright red face. Oh it's not sunny, yes it still is sunny, and just as dangerous, if not more dangerous as you're thinking oh it's not sunny so no sun screen. Hopefully they'll learn soon!
