this is definitely cool, but tbh SMD soldering is not incredibly difficult if you have the tools (as already stated) and practice/ fine motor coordination. and i'm not trying to brag, i am not even really that good at soldering. just needed to solder some SMD parts and went through the frustration of learning a new technique.

@Not That Guy @Not That Guy you could try with a hot air station, it is good for smd and it could work even if you have shaky hands (as i do), just remember to get some support on your elbow xd

This nicely shows the nature of the solder paste, you can pretty much see that the paste is lots of micro balls of solder in a flux base.

This is for preheat only! Hot air from above is still required. Damage of many components will happen if PCB's are heated only from below. This is too slow to fit the worst case component reflow profiles. Search for "Reflow profile, Reflow Zones, What is thermocouple"

Бляаааа, Мне бы такое лет 30-40 назад, когда я, как и очень многие в СССР, фанател на тему радиоэлектроники! Трдиционно собирались усилки, цветомузыки, приёмники, кой-какие измерительные приборы... Классное было время, творческое, интересное. Не то что сейчас - купи что душе угодно, своими руками только пиво ко рту подносишь!😄

Я тоже об этом часто думаю) Как-то попробовал недавно сделать плату лазерно-утюжным методом, получилось просто великолепно. Думаю, мне бы эти технологии в далёкие 90-е, когда дорожки рисовали лаком для ногтей, стыреным у мамы😁

@@Pavel93RUS уже ХЗ сколько лет ( явно больше 20), не занимаюсь изготовлением с нуля чего-либо. Но хлорное железо в запылившейся коричневой стеклянной банке где-то далеко запёхнутое под ванну, ещё стоит! Вспомнилось " но наш бронепоезд стоит на запасных путях!"...

I mean you can see the layout pretty clearly, it's some form of esp based board (probably could find the exact one if you search around the web a bit), a psu (probably for the esp control board since the iron is running on mains), and a solid state relay, all hooked up directly to a clothes iron. I had an almost identical setup (with a thermistor feedback sensor) hooked up to the hotplate from a salvaged coffee pot to make a dirt cheap hot plate for doing chemical experiments, added an old induction fan motor epoxies to a magnet underneath to even get stirring rods to work fine.

Most clothes irons, on the highest setting can get up to around 200 Celsius, low temperature solder pastes can melt around 150-200 Celsius. No modification needed if using a low temperature solder

I always love seeing all the little solder beads under the camera! Its a shame my lab only uses primarily wire solder, the paste is only used in our part placers to bake onto PBCs. :(

Даже если бы не было лужения, растеклось бы. Там флюс хороший у этих паст, а снизу металл. Все равно бы припаялось хорошо. Не надо уж тут токсичность проявлять.

solder paste, it is using a normal iron (for pressing clothes) and a temperature regulator (which is optional)

The components I see, are: Left white box is an SSR (solid state relay). Middle metal mesh is a power supply. Right electronics is probably some sort of PID controller, turning power on/off through the SSR to keep the right temperature. There is a POT switch on the electronics to probably adjust the temp, and the orange tape on the actual iron is probably holding down a thermal-resistor that's reading the temperature of the iron's surface. The code would probably be something simple, like "While ActualTemp is lower than DesiredTemp, Then Turn on SSR, Else Turn off SSR" That mass of metal from the Iron should keep Temps pretty constant. I like this setup.

It’s funny, when I worked at WSMR, we used to heat and cold soak new weapons systems. We found extreme cold to be far more damaging to most systems than extreme heat.
