I Know exactly what you mean. i was a college freshman in Univ Dayton in 1976-77 in a similar situation. I was scared crapless of stepping out into the world. March 1977 Fleetwood Mac put out 'Don't Stop'. I felt that they had written it to me. Over time I thought it was silly for to get so inspired by a silly song, but it got me through. Later I think Clinton, Bill used it and later other political events used it, so I was like, "I guess I'm not the only one who gets it."

Yeah hard to go back when you've seen it dozens of times and will see it dozens more before I die I'm sure. The shorty story by Stephen King from the book "Different Seasons" is good as well - Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption. I read it long before they made a movie. I've always said since the movie came out that it works so well as a movie because it was only a short story. The script writers didn't need to leave out major portions of the story because it wouldn't fit in a movie time frame.
@joanr6915
@joanr6915 4 жыл бұрын
@@rogerhickson7256 I've seen it more times than I care to remember, but I'm content with just watching the last hour, from when Andy comes out of solitary and talks to Red in the exercise yard. From then on, the acting is probably the best I've ever seen on screen. How this movie didn't win multiple Oscars, I don't know (well I do, it's all fixed). I haven't read the short story, but I will do one day. The other movie I'd like to see again for the first time is Local Hero. A quirky British movie with American/British cast. Absolute magic.

We need people TO KNOW THEY possess the power to change things...... This is a better quote. I don’t need a powerful person to look to themselves and decide what is moral and what is not. I need people to creat the change instead of depending on the hope that a powerful person will give us some slack. I don’t trust in most powerful people they have no vested interest in changing. Things are just too good for them. We need to have the solidarity and critical action to make change. We can do it.

princessc1986 - Or as another contributor said, we can't wait for those in power to change. Why should they? The present situation suits them; they are all doing well. We the people should be the agents of change. Note, do you think the founders intended it to be this way: no matter how much you desire to bring about change, once you get elected to public office you are part of what you were against before. So no real change can come about. Gads. Scary, isn't it?

Dear fellas, I can't believe how fast things move on the outside. I saw an automobile once when I was a kid, but now they're everywhere. The world went and got itself in a big damn hurry. The parole board got me into this halfway house called "The Brewer" and a job bagging groceries at the Foodway. It's hard work and I try to keep up, but my hands hurt most of the time. I don't think the store manager likes me very much. Sometimes after work, I go to the park and feed the birds. I keep thinking Jake might just show up and say hello, but he never does. I hope wherever he is, he's doin' okay and makin' new friends. I have trouble sleepin' at night. I have bad dreams like I'm falling. I wake up scared. Sometimes it takes me a while to remember where I am. Maybe I should get me a gun and rob the Foodway so they'd send me home. I could shoot the manager while I was at it, sort of like a bonus. I guess I'm too old for that sort of nonsense any more. I don't like it here. I'm tired of being afraid all the time. I've decided not to stay. I doubt they'll kick up any fuss. Not for an old crook like me. P.S: Tell Heywood I'm sorry I put a knife to his throat. No hard feelings. Brooks.

The Shawshank Redemption is by far my personal GOAT movie. So many memorable lines that never leave my soul. Tim & Morgan act beautifully together in it, as well as the 5-star supportive cast. Stephen, Stephen, Stephen, yes I'm a fan of LOtR as well, but do yourself a favor, & watch the dang thing! "Some birds aren't meant to be caged, their feathers are just too bright."

I will never forget that I was in Leicester Square in London and I was going to go and watch some action flick and it was sold out at Empire cinemas but it was sold out. I turn around and just 50 meters away there is a giant poster of a guy with his arms out in the rain. Shawshank Redemption. Didn't interest me at all but it was either that or go home. So I bought my ticket, my popcorn and sat down for one of the most wonderful moments of my life. That movie is my go to whenever I am down. Greatest movie I have ever seen.

But after watching it again for the first time in years, decided to keep it as one of my cherished collection. It's one of the few movies that makes me cry. I agree with SupermanHopkins, except the bad neighborhood lives in my subconscious mind. Either way, if he can do it, so can I. Can't wait for Dark Waters. What a cast!
