Literally just paused the video to do a little sleuthing, these credentials are mentioned on numerous sites, several of which I mostly trust as far as veracity of info since I’m able to search/check for actual, reputable doctors I personally know. However, the verbiage in every single one of his bios seems self written and very casual, language wise, if that makes sense. He IS board certified and has publications (lots of cancer research) but at the same time I’m not sure I would trust his advice, if not misinformation than his delivery is….strange to me. But then, he’s a social media physician that seems a tad too too unserious in that regard imho, and seems to suffer from short man syndrome on top of the inflated egos some doctors have, so I remain cautious lol

Schools MAY verify degrees, but they do not HAVE to tell just any member of the public. Don’t bother the registrar, please, and register a complaint or query with the state licensing folks and/or the National Board if they are claiming to be board-certified. Note: board cert is optional, you can still be a specialist without it, but falsely claiming it is big trouble, and extra big if they’ve publicly lied about any credentials. Watch out for “attended” tho, it doesn’t mean matriculated or graduated. Anyone can go to Harvard’s lifelong learning branch, for example, and technically they’ve attended Harvard. Lots of scammers do this, it’s technically right & is legal.

Sometimes it's good to know things outside from what your doctor tells you - a lot of women with PCOS and related conditions will confirm, they got treatment only after they demended specific tests, because they already had an idea what's wrong, and they got the idea somewhere online. The rule is don't try to treat your condition based on online advice, consult your doctor. And if he doesn't listen find a new doctor. And never believe anything from tiktok. I am just curious. Why are newly graduate doctors like that to be so full of themselves? Are they rich? Or is it just pride? By hierarchy stand point, they aren't in the highest rank cuz they still new to the field. I could imagine doctors who worked for many years would be the ones full of themselves. In some ways that would make more sense. So it's very cringy to see doctors like Dr. Charles who just graduated be prideful and talk down to more experienced doctors. I thought new doctors would be more humble with their lack of experience and knowledge. And I thought being prideful as a new doc would hurt their reputation and credibility. Isn't this common sense to med students and newly grads? But I never been thru that field so I don't what med students go thru and think about.
@bearystarberry
@bearystarberry 2 ай бұрын
@@hedgiebing55 I think it is primarily based upon their background and their personality. I have met the sweetest doctors young and old and there are always the bad ones in both groups. I do believe some of my best experiences have been with IMG doctors so take that as you will. I think a few of the younger doctors treat their “Dr” title as a status symbol. They have every right to be proud of completing medical school and their postgraduate training (especially as some take 4+ years), but some take it to the extremes and come off as a POS. It would be interesting to see the exact pipeline tbh.

To supplement your point ,this guy studied evolutionary biology at Harvard for undergrad. I am not entirely sure how that remotely relates to modern medicine other than historical information, but maybe someone more educated about the field could let me know. With regards to med school, lots of med students will tell you that there are a group of students that will actual try to understand the science to become good physicians and there are a group of students that will just memorize what they need to know for the board exams. I think it's safe to say Dr. Charles falls in the latter group.
@eileen_a_b
@eileen_a_b 2 ай бұрын
@AnikaReza to be fair, your undergrad focus/degree doesn't matter as long as you have taken the necessary classes that are listed as a pre-requisit to get into the medical program. It's probably not useful in his medical degree and it probably was an easier undergrad degree compared to some others he could have chosen, but he surely took the science classes that were required. I absolutely agree that there are different types of med students and working doctors. He definitely comes across as the type who is in it for the money and recognition. He has no shame and it's gross.
@Anre23
@Anre23 2 ай бұрын
@eileen_a_b you are absolutely right about degree of study being relatively inconsequential to getting into medical school. But the reason I mention his undergraduate field is because he intentionally did not specify it in his profile. Even if you look at his dermatology clinic websites, his educational background is not listed there. People can easily be led to believe that he got his medical degree from Harvard (which I admitting thought at first). Of course, Duke is no school to scoff at either, but half truths about his background is a red flag. He is using his alma mater as a lure to convince people he is credible. (I definitely should have clarified my train of thought in my initial response 😅)

Maybe they are thinking about the older definition of a toner which was used quite some time ago to regulate your ph after using older harsher soaps. Maybe they are saying you don’t need a toner anymore because soaps aren’t those ph disrupters anymore. That’s my guess but of course I could be wrong.

I like Dr. Mike! He’s great at cutting to the chase and I love that he goes to colleagues in other specialties when it’s not his area of expertise. I was a manager at Ulta for 7 years. More than once, I had customers come into the store with a prestige brand beauty product (mostly fragrance but some eyeshadow palettes etc) because they wanted to see if we could help them determine if they were fake. I have seen some really good dupes. The best being Chanel fragrances which appeared to have been in the original bottle but the scent was definitely not right. I get it, these things are expensive; HOWEVER, if you are not buying it at regular retail price or from a reputable retailer then where do you think it’s coming from exactly? 🤔 it’s either fake or stolen merchandise!

Winnie Harlow spf lip gloss made my lips burn SO bad and I got a chemical type burn on my lips (red, bumpy, and very irritated and painful) maybe because there’s essential oils in them? (I think?) I asked for a refund and the suggested I tried their lip mask which they sent for free which was nice but that also burned like hell! And none of these things are listed as “lip plumping” but there were clear irritants in them. Like who wants a lip mask that burns your lips?! I agree that it would be ideal for her to be tagging her videos as ads, but I think legally she is in the clear because every video is her saying “I/we made _____”. It would be really hard to argue in court that a reasonable viewer wouldn’t know it’s her brand and that she financially benefits from the sales. From what I have seen myself and heard others say about the Tala CEO, the issue with her videos was that she wasn’t explicitly saying “I made ____” or “my product”, and that someone who wasn’t familiar could watch one of those videos and reasonably believe that it wasn’t her own company.

Using your "authority" over clients actually violates the oath that all in the health care system takes...at least here in Canada. That is to do no harm. We're taught that your position comes with a natural authority and you should never hold it over another. It can be construed as a type of abuse actually. We have a responsibility to be responsible, as truthful as we can professionally be, and to do what is in the best interest of your patients. Being on social media doesnt change that. In fact, one would think it only intensifies the responsibilities. I love that Dr. Mike posted at the end of his response video, a video on the things he said that was wrong (misinformation). It was refreshing. Also, watch Dr. Mikes video on the beauty influencer who contracted a flesh eating microbacterium from injectables that she found out was being ordered from Ali express 🤯

Because my lips get irritated by ALL chemical SPF balms, even if my facial skin is okay with the same sunscreen ingredients. I can use mineral SPF on my lips though (just bought the Supergoop one). I think we just gotta remember the skin on the lips is even thinner than even that on our face and may be even more easily sensitized. Not that I’m defending a prolapsing lip balm, but just curious if others have tried SPF lip balms before the Cay Skin.

I did think brand owners didn't need to declare ADs on their personal pages. That might be the interpretation of the American laws as I've heard them explained before. It is clearer to declare AD/sponsored so the audience knows there is a vested interest in the influencer selling a product. If the influencer says it's their brand in the post, is that enough? I can see how an influencer thinks its obviously their product but it's always gonna be someone's first contact with the influencer/brand.

DR MIKE SHOULD KNOW… That doesn’t mean that any random guy watching the video does. ONE very important thing that is taught in the medical industry is to BE SPECIFIC when giving directions, writing a script. Example: (Same one I was given by the professor) A lady goes back to the doctor for a rash that isn’t healing. The doctor asks if she was using “the jelly” he prescribed. The lady replies, I’ve been putting it on my toast twice a day for three days and IT’S NOT WORKING. The prescription directions were to use twice daily. Never assume that everyone understands logic. 🤷‍♀️
