Ever since I first watched this demo I knew I needed this cutter. I have four autoimmune illnesses that badly affect my hands. So after saving up, I finally bought this wonderful cutter. It makes a world of difference for my hands. Thank you so much for this fantastic tool. 😊 Much love from Canada. ❤

I got this thinking that I’d be using it primarily when scrapbooking and using 12x12 paper. Nope… I was wrong. I use if for everything! It’s amazing and has become my go to trimmer for everything I do.

So excited, I got mine today! I wanted to say thank you for the advice about cutting from the bottom of the guillotine. Can't believe that did not occur to me (feeling a little DUH)! Love the mini guillotine cutter.

I didn't think I needed another trimmer until I realised I needed this trimmer :D I love my small guillotine as I can cut at the bottom so when I saw that you could not only cut at the bottom, but there was a flip out measuring arm at the bottom too - boom. And the measurements on the right side will be great for cutting thin strips for backgrounds. Loved watching you cut through the magnet sheet :)

Tim, as someone who measures and cuts off the bottom ruler, I really wish this timmer had been designed with the tick marks for inches located along the TOP of the bottom ruler. This would have made it much easier to see where to line up your paper when cutting. Maybe if you could come out with a sticker that can go over the bottom ruler that is like that? I drew a line with a marker on the grid lines to see the inch lines better, but a change in the ruler would be nicer for someone like me. Would appreciate it. Sharon

Since this tool was designed with both Imperial and Metric measurements, it was important to consider all makers. The top edge has Inches closest to the edge, and the bottom has Metric closest to the edge.

My cutter arrived today and I love it! I cut some scrap pieces of medium weight chipboard and it left a very professional and clean edge. Looking forward to trying more types of papers like heavier glitter and thicker cardstock. It does a better job than my other brand of rotary cutter, which just stopped working.

But alas, it’s still not meant to be lol As has been the case for the upteen zillion years that I’ve followed you, you still rock! 🥰

I was so excited to pre-order my rotary trimmer because of all the exciting things you mention in this video. However, not sure if I got a lemon but no matter how hard I tried it is still giving me the fuzzy edges. Right off I read all instructions and your video. Watched so many other videos and comments trying to see what I am doing wrong. Purchased so I would not have to buy blades but have now purchased a blade. It is an expensive trimmer and if it works then I know I will get my moneys worth. So I am hoping it is a bad blade and that I did not get an entire lemon. Still a huge fan of your products.

I would love to be able to trim down my artwork with this trimmer. Some papers have a sandy coating so pastels adhere better. Will that dull/harm this rotary trimmer? I usually use a craft knife and ruler but I never get perfect right angles that way.
@timholtz
@timholtz Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure, but I would guess a sandy coated paper would not be ideal for the geared blade.

I cannot get mine to cut cleanly. I have tried different pressure and can get an almost good cut on the way down but most of the time it just rips the paper. I’m really disappointed as I have two other trimmers from tonic that are great - this one is going back 😢

Sorry to hear you’re having trouble with the Rotary Media Trimmer. For best results, here are some suggestions to follow when using the trimmer: - Most importantly this is not a standard Rotary trimmer where you press "down" on the blade, but instead your hand should be pressing on the outer (right) side of the blade carriage so the blade rotates "against" the metal edge to achieve a cut clean. - The surface you are cutting should be aligned to the top or bottom edge of the trimmer base. - Begin your cut in the opposite direction of the surface placement. * If the surface is against the top edge, you should be cutting from the bottom up. * If the surface is against the bottom edge, you should be cutting from the top down. - Be sure to press on the clear acrylic guard to stabilize your surface when cutting to keep it from moving. I hope these suggestions help.

how can i make cuts without the jagged edges? i am using 110lb cardstock and can't get a smooth clean cut at times.
@timholtz
@timholtz Жыл бұрын
A few things: Make sure you are cutting from the opposite direction your surface placement. If your surface is against the top edge, cut from the bottom up and vice versa. Be sure to hold down on the acrylic guard to keep your surface stable while cutting. Most importantly, the blade carriage should be pressed against the metal edge of the trimmer by holding down on the carriage as you cut. Hope this helps.

I’m having the same problem with jagged edges. I prefer cutting both directions to save time. To prevent getting the ragged edge I really have to apply a lot of pressure to the carrier when pulling down. I thought I had gotten a defective one. I’ll try your suggestions and keep working with it. One suggestion: It’s very hard to see the cutting/measurement lines. It would have been nice if those had been a different color. I do like the cutter. Nice clean cuts when I do it correctly.

I just received your trimmer. One of the screws holding the pressure guard was loose in the box. When I screwed it back on, the screw would not tighten. Are the screws supposed to be loose? Thank you!
@timholtz
@timholtz Жыл бұрын
The screws are spring loaded and should not be tightened to allow the acrylic guard to move up and down.

What about chipboard which is.057? I buy it in bulk because it’s excellent and economical. I have a rotary trimmer (Fiskars) which will cut it but the blade gets wrecked pretty quickly. Will your trimmer go as far as .057, which is a pretty standard size?

Hello, I just got mine and it seems that I have a problem ... I can't cut straight !!! I always have 2 millimeters diference between the top and the bottom ! Do you have a solution for me ? What do I do wrong ? Could it be the trimmer ? My cousin used to this type of material can't cut straight either 😢. Thank you in advance for your answer.. I'm so desapointed, I was dreaming of it. 🐾

What made Tonic put a “stopper” on the bottom of the smaller guillotine trimmers and not the 12.25 large one? Do you know of any DIY fix for the larger (more expensive) one??!! Love it except for that.
@timholtz
@timholtz 11 ай бұрын
Can you explain what you mean by "stopper"?
@karenspeten4496
@karenspeten4496 11 ай бұрын
Thank you for such a quick response. I mean the "resting edge", I believe that is what you called it in this video. I called it a "stopper" because it holds the paper in place when you cut. At about 15.25 in the video you talk about the smaller versions having the edge, but not the larger one. A DIY fix that works would be a great help to me in my crafting world. I would love this one, but right now can't justify the cost. I do love the guillotine, but to me the absence of the raised edge at the bottom is an engineering flaw. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
@timholtz
@timholtz 11 ай бұрын
Typically large guillotines do not have a bottom edge (I'm not sure of the reasoning behind this). The purpose of the initial 12.5" Guillotine design was a reduced platform size for portability. While there are no immediate plans to modify this trimmer to include a bottom edge, it's a great feature so I remain hopeful.
