I’m a little perplexed at the start but I kind of get the hybrid mentality of the CTR/Artic crossover .. Me, myself and I would just want a straight Tikka Artic with no scope on it and just cycle a few different types of .308 ammo to see what produces the tightest groups at a reasonable distance . Love well made Iron sighted rifles ie Mauser and Lee Enfield

Question: looking at Tikka T3x Lite vs the T3x CTR, looking for a good all round hunting rifle and I want Tikka for sure. Which one is better? The "Lite" is lighter of course but I am digging the CTR as it seems to be a more rugged all round option.
@frufru0071
@frufru0071 2 жыл бұрын
@Matt Robinson: it’s been at least a year since you posted this. I sure wish I’d seen it when it was "new". Which model did you decide to get? I bought an "entry level" Tikka, the T3x Lite in .223, which I then had put in a Boyd’s At-One laminate stock. I only shoot at the Range, & always with a friend. This is because of a spinal cord injury I had many years ago, and I need help to hang gongs/targets, to load & change the magazines et cetera. I’m able to operate the bolt action and I’m able to ring the 8" gong 3 times out of 4 @ 200 metres. I guess I’m a "bench shooter"-I don’t hunt-I’m shooting at either a steel or a paper circle & because I like to ask for the least amount of help possible, I like as high capacity a magazine as I’m able to get here in British Columbia, Canada. That’s the biggest difference between the Lite & the CTR. My T3x Lite came with a 4 round magazine, but the T3x CTR-which I SHOULD have ordered-holds 10. You’re looking for a hunting rifle, & 4 rounds are likely more than you need for your purposes. The flush-fitting, 4-round mag is a LOT easier to carry around and is perfectly balanced to carry around all day. It weighs half of the CTR’s ~10 pounds, (depending upon how heavy your scope is). Finding a Tikka with iron sights isn’t part of the past-if you can afford to get the Tikka T3x Arctic. That’s what the Canadian Rangers use & their requirements are extreme. From -35°C🥶to +35°C🥵, the Colt C-19/Tikka T3X Arctic are in an eye-catching orange, black & grey laminate stock that I could look at all day long. Strange but true. For the fan of "tactical" looking/Military & Police-"black"-rifle, there’s the TAC A1 & its swing-shut butt. *So…what did you choose AND are you entirely happy with that? Or, do you think you’ll save your money for another rifle? I hear great things about the Sig Sauer 3000 (sniper) rifle…

@@frufru0071 Hey, thanks for the reply! I was really looking for a hunting rifle so I went with the Tikka T3x lite.. its really nice and as you stated no real need to have 10 rounds in a hunting rifle. The CTR is nice and tougher I think but the weight and extra capacity doesn't really fit the purpose so I'm happy with my choice.. love Tikka regardless of what they have tho!

Thanx John, the sling he uses for his Tikka is an old Swedish surplus sling. I bought one too as they are quite common here in Sweden where I live. However the extra wide sling swivels needed are near to impossible to find so I just went with a more modern sling.

On the C19 sights are my favorite part on the Arctic but... They seem to good to be true? If properly zeroed are they on target through all six aperture settings? Do you know what velocity the 180 partition is designed to match up with these sights? I know you don't have one personally but you probably know from the trials? I've been seriously thinking about the Tikka Arctic. Expensive but really cool if sights are actually on. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for sharing

I like the rifle for what it is too Brian, thought several times to buy an "Arctic". It's allot of money for a rifle that's only 60% identical to the Canuk rifle. The sight is pretty awesome, but I think they would have been better served to install a singer type rear sight like the old No4 had.

Hello from the US. That Tikka is an nice looking rifle but just not for me due to costs and I'm left handed. Because of that situation I prefer my left hand Ruger GSR rifle and my various leverguns. Another option thats not too bad for a lefty to operate by reaching overhand is the straight bolt style Mauser 98 variants. I have a few of them and they are more lefty friendly than turned down bolts and I like having an rifle with a history behind it.

Neatsfoot oil is a yellow oil rendered and purified from the shin bones and feet (but not the hooves) of cattle. "Neat" in the oil's name comes from an Old English word for cattle. Neatsfoot oil is used as a conditioning, softening and preservative agent for leather. In the 18th century, it was also used medicinally as a topical application for dry scaly skin conditions. "Prime neatsfoot oil" or "neatsfoot oil compound" are terms used for a blend of pure neatsfoot oil and non-animal oils, generally mineral or other petroleum-based oils.

Not the best choice for defense against bears IMO. Heavy, slow to reload, and has a fragile scope that adds more weight and is less than ideal for close range use. Prefer a lighter lever action with iron sights like the Henry All-Weather Lever Action Side Gate in .45-70 (7 lbs). I like that the Henry does not have a tang safety like the [blued steel] Winchester 1886 or a button safety like the Marlin 1895 Trapper.

My very similar choice would be the RUGER Scout with laminated stock. ->While the TIKKA T3x has a better trigger it should hav, at its exalted price of around US $2,800. (v.s. the RUGER Scout's $900.+) And I could easily afford and excellent Timney trigger for $130. and still be way ahead oof the game.. ->The Ruger action, rather than being forged is INVESTMENT CAST for a more uniform grain structure. At least as strong as the TiKKA action. ->Both rifles' barrels are cold hammer forged and both are equally accurate. I speak from experience with two RUGER 6.5 CM rifles.that gave 1/2 MOA accuracy with Hornady 140 gr. ELD-M (Match) cartridges. ->The RUGER has a Mauser type controlled feed extractor, theTIKKA does not. For dangerous game many prefer controlled feed. ->Both are capable of an action mounted Pic.rail. I'd put one on the RUGER as I'm not a fan of the"Scout" forward rail.

The Ruger’s mag negates the controlled round feed as the feed lips hold the cartridge until near the end of the loading stroke then as it pops out of the mag it can then be grabbed by the extractor not before. Ruger’s internal box mags don’t stop the controlled round feed from working as it should.
