Hi guys! It's been FIVE years since I first painted my laundry and bathroom tiles, so I figured it was time for an update. I've also answered some of the most frequently asked questions that come up in the comments of my previous videos.
I used Rust-Oleum in the laundry and White Knight in the bathroom (links below). I recommend you watch this video in conjunction with my other two tile paint videos, as I go into more depth about the process, to get a full picture of my experience.

I do recommend speaking to your local hardware or paint store about which product would be right for you before purchasing. Like I said in the video, I first painted these rooms five years ago, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the products and technologies have changed since then!

It’s very valuable to see a 5 year update! It’s nice you took time to do. I think it held up really well! I’m planning to paint small areas of outdoor terracotta tiles - outside window sills (??) and this gives me great indication that this project can be successful although the paint will be exposed to the elements but is it that much different from painting shower walls? - probably not 🙂

Great video and thank you. Very articulate and comprehensive without all the dribble about the rest of your day (like so many do). I'm 67yo and have just bought an immaculate 20 year old villa. It's all good quality. Nothing wrong with the bathroom but the light terra cotta floor tiles and pretty beige speckled wall tiles that I can't match linen to. I didn't consider painting because I was worried it would peel. You have made me feel confident enough to paint it all now. Thank you again and keep safe!

If you wanted to do a touch-up on the grout and small chips you could use as small container of touch-up paint with a small brush or a touch-up pen. The pens are more convenient but they tend to clog and quickly dry-up. An inexpensive small paint brush or a small, old, trimmed make-up brush is my preference. I have also utilized a small foam brush trimmed to the size of the grout lines I need to touch-up.

Excellent info, thank you! I was only seeing reviews of 6 months to 2 years, but I really had wondered how well it lasts beyond that. So glad to see this! I suppose you could dab white out or white nail polish into the chips to touch it up. Was your grout cleaned before you painted, or you just used that powder over the whole floor?
@TarynK

So glad you found the video helpful! I remember searching for review videos like this when I started, and found nothing, so it was a real gamble for me! The only thing I cleaned with was the powder that came supplied with the kit, I just followed the instructions provided. And now the more I think about it, I don't think the White Knight came with a cleaner, I think I used the cleaner that came with the Rust Oleum because I had plenty left over. Good luck with your project!!

@TarynK
@TarynK 3 жыл бұрын
So glad you found the video helpful! I appreciate your comment, thank you for your support of my chatter lol! In terms of cleaning, I use method products for day to day type cleaning, so they are reasonable gentle on the paint. I do still use a scourer when I clean the shower, but I find I don't have to scrub too hard at all because of the texture of the paint. It tended to be the grout that would need scrubbing (before I painted) and I don't find that to be the case anymore as the grout has been painted over and doesn't get scummy.

They have both lasted and worn the exact same after 5 years. I remember preferring the consistency of the White Knight as I was painting, but there wasn’t a lot of difference between them. Back when I was painting, the White Knight required a prep coat as well as the colour coat, whereas the Rustoleum only had the one coat, so that might make a difference to you if your short on time (although, they might have changed their formulas since I used them). Good luck with your project!!

@@judymiller5154 I have some experience in remodeling and IN MY OPINION, there's a reason why painting tiles is a new trend. I think painting over grout sounds like a nightmare when it comes to removing that paint one day. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, just not familiar with it and I don't think people understand that not every situation will turn out like this ladies. 5 years later, for the paint to last that long is pretty impressive, it must not be a very high traffic area. I am willing to bet if someone was to do this to a higher traffic area, the results may be dramatically different. That's if you use the right paint, that has a great finish because let's be honest...tile wasn't made to be painted on. I'm just saying how I feel about it, I'm sure some people had a lot of success but I don't think everyone will

I'm considering painting my country-blue-and-mauve very low use 3rd bathroom shower because its a 90's house with chicken wire and concrete behind the tile. @@judymiller5154 and I agree, for some this might be exactly the kinda thing their looking for but it's not going to be that way for everyone. Yes, but it also will last for years and years to come.

I have a time stamp in the description for where to skip to for an actual look at the tiles, if that suits you better than listening to the FAQs :) good luck with your project, hope it goes well!
