That kiss from Tim showed he’s clearly still in love with her. He’s just trying to protect her and right now he thinks leaving will.

She literally starts to comfort him immediately and shows her support and that she's not going anywhere and then he breaks up with her like wow dude You don't get to decide that for her

My favourite acting moments was when Tim said “you have to let me finish. This is very hard for me to say” and when Lucy’s hand raises in anger and frustration and you could see Tim’s hand holding hers 🥺 and when you can nearly see Lucy about to cry 😢 MASTERPIECE PERFORMANCE BY BOTH!!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 🤧

The look she gives him at 1:53 is something else. Feels so real - the hurt, the anger, the disappointment, everything mixed into one.

Tim needs to wake up and fix this ASAP. Tim and Lucy need to get back together. They are the only reason why I’m still watching this show.

I feel so bad for Tim. His past self and his past mistakes came back to bite him, and now he feels like he no longer deserves Lucy because he did horrible things in the past, lied to his current superiors, and endangered Lucy, Tamara and Lopez. He is closing his heart again because he doesn't want to be the cause of someone he cares about getting hurt, or do anything to ruin other people's lives. I hope that he will be able to get the help he needs to let go of his demons, get back to being the Tim that everyone knows he can be, and that he and Lucy will be able to get back together and reconcile after he loses sight of himself.

I've watched this particular scene at least a a dozen times and I cry each time. Eric Winter and Melissa O'Neil are the only reason I watch The Rookie and scenes like this are why. They always deliver.

Melissa and Eric carry this show on their shoulders. It’s not only that their characters are the most interesting in the show but it’s also their acting. Two of them are making their characters seem absolutely real. Brilliant acting! And a brilliant though painful scene.

Didn’t want to see this the first time. No one ordered a Chenford break up after waiting years for them to get together. Kudos to Eric and Melissa for the fantastic acting though.

I honestly never loved a show this much, the fact I actually cried at this scene shows how well made this show is & how beautifully made this scene was.. Although we are all pissed right now over this, the writers did a damn good job & I hope we get 10 more seasons 😊

Tim loves Lucy so much, but at this moment in his life, he doesn't love himself at all. This might be his lowest point, even worse than Isabel leaving. Lucy brought so much light and joy into his life, but her love can't heal everything. Tim hasn't let anyone, not even her, into the part of his life connected to his service in the army. And now, this darkness clouds the light that Lucy's love brings. Leaving her is his way of expressing love at this moment; he believes he's protecting her from himself because Tim is a fierce protector at heart. He's ashamed of who he is, doesn't recognize himself, and feels that Lucy deserves better while he doesn't deserve her love and support. Hopefully, therapy will help him confront his demons from the past. Though it's painful and still hasn't sunk in, it's true to who Tim is. I believe they'll be together again soon, stronger and happier than ever. Eric and Melissa completely blew me away with their acting in this scene; so genuine, raw, I felt like I was the one breaking up with someone and being broken up with at the same time. Chenford, in my opinion, is the strongest point of this series; their relationship is the heart of the show. They drew me in and kept me hooked, and I believe the showrunners and producers won't ruin them.

I’ve been rewatching The Rookie and seeing Lucy take L after L is heartbreaking. She goes through some of the worse situations out of any of the characters. Tim was the one person that she loved to be with and the fact she loss him is probably the worst she will feel…unless Tim dies. The L in Lucy is apparent.

I don't understand how did we get from season five to this situation only in 6 episodes. Lucy has been through a lot. She lost Jackson, her parents are crazy, she was kidnapped and now she failed the exam, almost killed sb by accident and lost her roommate and boyfriend. If I were Lucy, I don't know if I could ever forgive him that he just left her like that. I mean he always had these traumas. They knew that. Yes he didn't tell her the truth, but just to save her job. And she also did this with the five player trade. And now he's sacrificing himself, because he is not good enough for her? It's not true. He just needs therapy. Although I think he needed it from season 1. And his sacrifice will hurt Lucy more, especially because she will not have anyone to share this with. Even Angela and Nyla were so rude to her when she failed the exam. So this storyline for them is just shit. And I don't know how will they move on from here. There are only four episodes left, and there's a chance that there won't be a season 7, so I think I'll come back to the show, when they will come back together again, because the other characters are not my favourite. But the acting was great and well-performed, I'll never forget about it, that hand hold and their sad eyes... I wish I could.😢

Still trying to process it all. Incredible acting- Tim’s first “I’m sorry” and Lucy’s “why are you doing this?” are genuinely heartbreaking. Hoping and praying for a season 7 renewal because judging by the interviews with both Melissa and Eric; they won’t be back together by the end of season 6!! Let’s just hope that their storyline won’t end up in limbo if the series isn’t renewed 😬😬😢

I binge watched the 5 full first seasons in the 2 weeks right before S6E3. I discovered the show through a YT recommandation of a Chenford video. And just 3 weeks later, I got this scene. Definitely a roller coaster. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut, it's a TV drama, so of course there has to be trials and adventures along the path, that's what brings character development. As a writer myself, I know this all too well. Let see where this goes...

I feel so bad for Tim.. I mean his whole life was just trauma after trauma - abusive father, then military and war, watching other soldiers die, feeling responsible for it, and then the whole story with Isabel. And he never got any proper help from what we've seen in the show. I feel like it's just too much trauma for one person, so now I guess he's feeling like he doesn't deserve Lucy and walks away... It's just really sad..

No matter how painful and how much this episode sucks, because it does, Tim & Lucy have to go through this to be able to weather things long term. If they don’t, then more problems lurk further down the road. Tim has to heal & learn to love himself again, or maybe, quite possibly for the first time ever, before he can even think about healing and repairing what he’s done to Lucy. He takes a lot in, but doesn’t let a lot out. Tim shoulders everything alone, in order to protect those he loves the most, when in reality, he’s not alone at all. He has his found family that love and support him… and he needs to learn to lean into that. Leaning into your support system is not a sign of weakness. Tim broke things off with Lucy because he loves her more than he’s ever loved himself or anyone else. He doesn’t just love her, he’s IN love with her and that depth of feeling that he has for her is something he hasn’t experienced before and doesn’t yet understand. Lucy fell first but he fell harder, and it scares the shit out of him. Has Tim been in other relationships? Yes, but Isabel chose drugs, Rachel chose the job and Ashley chose herself but no one, until Lucy, ever chose him, and he has to protect that at all cost. He’s protecting Lucy by distancing himself until he can give himself to her completely, whole and in one piece. She deserves that. She’s worth the effort he’s going to put into himself and by extension, their relationship. Admitting to Lucy that he’s been lying to himself for a long time, is a huge step for him on his road to healing. At the end of the day, Tim and Lucy love each other but if that love is built on a crumbling foundation, then their love simply won’t last. I’ve seen where people have said that this new arc for Tim goes against all of his growth since season one. I firmly and vehemently disagree. Tim has taken the first step and acknowledged that he has some pretty wicked and quite frankly cruel skeletons in the closet that he hasn’t dealt with. By acknowledging that, he showing continued growth. Tim, with time, therapy and support will get through this a much better man. Those things won’t erase what he’s done but he can right his course and do the right things from here on out. Whether she’s willing to admit it or not, Lucy needs to heal herself as well. Her parents are down right awful to her… and those wounds run deep. I also don’t believe that’s she truly dealt with the Rosalind/Caleb situation and she really needs to. Hopefully, Tim and Lucy will each start their own journey to healing and find that they’re stronger both individually and as a couple. Additionally, Lucy broke up with Chris then immediately jumped into a relationship with Tim. She didn’t give herself time to process what she had just been through or why she was feeling the things she was feeling or more importantly not feeling about Chris. She now has the time she needs to process that. When Lucy and Tim find their way back to one another, (I think something big is going to happen to Lucy and Tim finally pull his head out) therapy and open communication will go a long way to repairing them both as individuals as well as their relationship. They’ll be stronger for it.

I genuinely trusted the writers that they won't use this " I am too damaged to be loved, so I am breaking up with you" trope. Extremely disappointed. I love that they wanted to portray an authentic relationship with all the ups and downs and struggles, but the break up could have been avoided. lWouldn't it be refreshing to see Tim going on a therapy while Lucy accepting his imperfections and traumas? They literally told us how many times times that Tim and Lucy want to deal with their issues and problems TOGETHER, but Tim just easily gives up on their relationship. This is contradiction as hell.
