In Mick's first book he talks about this match. Basically Mil was too scared to take any real bumps, like that horrendous backbreaker and that pitiful landing when Cactus threw him out of the ring. Mick goes on to say that he told Ric Flair he wanted to have at least 1 kickout after the big dropkick and fall. Flairs response was "This night is not about you. No kickouts". So poor Mick had to suffer but thanks to Ross and Cornette he didn't come off looking that bad. Which apparently made Flair even madder and led him to tell Mick that just because those guys get him over, does not mean he's over. Wrestling was brutal back then.

0:52 Did you hear that? By that time already a Living Legend. What most of the people who came here because of Foley's Book doesn't know is that back then what we call "selling a move" nowdays was not very common in Lucha Libre. By that time, wrestlers in Mexico actually executed the moves and their opponents reacted naturally to them so when Mil Mascaras went to the U.S. he expected wrestlers to do the same. He said it before, "If a wrestler miss a move, I won't pretend like he hit me. I wouldn't expect someone else to sell a move I didn't do". It was just the way he learned.
@UserNameClassifed3 жыл бұрын
Like Ajmal said down below, you sell moves so you don't hurt yourself in the ring. Even if he was taught differently in Mexico, it's not an excuse. He wasn't wrestling in Mexico all the time, so when he's in the US, he should respect how wrestling is done here. The guy refused to because he had a huge ego and it was about him. He's basically Hulk Hogan in his country.

Yea i'll agree mick's backbreaker was botched, but such an obvious no sell is bullshit. The commenters are right who said that plenty of other wrestlers would have just beat his ass for that this. The announcers themselves were dumbfounded. the couldn't say how cheap a move it was on the air but it was obvious how they felt by what they DIDN'T say, and how they went out of there way to put Foley over after that. As for Mascaras "skill" look at the sequence starting at 2:00 and how they chump messed up his own move. Real skill.
@lynchie13710 жыл бұрын
He also no sold a punch by Foley when Foley backed him into the corner. Check out the sequence starting at 4:16 and ending at around the 4:22 mark. Dude just did not Mick to look good at all. And as for the no sell you mentioned, yes that was bullshit. Not only does it make Mick look like a fool but it makes the whole business look sketchy to see a guy leap to his feet like a shot after a supposed big power move by his opponent, then blindside him from behind. A prick move for sure and I think that it really did hurt Mick for real. He hit that concrete floor with a thud didn't he?
