For the last few weeks I have been getting the roof rafters up and getting some studs walls done. Due to a family emergency I am going to be away a little bit on and off for a while so I have recruited Sam to help speed the project along a bit while I am here. Thanks to Sam for his hard work.

Yes I can, there'd be a lot more dead people. Sometimes I bemoan "health and safety" requirements because they really are overkill sometimes, but overall they are a net positive to society. Despite that, his steeplejacking skills were amazing and his tenacity is somewhat amiss in modern society. But I still think you'd have brains of bologna to voluntarily do what he did, if there are other options to earn an income.
@KrisHarbour
@KrisHarbour Ай бұрын
My personal belief is that not all people are equal in health and safety. A lot of people dont have the balance, confidence in there footings and spacial awareness or an ability to predict how a material will react. fred was confident in his footing and hands at all times and he did a dangerous job for decades and never fell. A lot of people would have fallen. So as a society we need blanket rules because when you are dealing with a large group of people a lot of them will have their lives saved by having these rules. But some people can be safe while working in ways that would be deadly for others. I have worked at hight most of my life. I was an elevator engineer before I moved here to do what I do now. I have also done rock climbing for many years to quite a good level. (had to stop due to getting ligament issues in my elbows) but all those years of climbing and working with heavy stuff at hight has given me a good understanding of what I can and can't do safely. I know my limits very well and when I board out the roof and there won't be anything to grab on to and a big drop if I slip a harness will be getting used for sure.

@@cmmarttiI was a Health and Safety risk assessor for 30 years, everything from buildings, fire and the workplace. Believe me when I say I was amazed how some of the accidents I had to investigate, involving so called adults, I found it incredible that those people managed to get out of bed without killing themselves! We have Health and Safety because some idiot has caused an accident by being a total idiot, not only hurting or killing themselves, but because they've done it to someone else as well.

For the second year running I've avoided firewood into and out of the trailer. As I cut and split the logs I now put them on pallets which can dry in a paddock over summer and then come autumn it's easy to move the pallets over to the log shed. Instead of: split into trailer; out of trailer onto drying area, load into trailer to move, out of trailer to shed I now have: split logs, onto pallets, tractor move to drying area, tractor move to shed so handle them half as much.

Hi kris. Mr farmcraft101 built a simple solution to avoid handling logs twice. (From pile to trailer... trailer to store). He built a strong pallet frame with sides. Filed it at the pile and Lifted and transported it to the pile. Parked whole thing near where he wanted it. Kudos to him. You've got the tractor forks... dave

Been watching since before that was a weed covered patch of ground and what a difference you've made. I really find it a soothing thing seeing you work on first milling then the planing to the final placement of each board. The care you take making and "fixing" each piece is what I like. Can't say anything that has been already said by your followers but I can back all the good that they have mentioned and more. You are an institution!!! Rafters look great and after the stud walls you have built on the top level I'm wondering if you are still getting that wobble you were talking about earlier. If present will it go away when you build the bottom level stud walls? All in all I so enjoy your videos. I also like the way you talk us through with what you are doing with each project. Makes me feel as if I'm there taking notes along side of you. Your videos are on a level all their own. Keep up the good work.....A healthy ""GOOD ON YOU!!!"" Me southern AZ. (USA)
