We got all our timbers cut up in part 1 and now we raise the frame and build the rest of both porches. These were built all from rough cut green lumber. If you haven't yet be sure to watch part 1 where we cut the tree down and milled and cut the Douglas fir and eastern larch timbers. Thanks for watching. 😊

My camp was a 1 story built 3-4 foot off the ground with whole trees cut on large rocks above ground all made with ruff cut doug fur almost 60 years ago and it is still rot free except 1 outside joist that had water damage. I would have coated the bottoms of the post to keep the water from rotting the base of the post or at the least heavy caulked around the steel post and the wood edges.

It’s too easy to be negative when commenting on KZfaq, that said, when pegging a joint the hole in the tenon should be offset. Not in line, then when the peg is hammered home, it tightens the joint.

Looks great! Did you decide not to include knee braces for a certain reason? I thought they strengthened the timber frame?

There are charts for timber species on the internet. I went from past experience on this project then went 2" taller just in case.

Getting ready to do a porch here in New Mexico with similar spans did you let your timbers dry at all or worried about twisting ?
@bondobuilt386
@bondobuilt386 2 жыл бұрын
No I did not let them dry. pick a nice tree and it should not twist as it will be locked in with mortice and tendon and will cure slow outside. put timber oil on it too.
