Here is Tim Storms singing the song "That lonesome road" with very low notes in a concert with Rescue quartet. Thanks for watching this clip and enjoy. XD.

How many folks here have heard Tim sing live? Because I have a couple of times. And he is an outstanding bass singer. Buy Rescue's live Reunion album and listen. Songs like this aren't made to show off his musicality, but to give the audience SOME idea of what his voice is capable of. There are tons of great basses out there (Nice Val, Tod Dunaway, etc), but until you hear them live (as opposed to a youtube video) don't try to criticize a person who has made a living out of singing. Tim's great.

@@DANGJOS his vocal chords are roughly twice the size of the average males, and he is much smaller in comparison than average. He has a very large set of chords with a high density which equates to much more mass. The more mass you vibrate, the lower the frequency produced. Given his very large vocal chords, and very small stature, it's astounding but very much possible.

What is vocal Fry?
@TheAdrift4 жыл бұрын
El Cazador it’s when your vocal folds get so short that the sound that comes out is like a sort of... idk, like a creaky door? It’s basically “valley girl voice” 😅 it’s kinda annoying, usually unintentional, and generally considered sloppy in speaking or singing, but that’s different from what this guy is doing. The motion is the same (shortening the vocal chords to produce that low note) but the level of control over the sound is way different. This wouldn’t be an issue if our vocal chords were as long as, like, bass strings or whatever, but they aren’t 😆

Vocal fry police. LOL. Couldn't be more wrong. What he does in this song is no where close to how low he can go. I've known Tim for 28 years and heard him sing standing right next to me, heard him on stage, and on CD thousands of times. He does not do fry regardless of how right you think you are, you are wrong. I guarantee it. I laugh when Tim and I are joking around and he sings something so ridiculously low. It doesn't sound human. LOL. Humans shouldn't be capable of producing such a low frequency. He's the real deal, very kind and humble, a great guy. The low stuff isn't melodic or pretty, but it is freakin awesome.

A vocal range is not measured by your absolute lowest frequency, but by your lowest and highest "proper" notes. Tim Storms may be able to reach absurd lows, but effectively, he's nothing but a nice basso cantante or a "bass-baritone". Might be somewhat due to compression, but those lows were miles off key.
@dreamypool777810 жыл бұрын
Nope, it's just that nobody can teach him how to reach the right note at such a low octave as he is the only ones capable of that. You should now that the lower the octave, the harder it is to accuractly hit the note as the difference between them become close to invisible. Especially when you sing them. That's basics afaik
@TheNinetySecond10 жыл бұрын
Well yeah, as far as frequency goes, it is harder, but the physical resonance makes it much easier - for me anyway - to pitch properly. Anyway, the higher frequencies of his notes (superfrequencies?/overtones?) are off key, and one could therefore argue that he isn't singing, but merely producing a sound.
@dreamypool777810 жыл бұрын
***** That's something you can't know as you never sang at this range nor is in his body. I agree that it is arguable however it would be irrelevant as only part of his notes are off (mostly overtones ye) proving that he cans hit those notes, just that he is not that accurate prolly due to his vocal chord condition.
@TheNinetySecond10 жыл бұрын
I'm not saying he can't hit those notes, but I don't think I would qualify it as singing, since it would never work in any form of harmony or melody, due to the immobility of his voice, and the clearly false overtones. It is impressively deep, but I'd still classify it as a production of a sound and not a sung note.
@dreamypool777810 жыл бұрын
***** ? the only reason it wouldn't work is due to how low it goes, octaves are very important in harmony and such a low voice will ruin anything even if it was hitting the right notes everytimes unless the rest would be as low and even so that's unlikely to be hearable. in therm of notes only it is perfectly fine, advanced singing technique tends to hit off key notes on purpose to create greater instabilities.

When he hits the really low notes, it sounds like it hurts. And you can tell it's straining his voice because there's no vibrato when he goes down really low. That means that the vocal chords are being stressed and tightened rather than allowed to vibrate naturally, which is in essence bad for your voice (especially if you do it too often).
