This song was so huge when it came out as Justin Timberlake and Nelly both had worked with Timberland on their latest albums. Both of their albums had gone multi platinum, Timberland released this track and album, and it also went multi platinum. He had like easily 5 or more songs in the top 20 billboard charts at the same time, most in the top 10. Pretty hard to do for any one person but Timberland was on fire in the mid to late 2000s Oh! the "beef" surrounding this song is towards producer Scott Storch over writing credits on Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me A River".

Back in early 2000s timbaland was everywhere, I MEAN IT. He is a great producer, has worked with Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado obviously, but also One Republic, Keri Hilson, and even Madonna... Seriously the man was everywhere. But I want to talk about Nelly, she is very worth knowing, I'd sugest you start with her oldest hit Like a Bird and then skip to Promiscuous since is from this Timbaland era and blew up everywhere as well.

Timbaland was beefing with Scott Storch, another mega producer (He co-produced Cry Me A River) Justin Timberlake was beefin' with Prince They were dominating the charts, everyone wanted a piece.

There's a handful of beefs that were happening at the time that are all referenced in this song. One is that Scott Storch claimed Timbaland and Justin didn't give him enough credit on the track "Cry Me a River"; another is Prince calling out Justin publicly, saying, "For whoever is claiming they're bringing sexy back, sexy never left!"; and the third was Nelly Furtado and Fergie's super minor supposed "beef", where a line in one of Fergie's songs says, "I ain't promiscuous, I'm the realest chick up in this," which some people took as an attack against Nelly since her most famous song is called Promiscuous. Apparently, Fergie later told Nelly that the lyric wasn't directed at her, and Nelly apologized for some of the lines in this song that were retaliation. Then again, the celebrity scene, especially the rap/hip-hop/R&B scene, is filled with manufactured beef, so my take is that it's all more of a "reality" show for ratings approach than actual confrontation 90% of the time.

Interesting that Will.I.Am makes an appearance in this video (7:07), because Nelly is dissing Fergie in the song. 🤣. Will was obviously unaware. 🤣

Nelly Furtado is subtly calling out Fergie. Timbaland is ruthlessly taking down Scott Storch. JT is calling out Prince, Janet Jackson, and K-Fed. Nelly and Fergie's feud began due to a misunderstanding on Nelly's part. That feud began because Fergie said "I ain't promiscuous" in the Fergalicious song, which Nelly took as a shot at her "Promiscuous" song. Nelly later said that she was in the wrong to call out Fergie, but not before Fergie returned the favor by more harshly calling out Nelly in the Daddy Yankee and Fergie remix of Impacto. Scott Storch was a piano player that then became a producer under Timbaland's wing, then they began feuding. I forget why. lol JT calls out Prince for Prince's "Sexy never left" comment. JT calls out Janet Jackson for involving him in her Super Bowl "wardrobe malfunction" without his prior knowledge. JT calls out K-Fed because K-Fed was going around saying he would outsell JT on the charts.

One of my favorite diss tracks. And in the world of music, you will rarely ever ever hear a diss track on the radio. But Timbaland was such a genius he knew all you needed was to make the song radio friendly with a great beat, smooth vocals and a catchy chorus. Boom. The diss track was getting played literally everywhere worldwide. Most people dancing to this in the club didn't realize it was a diss track 😂

You should definitely do a reaction to Nelly Furtado's discography. She does so many styles and you will really see her transformation of her career through it. One of the neatest artists to come out of Canada in the 2000's that always stayed true to herself and had a vision on what SHE wanted to do. People said she sold out for Loose to sell more albums by sexualizing her image but the album is so Nelly Furtado and you can tell she had full creative control on the project. So why were we hating on a beautiful woman who wants to flaunt that a bit.
