What a great way for one guy to raise a tower. Very smart setup.

+Bob Kerbs Thanks, Bob, building one just like for my KIO hex beam ham radio antenna.

Sure, I got the pulley with bronze bearing from Skycraft surplus in Orlando, I welded everything else. Just find a couple of pulley wheels (sheaves) a bolt to fit and weld a couple of pieces of angle iron together. I really like being able to lower it for service or adjustment.

Like your ideas very much. Can you tell me more about where you found the pulleys you used on both sides of the power pole near the top?

Best to have concrete base raised at least a few inches above ground to prevent puddling. Also the base plate area being almost flush is big trouble where debris is accumulated underneath holding moisture and increasing rusting rates. Stainless is rust resistant not rust proof. Good luck with the tower. Definitely make sure weeds and bushes don't take hold around the base because you might never see the failure coming rusting up rom the bottom. Hope you anchor bolts and nuts are stainless too.

AH6OY The base, the base anchors, the base bolts and nuts are all high grade SS, not one sign of rust since installation in February of 2013. Actually the base concrete is poured in a ring of steel about two inches above grade. I have 50' of Rohn 25g tower, a Yaesu G1000XA rotator for my new tilt up project to handle my KIO hexbeam ham radio antenna. ~ 73, K4EDE

Building another tilt over for my KIO hexbeam ham radio antenna. Purchased a tilt base galvanized from Normsfab.com, super quality tower parts at great prices.

great video very nice setup where did you purchase your pulleys you have on your pole I would like to do something like this with my tower
@BadUncleIke8 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Thompson Thanks Kevin, if you look close you will see that it is nothing more that two pieces of angle iron welded together, the "sheeve" what everyone calls a pulley is held in place with a SS bolt that fits the center hole. That's it! It has worked so well that I'm building another one for my ham radio hex beam antenna. Good luck! ~ Eric. K4EDE

Hello, I also like a lot of your ideas. I recently put up a 30 foot tower using ideas from about 4 you tube videos.I used your pulley ideas and would like to know where you got the bearings for the pole? I live in the Cincinnati Ohio area and put this up expecting to get more channels and got the same amount. Very disappointing but still working on that.

In case tower has a tilt of 3 degree in aperture where antenna is to be mounted, whether electrical beam tilt correction is advisable or mechanical tilt should be corrected? Even in mechanical correction whether tower should be vertically corrected or some interface solution for verticality of antenna mounting interface is advantageous solution?
@BadUncleIke8 жыл бұрын
+Duhan M. S. I think the tilt visible in the pictures is caused by the camera, the tower is near perfect vertical. Electrically 3 degrees probably would not be noticeable even if transmitting.

Great job! I love it when folks design and build their own projects. Everyone should learn how to be self sufficient. How did you do your grounding/lightning protection?
@BadUncleIke6 жыл бұрын
The hinges imbedded in the concrete base are bonded to the rebar and a central ground rod with #4 copper wire. From there 20' out to 4 ground rods forming a radial ground system.

I always used a thrust bearing and set my rotor up two feet from the ground. Why does everyone put them so high in the air?Just run mast pole down the center to a rotor mounted on a plate a couple of feet off the ground and if it messes up all you need is a bucket to sit on to work on it or replace it. It's a hassle to have to lower a 70 foot tower to do maintenance on a rotor.
@BadUncleIke8 жыл бұрын
+Bob Kerbs Well, you can certainly do it that way, you would need 50' of mast to reach the antenna which is a lot of pipe and weight. By mounting it at the top I kept it light, and easy to raise and lower. If if fails, I can always lower the tower.
