So sad that this could happen. Canada's pair "Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir" will always be the best in our eyes and hearts. They received a world record in their performance, which only lasted about 8 minutes when the Judges gave it too the Americans. Listen to the video and watch all the news. We are proud of Tessa and Scott.

Meryl and Charlie have been better all season. Scores tend to go up as the season progresses. Not sure why anyone is surprised. Maybe they should have held the ice dance competition in Canada, like last year's Worlds... oh, wait...

I'm not American nor Canadian and I could tell there was something fishy. I wasn't that familiar with neither of the couples and I could tell. Scott and Tessa should have gotten a higher score in the short program, and overall, win the gold.

No they should. The Americans were better, and had a more difficult short and free skate, with higher starting values.

Without even knowing how all the technical stuff works... Tessa and Scott's performance looked smooth and flowed perfectly. Their partnership is not comparable. Meryl and Charlie are great, I'll give them that. But their partnership just can't compare. It just didn't look quite as smooth.

This corruption is deeper than just ice dance judging. Look at the women's two person bobsled, run #1, first team to run, a Canadian pair, set a flawless run and had no wall touches. Second team to run, Americans, had a start that was only .002 seconds faster and they hit the wall over ten times. Yet for some unexplainable reason they were ahead of the Canadian team the entire run with a consistently increasing lead. The announcers and the Canadian team were completely befuddled as to how it could even happen. Apparently Americans are so great, the laws of physics don't even apply to them!!!

i dont know how u can fix bobsledding but i have no freaking clue watching that today how they had a faster time. canadians have to check there sled before the last two runs. i really want an explanation as much as u do though

When are Canadians going to learn that Americans don't care about Winter Olympics sports. Do you really think Americans care enough about the two person bobsled and ice dancing competitions to fix them. Freaking ICE DANCING ... I didn't even know ice dancing existed until 15 minutes ago.

@BearJew657
@BearJew657 10 жыл бұрын
ben opp I don't consider hockey a "Winter Olympic sport;" it is a normal sport that happens to be in the Winter Olympics. Unlike hockey, two person bobsled and ice dancing is not getting airtime in the US outside the Winter Olympics. Even if you classify hockey as a "Winter Olympic sport" the record to which you refer -- the highest viewership of a hockey game on a channel that launched two years ago -- says nothing about the popularity of hockey in the U.S. because it is comparing the ratings for U.S. vs. Russia to the ratings garnered by other hockey games (and not games in other sports). In any event ... We Americans (yes I am American) don't care about ice dancing. If I could take away the Ice Dancing gold medal away from whatever Americans won it and give it to the Canadians, I would do it. Why? Because it is ice dancing and nobody cares.

The ISU is corrupt. I've read some blogs about V & M and apparently when one specific US Judge is present, their scores are way down. Yet when he isn't present their scores were great. Now if that isn't something to work with then one has to wonder what the purpose is of the ISU. Its not the performers who are at fault, it is the judges.

Virtue/Moir (Canadians) have the better technique and ice dancing skills than the Americans. They crush the Americans in edgework, lines, posture and presentation. I'm neither Canadian nor American.
@nightswimmer99
@nightswimmer99 10 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Constant mistakes on twizzles (Tessa) do not equal superior presentation. And if they "crushed" the Americans, they would have won at least one matchup with them in this season or the last one, they would have been 4 time World Champions rather than trading that title back and forth for 4 years and they would have won at least ONE Grand Prix Final in their career.

Any event that is decided by judges should not be allowed, winter or summer games. Think hard, how many times in figure skating does the favorite going into the games NOT win ? The medals are decided long before the games start. The favorite can skate a flawed performance and still win. The whole competition is kinda pointless.

I'm not sure about Ice Dancing, but man, the figure skating Team event & Ladies event were both corrupted as fuck. It was so obvious that the scores were very well-cooked! In the team event, skaters from other countries were better than those skaters who represented Russia, but surprise, Russian team won. The ladies event though was the most obvious home-cooking one. The Korean lady was FAR BETTER than the mediocre Russian skater who got away with the gold. Think of Roger Federer being defeated-'robbed' by a junior-level tennis player. Jeeeez! I swear, the judging process of figure skating is disgusting and this "sport" needs to be faced out! No one should support figure skating nor give money nor attention to it.

You go Sid because I would have been in the same ballpark if I had been on your show. I was livid at the whole skating. Did you see the ice when Patrick skated. It was dirtier than an outdoor rink with all the chips and everyone fell in that event. No questions. 100% agree with you. Tessa and Scott were the winners all the way. It is obvious by having over 104000 hits that this is a sore spot with a number of people and that ice skating is important to many of us and is a sport far more than anyone thought.

I agree with everything except for the part saying that ice dancing is a disease. I am a figure skater and have been figure skating my entire life. I understand that edge work and lifts are hard to judge if there is no obvious deductions like falling or stumbling but you have no right to say that we should completely remove ice dancing just because of one corruption. Skaters work hard to become ice dancers and they deserve a chance in their sport.

What REALLY validates the fact that something is TERRIBLY wrong with the judging is what happened when both pairs skated OFF the ice .... Marina Zoueva (the Russian coach to both pairs) was ecstatic with Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir - their performance was truly perfection and their coach beamed with pride .... When Davis and White came off the ice, it was very obvious that only a cordial hug awaited them (at best it could be described an obligatory warm embrace) - it was SO obvious with whom Zoueva would have chosen for the gold but alas .... corruption permeates it's ugly claws in too many places.

Petri Kokko didn't invent the Finnstep by himself, he had help from this partner. The dance had to be re-arranged from a 2:30 original dance into a compulsory that can be repeated 3x in less than 2 minutes. All the couples had to in incorporate one less-than-a-minute section of the Finnstep into their short dances. The short is worth 33%, the Free Dance 66%. So what did the super expert Petri Kokko Tweet about the free dance: "Congratulations Davis & White for a gorgeous free and well deserved Olympic gold medal. Simply breathtaking! #Sochi2014″ Golly, even though he thought Davis &White were behind in his estimation in the short dance, once he saw the free dance, which he called "gorgeous" and "simply breathtaking" he concluded the gold medal was well deserved. The system now in use keeps the identities of the judges secret, and is preposterous for countless reasons. But hey, the winner of the Men's free skate fell twice, and guys who stood up made up no ground on him. Dane has tangible elements apart from jumps, so tangibility isn't the key to cleaning up the sport ... the key is tossing the ridiculous points system and recruiting unbiasd and honest judges.
